Trendspotting S/s 05

er...I find I don't really stick to trends, but here are my own must-haves...most of which I'm already doing.

- flats, particularly ballet shoes
- proportions and drape
- empire waists and drapey tops
- dancer-in-the-studio slouchiness
- full pleated or gathered skirts and petticoats, printed and otherwise
- victorian and mediaeval influences
- interesting hair: braiding, damzel type hair, victorian updos...
- colours such as grey, plum, lilac, pale pink, black, olive green and dark green

utopia that all sounds so gorgeous.

ot: where do u get your ballet flats from?

ot: oh they're just cheap ballet shoes I've picked up from various places, like topshop, old navy (back in america), sam & libby, thrift stores, etc. :flower:

ot: great - I have seen the topshop ones - my sister has a pair. pale pink.

pencil skirts? out
full skirts? coming in!

I think these are gonna be big for S05 and F05... but especially S05.... they have a doll like quality, goes along the lines of the current model trend of doll faces... (Gemma, Heather) And they are more flattering IMO..

Just Cavalli and Anna Molinari:

from Harper's Bazaar:

The How-to-Wear-It Guide to Spring Trends
By Jenny Rubinfeld Levine

HOW TO WEAR Full Skirts
Tiers, ruffles, poufs, pleats-volume is what makes spring's skirts so special. But beware: It also makes them a trick to wear.

We can breathe easy this season, literally, as there is a freedom associated with the spring's major pieces. Teetering in four-inch pointy-toe heels is not a prerequisite, as flats are in; pants aren't cut only for the wafer-thin few (baggy styles are big); and best yet, we don't have to squeeze ourselves into curve-hugging pencil skirts to look pulled together. Full, voluminous skirts-from cascading tiers to bubble hems-are the silhouette du jour. The shapes are looser and airier, but not less chic and refined. Nearly every designer embraced this new relaxed attitude: Alber Elbaz at Lanvin layered tulle and lace for a sweet but sophisticated fluffy confection; Roberto Cavalli piled on multicolored overlays for sexy gypsy-luxe miniskirts; and Behnaz Sarafpour cut hers with sleek inverted pleats for a grown-up version of a schoolgirl skirt. The bottom line is there are plenty of skirts to choose from. But you have to wear them right. Yes, a fuller skirt may feel good when you wear it (comfortable and forgiving), but looking good at the same time (not adding pounds or looking sloppy) takes some consideration.

What to keep in mind when going for a full skirt:
Balance the silhouette. "Spring is renewed with a new volume. It's about wearing a jacket with a skirt with motion, be it billowy or pleated," says Donna Karan, who showed dressed-up styles of the pouf skirt on her spring runway. The jacket is the perfect complement to a voluminous skirt, as it streamlines the look. Consider something trim, nipped at the waist or cropped and boxy. "Pair it with something close to the figure to accentuate the lines and sexiness of the body," says Burberry's Christopher Bailey.
There is a style to suit every need. "It all depends on how you translate it," says Ikram Goldman, owner of Ikram in Chicago. "The style can be worn with a T-shirt or a superfitted men's shirt and tie, as Alexander McQueen showed. Alber Elbaz has the skirts with these incredible beaded tops and fitted jackets."
Don't lose your waist. A full skirt has the potential to make you look, well, fuller. Wear a belt (Roberto Cavalli), tie a bow around your waist (Alberta Ferretti and Behnaz Sarafpour) or tuck in your shirt (Lanvin).

What a great and inspirational thread!

Here are my must haves for spring (all previously mentioned)

- Green (as usual)
- chunky necklaces (I love that this trend is back!!)
- Full skirts
- Culottes (I haven't seen much of these on the runway, but I still want a pair)
- Flats

:flower:

Mine are already mentioned too  :

-moroccan flats (I already have some :D )
-full skirts
-big bead necklaces
-drapey tunics
-big black sunglasses
-ivory cuff bracelets
-long ethnic-print skirts
-turquoise jewelry

big sunglasses

My hair is cut a la Alek Wek (the super short, super low) and I can't wait to do the big sunglasses for spring summer. :D I guess I could start now. :flower:

In 2005 and 2006 a new attitude to comport yourself and be more lady like will emerge as grooming makes a welcome return as the film star look 1950’s look continues and this coupled with films such as Aviator, and the about to be remade Brideshead Revisited will rekindle designer and consumer interest in the fashions of the 1920s and 1930s.

Decorum in dress is back - Trash dressing is dead- Ladylike is the mood of the moment. Chic and refined, polished and dignified, graceful and groomed is in. Revealing, scanty clothes and endless tawdry images of barely dressed celebrities are now tiresome to the point of boring. We've seen it all before. Gentler, less crude images are beckoning.

Manufacturers should have acted sooner and addressed the fact when designing for grown women that the majority have no desire to bare their belly button in public or show their top arms as the years advance

I like the necklace in that first picture ^ It has some nice details, as well as having a natural feel. I don't really wear big jewelry, but that piece is pretty cool.

I always try to avoid the 'instructions' and 'guides' in the mags and all. I always find that they mess up my train of thought when it comes to the latest pieces and how I'd wear them in my own way. I know it sounds silly considering I'm me and I should just wear what I want how I want to wear it, but does anyone understand?
