Geraldo da Conceicao’s first resort collection for Sonia Rykiel is a fresh and easy take on the spirit of the house and a quiet evolution of his first runway outing last season. Working mostly on separates and dresses and keeping the shapes simple, he mixed knit with woven pieces, showing a double-breasted Milano knit jacket in microstripes with a Prince of Wales masculine pant. Knitwear is an important part of the Rykiel heritage, and da Conceicao proposed quite a range, from graphic intarsia dresses to sharp-and-chic pleated skirts done in bold sorbet colors — “bright but not harsh,” as da Conceicao said. To give the collection an injection of youthful cool, the designer topped looks with oversize kimono-sleeve biker jackets, and accessorized with giant nylon backpacks and little bowling bags.
