Short hair

Deb photo shopped style, to see result before having her hair chopped. Thought the resulting cut was very complimentary, as it is with others here in this thread.

I officially am no longer a short haired girl...I'm going to grow it out for a while and then do Locks of Love.

adore -stopping by to say how much I love your short hair. I'm thinking about chopping my hair off that length too. I'd love to have the Mariacarla look, I'm just scared that I won't be able to style it well. And also that it won't look right with some of my voluminous clothes (my new Dries dress especially) ...

thanks so much tourist

i just went to look at mariacarla's thread because i'm not familiar with her latest hairstyle but she seems to have many! do you have a pic?

styling is definitely an issue . .
my hair is curly and fairly thick (can be frizzy too) so some short styles dont work for me . .in my 'before' pic, the length was cute but not really suitable i dont think . . it took a lot of work to make it look good . . whereas now it is so short that i literally dont even have to think about it - i just shower + go
i never thought i had the kind of hair that would allow me to do that (+ still look good) but for the first time i can do it . . i think my hair either has to be long or really short, and this short length really works for me

as for clothes . . i definitely had to make some adjustments
some clothes are now at the back of my closet because they dont work well, which is sad, but i think it balances out because i've rediscovered other pieces that look so much better now that my hair is short and my face is framed - i guess it's all about balance and volume, like you say

i think you should go for it though . . i'm sure it'd look good!
i think it's one of those you just have to try - it's hard to imagine until you do it

i initially shaved mine for cancer so i didnt have much time (or the right, i suppose) to think about what would look good
and to be honest, i think it is the happiest i have ever been with my hair
i was really surprised by how flattering it was, because i was expecting the worst - maybe i was so pleased because i finally stopped caring . . and i was rewarded !

anyway, i digress - i still think you should go for it
the truth is, what people say is right....it will GROW
and it is pretty exhilarating to chop it all off...it has put me in a whole new frame of mind

ps sorry for such a lengthy response

^ adore, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I had no idea that you had cancer, I'm hoping this means that you have recovered? In any case, I'm so happy for you that you found a style that's both very suited to you and liberating at the same time! I think it perfectly frames your face.

I think this is the kind of cut I'm thinking about, but it doesn't look quite as easy to style as yours does. The photo credit is unfortunately livejournal via google images, I couldn't find the original credit, so sorry ...

tourist that's really cute :woot:

i actually think it is short enough to be fairly easy to style
product will help a lot if your hair is wavy / frizzy . .
and if it's still not behaving, it looks like a quick run of the blowdryer would sort things out . . her hair there looks quite short on the sides (and i'm assuming at the back) so it would really only be the long parts at the top you'd have to worry about, i think

also i have to clear something up
i'm really sorry - in my post above i didnt realise i was unclear
the cancer is actually my grandmother's . . she has just gone through chemo and we shaved our heads together as she was just about to lose all of her hair
. . it was very sudden and all happened within a matter of days - so it was just an impulsive decision on my part to show my support for her

thanks for your kind words

and DO IT tourist!!! :muscles:

What lovely posts, adore, and you look just gorgeous with the cropped hair. :flower:

I really agree that you should just do it, tourist. I actually think short, boyish hair can look really cool with feminine, flowing looks....lends a bit of edge and flirtiness, imo.

My hair looks like this (Renee's) now, which is the shortest it's been in awhile. I am pretty pleased overall.... it's almost the perfect combo of messy/tousled and polished. :P

sorry to keep going off topic, but adore, what a beautiful gesture of support you did for your grandmother! I'm sure that it meant so much to her

I am almost positive that I will try to cut my hair that way. I have very straight, slightly thick hair ... I'm hoping the style will work. thanks adore and laika for the encouragement!

laika - what an adorable cut! it looks like it exactly accomplishes the mix of fun and edgy. I've to see a picture of it!!

I still need to make an appointment, but I will post a picture once I get it cut!

laika + tourist . . thank you

laika i too wld love to see a picture of your hair !
i love renee's hair there . .
so much so that i saved that pic to my laptop just for the haircut

tourist can't wait to see the new 'do!

ahhhh.
short hair gets me so anxious, it really does
i've had a nasty 20s bob for ages (whenever i ask for a 'shorter look' from my hairdressers, they somehow see a 20s bob every time...) but now it's finally grown out down past my shoulders after having let it grown since june '07. i'm due for a cut, though; just too afraid to cut it as short as i'd want it!
i do give a lot of credit to those of you who're unafraid to chop off your locks and sport a spunky short style. i wish i had the courage!

So I finally got my haircut. It's a bit different from the picture I posted, partially because my hair just refuses to be styled that way. I'm pretty happy, although I almost wish it was a little shorter :P Maybe on the next trim.

I does affect the way I feel about my clothes ... I feel like, with the usual sweet stuff I wear, I feel a little too gamine, which I know isn't a bad thing, but I feel like playing up the masculine aspects of the haircut more, esp since my facial features are very soft and youthful. I might even wear jeans again, which I haven't worn in months!!

Short hair is strange. It is easier to take care of and do things with, but there is less to work with.

I was wondering ,is it out of the ordinary to use a womens hair cut as reference for your own potential cut when you're a boy?I constantly am looking at hair books and magazines at the hair salon and all of the mens cuts are outdated while the womens seem to be following current looks.I need to get together a lookbook of potential cuts for my next cut session, my hair growns fast so I should probably get on that as soon as possible.

I love it cinnamon-toast^^ and i want it :D You look amazing!!!

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut similar to how Kate Moss had it in 2001...I have almost black hair, so it should look okay. I'm scared though!
