silver or gold?
shine or matte?

here, silver Marni, gold Lanvin spring summer 2005

Louis Vuitton silver , John Galliano gold spring summer 05

A.F. Vandervorst silver
Viktor & Rolf gold spring summer 2005

Cacharel silver , Gucci gold spring summer 05

anna molinari silver and gold details s.s 05

sequins and shine is obviously related, i see the sequins topic as more 'specific' this shine topic is on a more general fashion mood, its not a discussion on sequins but on shine

i'd be interested in hearing opinions on those simple questions:
*silver or gold?
*shiny or matte?

for me its both, but mainly silver cause it goes better with my ss05 styles & colors
between shine and matte, i choose matte, find it easier to wear ;)

Both silver and gold, I think matte is nicer. A little bit of shimmer goes a long way. Love the pics you posted Lena, thanks! :flower:

I agree I think matte is much easier to wear, and also I just think it looks prettier...softer and not so flashy. I think it has a very 1920s/1930s inspired type of vibe...really nicely draped matte metallics always make me think of art deco.

i agree about the matte...in general i find metallic really garrish but i can handle very small amounts of matte (see the rusty gold metallic moccs i'm currently obsessed with... ). i like the cacharel silver coat that lena posted a lot! i will post some of my favorites soon.

thanks for the thread!

I don't have any shiny silver or gold but I have matte (satin) silver shoes -- do they count? I love the shines in satin.

what i have been wondering about lately, is what spurred this metallic trend? when did all these gorgeous metallic fabrics appear? some of them are so sumptuous and elegant and not at all 80's flashy, when metallics also had a "comeback". back then it was mostly lame, sequins or metallic threaded fabrics.

the new fabrics seem so much more rich, less tacky and so vibrant without being BLAM-ey.

personally, I prefer gold shiny, because silver makes me look deathly and matte gold is the same color as my skin more or less. matte silver is lovely in certain items a well though... when its more pewter than silver, like the dark grey has come to life. delicious.

ocean, this is actually the natural 'developement' of the kitch-y '80s kind of glam-shine revival that came out few seasons ago.
those 'gorgeous new metallics' are mainly new technology fabrics based on treatments and finishing developements.. its what makes shine 'modern' right now.
new 'shades' of silver and gold that range from the palest gold to the darker grey/silver make all the difference at the moment.

like Utopia said, there is a definite turn of the century/'20s feeling of
'beaten up' or 'worn out' shine, this is what one should be hunting for..

For winter 05.06 one can also detect a certain rise in copper metallic effects, supposedly this is the new 'shine' direction.. i can see copper and dark grey shine combining too well with the new 'darker' palette of fw05.06

here Anna Sui's copper for fw 05.06, still on the vintagy beaten up mood and a Dries van Noten copper-ish skirt

I believe this season is all about gold. :)

I'm glad it's back. I like gold.

@Lena: in Athens pinkgold is a trend isn't it?

Moda Junkie, all shine is fashionable here, mainly beaten gold/silver shoes & accessories really or gold 'foil' lettering details in fake Margiela style t-shirts (see your local Zara :innocent: )

i'm really enjoying it... i didn't even think of copper. mmm.

or bronze and brass. now we're talking.

I'm finding myself quite attracted to the matte copper...like that dries skirt lena posted. copper and bronze shades seem a little more unique, less 'done', than gold or silver. it seems like metallics have been continually revived, but always in the guise of gold and silver. I think the coppers and bronzes seem a bit more 'antique', which I prefer, and as lena said, capture that turn of the century/industrialised sort of mood. it's not quite so bling-y. though I will still hold true to what I said about a nice gold or silver matte being quite elegant and artistic if done right.

I prefare silver as it suits me better as i have greyey blue eyes. I think gold suits darker people. But i love metalics !!

reminds me of ages ago when my friend and i were in a stationary shop buying gel pens for school when a chav girl who was 17 if a day was looking at a metalic blue pen when she turned and asked her friend in a loud clear voice "what dpes metalic mean" my friend and i were rofl it was so funny

 that was hillarious

i also prefer silver.. mainly cause it goes well with all the sand, beige and moss greens i wear this summer , gold would have been too clashing with those colours..

and i cant wait to get my hands in something copper for fw05.06
ahhh September in Paris
