Chad Michael Murray, 24, and Sophia Bush, 23, have separated after five months of marriage, PEOPLE has learned.
A spokesperson for Bush confirmed the split, but offered no further details on the relationship between the couple, who star together on One Tree Hill.
"This is a difficult and unfortunate situation," said Bush in a statement. "I am glad this is being resolved sooner rather than later."
"I am saddened to announce that Sophia and I are separating," said Murray. "This is a very difficult time for me."
Murray and Bush exchanged handwritten vows during their wedding on April 16 at Santa Monica's Hotel Casa Del Mar before 200 guests.
The couple got engaged in May 2004 in Australia when Murray popped the question on a tennis court adorned with 20 bouquets of roses and 500 lit candles spelling out a special message for Bush.
"It's a really, really important moment for a woman, so I wanted to do what I could do to make it special," Murray said at the time.
The pair met on the set of their WB show and began dating in 2003.

I do not watch that show, so I am not sure if they are both still on it. I really do feel bad for her. Rumors have spread about his cheating since the day they married. Wonder if it is similar to a Mario Lopez/ Ali Landry situation?

but then again there are also rumours that she was cheating too..even ones about her and jesse metcalfe (hello...jesse over chad...r u crazy!!) but they are just rumours no one knows the facts except them..but hopefully there wasnt any big dramas cause it would make it very hard to work together...they would maybe have to write one of the charecters off and if that was the case..i wonder who it would be

i hope everythings ok!I can't believe her and Chad have split! They seemed so in love and have been married for only a short time, something major must have happened. I remember reading that there were rumours of a split but it wasn't true and Jessica Simpson was giving them support, due to her constant marriage rumours.

hey guys I have a friend who saw chad in club mood he's wild men he was partying with ryan philippe. and there's some fighting too. the guy is arrogant jerk.

usually very good looking men are arrogant. the only reason im surprised by it all was because he always talked about how in love he was, but hey cheaters fall in love too
I noticed he always mentioned sophia he was saying all this blah blah stuff
and he's not a great guy seriously this guy is an actor he acted very good in interviews well I don't believe in him anyways his a liar I have lot's of friends who know him and he wasn't good looking in personal. and the guys is always having fun with other girls. even paris hiton mentioned she doesn't like chad

She found out just 2 days before the wedding about all of this, but still continued on with the wedding because she wanted to make it work/ because of the media! I met her, she's the sweetest thing! Its his loss, it just makes me wonder, if someone would cheat on her...then who wouldnt a guy cheat on?!!!!!!!
while I was in miami I saw her filming a movie I guess and some other actor's I didn't really said anything to her coz I feel shy. men I wanted to tell her that her hunsband love's to go out with girls.

I really feel bad that this marriage didn't work out because they looked so happy together. Too bad the guy has an ego and decided to let his pecker wander~ I had heard rumors about him cheating a while before they announced they were seperating. As a fan of OTH I hope that this doesn't effect their work together because their characters have an awesome story line.
I guess this is one reason that on set relationships are frowned upon.
I dont really like her dress or purse above. I'm not a fan of polkadots but I love Sophia. And her voice is to die for!
