Shop Design & Displays

Julia Chesky/Modelizing

I didnt' knew this great thread existed

Has anyone seen Modelizing  ?

Is a blog about all the NY window displays.

I came in here just to make sure someone gave the scoop on Julia Chesky's blog/Modelizing!!! She's a great friend of mine and a brilliant photographer. Her site is updated very regularly with the best displays in NY and her passion for window displays is bar none. I will have to get her over to this thread.

Here are my recent faves from her blog - Bergdorf Goodman's Holiday
09/10 Alice in Wonderland themed windows :

yesterday i was watching the Vogue Night of sept. in Paris ...
and heard Alt says that it would be great if every shops she visited was always the way it was this evening ... shops with music and crowded (basically) ...

so i know we only post pictures. but what senses environement (sound, touch, smell etc.) do you like in a shop ?

for instance, i do hate when there's a DJ in a shop (Alt seems to like that ... what a shame !) and a too lousy music ! makes me run away from the shop !
I also hate it when every step you do can be heard by everyone (because of your shoes on the floor - for instance i love Chanel shops for this matter) ...

etc.

Chanel has carpet inside, berlinr?

I like

- not crowded (few people only allowed inside please. at some places here, they would count how many goes inside --i forget what store it was, but it may have been christmas time
- clean design ..not too cluttered, or too many clothes. you can ask for more sizes from the shop assistant.
- good quiet music maybe like ambient or sort of white noise
- furnishings, floor etc interesting materials,
- scattered lighting instead of just one or two sources of light. i went to a button shop once and the lights were below eye level on the wall hidden behind frosted glass or wooden planks, soo nice and not blinding..
- not too many straight shapes and arrangements, i love how they hang clothes at Marni ..it's just floating all over the place :D
- and plants ! maybe windows open for air

it's a bit high maintenance
but it's nice when you feel you want to just live in there
i have been to libraries like this.

also i was in a tourist shop and there was a nice smell of wood.. the place looked like a sauna :P
