Simon Porte Jacquemus - Designer, Creative Director of Jacquemus

Watch the scent be his scent 😂
A provençal summery scent: lavender, neroli, sea salt, olive oil, sunscreen, sweaty armpits during heatwave, limon sherbet , lemongrass anti-mosquito, Marseille soap, rosemary, jasmine and pastis.
The bottle will be both an hommage to Aristide Maillol Baigneuses and the Giacomettis from the Maeght foundation with
colors from De Stael paintings.
And a cicada thrill every time one.

Campaign : Alex Consani and a Spanish hunk, both semi naked, on rocks of the Marseilles calanques, by Mikael Jansson

For me he was the perfect chioice for Chanel… amazing eyecatching shows and campaigns… Nobody would have cared about the clothes but at least it would have been a dreamy moment
For me there was no perfect choice because I realize now that I was comparing always the candidates to Karl, and Karl was unique.

But I agree with you and yslforever: he is making his customers dream, and that is one of the most important things.
Go Simon! 💪

He is a fantastic art director indeed. That constant feeling of holidays but he pushed the south of France thing harder for the US.

I must say that more and more, I realize that everything is working precisely because Jacquemus is a contemporary brand trying to elevate. So in a way, his project seems more elevated than the brands like AMI or Isabel Marant and others. I’m not sure we would have appreciated it that much if it was a luxury brand.

And that’s maybe the magic of his brand.

I feel like he should do a show in the US to really solidify his presence in the US. A 1 and done!

I agree. There is so little to be reinvented at Chanel as the house codes are so strict and so set in stones. They don’t need a revolutionary designer.
They need someone to tweak the silhouettes in an younger way, to get rid of the frumpyness, who has opinions (Coco and Karl were never short of strong opinions) and who can revive the frivolity.

That Hollywood movie for Jacquemus is simply 10 times better than the LA Chanel collection by Viard, because it is fun and frivolous.
Something Chanel has not been in years.

Not a talented designer but indeed a gifted art director/ merchandiser.

Please don't kill me: the last... four years? or so, Karl was not supertalented designwise...
But all those runways remain unforgettable: the supermarket, the protest in the Parisian street, the brasserie, the casino, the rocket, the beach....

So maybe you all are right and Simon was perfect for Chanel.
Imagine Jacquemus last collection FW25, wich was cute but a little crafty, done with a Chanel budget and executed by the Chanel petites-mains.

He is indeed the best designer right now in terms of worldbuilding. It's a totally believable universe and you can imagine the exact customers of his brand. He is delivered what he promised even if it was mediocre most of the time.

And I find the comparison between him and Karl is quite irrelevant.
Above all artificial elements of his shows (the set, the themes, the performances, etc), he always focuses on the quality of the clothes, the techniques and craftsmanship. Whether Karl's designs were your taste or not it's a different subject. Karl always put the clothes first, and the rest will follow.
With Simon it is a different approach. I mean his company just got bigger over the years and he has yet to convince me in terms of designs and quality of his dressmaking skills. I mean take a look at his last 3 shows, the budget was there, the quality of his clothes wasn't. His clothes always look like an afterthought compared to all the efforts he put in his marketing and art direction.

I don’t know how you managed to make a link between my post solely based on his new store in LA and a job I am sure he was not even considered one bit by the brand you mentionned but okay…
