I wanted to start this the other day, but then several collections today reaffirmed my observations! Others here have noted the skeletal motif this season, as well.

Spring 2009 isn't about the McQueen's skulls, nor is it a matter of cross & bones iconography. This time, it is more about the paleontological intrigue of skeletal structures. Spines and ribcages in particular seem to fascinate.

I'll post some images within the next few minutes.

I've been noticing this too, it ties into an overall primitive mood that I've been noticing.

Rodarte S/S 09 - the Mulleavys confirmed they were influenced by "exoskeletons", as evidenced in these pieces:

skeletons (both human or other) were ALL OVER the Tokyo catwalk. I will find examples later... Hisui, Mintdesigns, Somarta to name a few

I'm hunting and gathering. I remember thinking that "crustaceans" were a trend I witnessed live in NYFW - Rodarte's S/S 09 works in that context, too - but the familiar, human skeleton seems to be the more popular trend. Though I just noticed some kind of snail dress in V&R's collection. :ninja:

Anyway, a very cool top from Staerk - a show I need to add to the Designers & Collections forum. The inspiration for the collection was Danish ghost stories; she incorporated organic flourishes throughout the looks. The words "bone", "spine", and "fern" were all over her program. This look seems the most obvious:

Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2009
Not only did he offer the best version of "soft bondage" this season, he seemingly took inspiration from the wonders of the human skeleton for his sophisticated, graphical collection.

Notice at hisui, those are *stuffed bones* hanging off those gloves! Everything else was inspired by the human skeletal figure

Does anyone remember which show from NYC had ribcages screenprinted on the tees?

i love this trend.
Ute Ploier had something along the same line in their F/W 08/09 collection
(maybe a little less subtle though)

i hope to see more of it in menswear!

Pugh also had the idea of exoskeletons in his collection.

i feel like i subconsciously was aware of this, but the examples show that there is definitely something going on with this...

i think the word spike used was "primitive" and i totally see that...

finding inspiration from within in the most literal sense :p

this reminds me of the luggage mcqueen did for samsonite with the ribcage motif..
so i'm not surprised at all to see that he went down the skeletal route yet again..

^great example.

I'll dig around and post more soon.
I'm hoping something becomes of the (IMO) even more intriguing "exoskeleton" motif.
