Trendspotting S/s 05

I always try to avoid the 'instructions' and 'guides' in the mags and all. I always find that they mess up my train of thought when it comes to the latest pieces and how I'd wear them in my own way. I know it sounds silly considering I'm me and I should just wear what I want how I want to wear it, but does anyone understand?

I couldn't agree more. And yes, I totally understand. There is no set recipe for style....we are not trying to bake a cake here...this is fashion....style....personality....self-expression....there are too many factors involved for "rules and regs" to be in the picture. TheSweetest...you are right on with that statement. :flower:

I love that accessories are hot right now. The Trend I see on the street right now is tight tappered jeans tucked into boots, some people do it right, some dont. I can see myself getting bored with that trend already.
Flats
Big Acessories, necklaces and or ethnic bracelets
Is the shrunken jacket ever going to go out of style?
Is the trend of the aviator glasses done with or are people still wearing those to death?

Spring Summer 2005 Trends?

Does anybody know whats "In" for 2005? Not necessarily Designer, but what colours and style. Include Designer if you want its just when i was shopping today I didnt have a clue what i should or shouldnt get. Homme or Femme Fashions will be fine since my friend needs some help to... Thanks :king:

Colors- Green ( the bright green), Yellow ( paired with colors like tan NOT BLACK)
Flats of course
Bermuda shorts
Wedge shoes with prints
I think there is already a thread about these in the trendspotting section..they have more insight

White shirt is the thing that i am gone wear all summer. I Have bought a white Filippa K shirt with two white cotton stripes on it. I will wear it to Acne jeans with white ProKeds shoes.(But i would rather have the Dior Homme white shoes) Have some realy nice clean black shorts that i will wear to. I will not putt on a v necked t-shirt this summer. Deap round necked t-shirt is preferd instead.
The preppy look (Tommy Hillfiger) with chinos is something that a lot of people is gone wear this summer. I dont like the chinos but go with it if you like it. :)
The mag Esquire UK is a big fan of the preppy look.

I think following trends is completely ridiculous. Use your own good taste and wear what you want to wear, don't follow.

Of course every one should dress the way that they want. But knowing what's hot in the runway is a way to get influence and not bad as your comment almost says. :)

I understand your point, however, that's what my comment does say.

I still stick with what I said though. Follow your tastes, not what celebrities with lots of gold and no class tell you to wear!

Well I personally am happy JR1 that you try to stay up on whats going on. Im sure that the people that say dont follow trends arent wearing the same thing they wore 14 years ago. Dont let people make you feel bad for wanting to know whats "in". Besides its not like your gonna run out and buy everything on the list anyways, its just to get a general idea. Of course you make your own style, just because the celebs have on something we think is cute doesnt mean break your budget for it but you can still know whats hot...Do you JR1, I dont want you to look like an outdated pumpkin because people hate trends

Those who don't follow trends:

Ann Demeulemeester
Yohji Yamamoto
Raf Simons
Carol Christian Poell
Riccardo Tisci
Rick Owens
Maurizio Altieri
Alexandre Plokhov

This list goes on...those are just a few off the top of my head that I'm really sure don't follow trends.

Basically, if you follow trends, you have no good taste because you're only copying people to be accepted. Show you have good class and are in tune with aesthetics by creating your own style, have your own aesthetics.

What happens when it becomes "trendy" to not be a trend follower??

I'm feeling vaclempsed - discuss...

Anyhow - Arturo21: I can appreciate your point of view, however I think it is a sweeping generalization to say that if you follow trends you have no good taste. Not everyone wearing a trendy piece is necessarily following a trend. They all started somewhere right? I also do not believe it demeans anyone's class..I think taste may have been the word you were looking for... anyhow, no big deal.

That's a bit harsh... You can use trends as inpiration, of course not to follow them religiously. And by refusing to follow any trends aren't you restraining yourself from creating your own style, wearing whatever you want is your own style, there is no one correct style- should everybody dress in Ann Demeulemeester and Riccardo Tisci? Isn't clothing an extension of your personality and character? And aren't you following a trend as well by saying that only "underground" designers such as the ones you mentioned reflect "true style"?

I have been seeing alot of the sandals that are leather, but braided, either flat, or that tie all around the ankles. lots of lace/doile looking bolero jackets, not so tight though. I have seen so many in cream color.
