Sneakers and Handbags?

I'm in a fashion dilemma! All my life I have been wearing sneakers/sports shoes with shoulder strap satchels/bags/sports bags. My style has always been funky, "immature".

Now I own some more sophisticated "ladies" handbags. I tried shopping for heels but... I just hate them. Flats are uncomfortable, too. I'm not keen on sandals, either. I just love sneakers! Can they be worn with handbags?

Have you tried boots without heels?

I think if you are going to wear a very sophisticated, elegant handbag with trainers it is only going to look mismatched.

Boots without heels sounds promising! Can you link some sites so I know exactly what you mean if you're free? If not, thanks for the suggestion. I agree that it will be enormously mismatched for me to go with sneakers!

emanne- I know I shouldn't, but I quite often wear my black converse whilst sporting one of my Mulberry handbags. I don't think it looks too bad, sort of eclectic in a SJP kind of way. Why don't you give it a try?

jackie, actually, I wanted to buy a Converse pair because I just love the way they look but have hesitated since I changed my stance towards handbags! If it really looks eclectic it shouldn't be too bad! Maybe I will...

jackieo, I was just about to say the same thing. I wear Cons with a lot of more "ladylike" bags and I think it looks eclectic rather than mis-matched (at least, I hope it does ).

I think it really depends on the type of shoe and handbag. The casual but hip sneakers can easily work its way out, it all depends on the STYLING.

And if you're going to wear Converse shoes, they're quite casual and I think a more urban and young handbag style (like stuff from Marc by MJ or trendy bags not ladylike) can easily work. :flower:

If you just want pictures of what I mean, here are a few examples:

Though if it is not a very posh-looking handbag, you can always match the colours of the bag and trainers like this:

Or this:

Not the best examples, but it was all I could find... Though I think it helps if, instead of having very bulky and chunky trainers, you have ones made in a thinner material.

Of course you can wear sneakers with handbags - nothing is stopping you. If anything, you'll be looked at as an individual (in a positive way, hopefully).

it depends of the sneakers, personally i think converse all stars can look really cool with your "lady" handbags

Sneakers are available in a plethora of colors and styles these days. They don't have to look athletic in the slightest, rly. I have seen women look absolutely lovely sporting sneakers and handbags. It all goes down to styling and execution. A simple pr. of Converse will do the trick. Y-3 sneakers are quite good, too.
