Studying Abroad.

I'm hopefully studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark next semester (Spring 2007), and I CAN'T WAIT! I used to live there as a child and I'm so excited to be going back and "living" there again.

Is anyone else studying abroad then/now? I'm hoping to meet some other people that will be heading abroad, even if you're going to a different country, because I think it'd be cool to perhaps meet up somewhere along our journeys, or just hear some cool stories!

I'm French (from Paris) and currently studying in Montreal (Bachelor's degree in Political Science). I still have a year and a couple of months left.
I've been here for a while now, and I like it, but I have to admit I can't wait to go back to Paris for good

But eh, yeah.... Me, I'm currently studying in Québec but I wanna do a year or at least a semester abroad... What I'd love would be to take classes in English (or maybe Spanish if I improve drastically lol) but in a country where it isn't the official language! I'd love that Anyone here has done that?! What was your experience like?

Just found out that a few of my friends are going abroad next semester as well. One is going to Israel and the other is going to Ireland. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with them!

i studied abroad in brussels and in madrid.

if you are in madrid, you can go to the costume museum and see one of the original givenchy "breakfast at tiffany's" dresses.i would reccomend to everyone to visit madrid.

i bet youll see lots of good streetfashion in copanhagan, the kiwi.

Studying Abroad- Yay or Nay??

I've been thinking alot about the future and which university to go to and i've decided i'm really keen on studying abroad instead of in the UK (i was thinking maybe Copenhagen) I was hoping there would be some tFSers who have studied abroad and have some advice on the subject!!

Where would you recommend? what's student life like in another country? is it hard to fit in? etc etc

I've wanted to study abroad since I was in middle school, and I'm a Junior in college now. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me. Financial reasons. I wanted to study in Copenhagen too. I say GO FOR IT! It's going to be an experience of a lifetime for you! I always hear positive things about doing it, never negative. If I have one thing to regret, it's not being able to go, and if you have the chance to do it, please do!

By the way, DIS Copenhagen was the program I was interested in. It's an awesome program! One of the best in the world actually.

i studied abroad and recommend it to anyone!! aside from being tons of fun it can be a life changing experience. Gives you a broader perspective on the world and you learn about yourself (strengths and weaknesses) in the process. Your experience (adjusting, etc) is totally up to you. Are you outgoing, open and willing to learn new things? then you will have a blast. If you are shy, more rigid, have a hard time with change...it may take you awhile to open up, but you will still learn and grow and maybe open up.

definite yay, can be one of the best experiences of your life, you just need to make a point NOT to only hang out with the other kids from your home country that are studying abroad.

That is an important point, especially if you are concentrating on language study. If you are studying abroad to learn a language, you NEED to get a foreign boyfriend ... trust me! One of my french profs gave me that advice before I went to Paris, and it was so true.

I studied in Paris for one semester, and stayed for the summer after my semester working as a nanny.

I also spent a winter break (4 credits) for 3 weeks in Oaxaca, Mexico; I stayed with a mexican family; amazing experience.

In addition, I spent a summer working in East Africa (I'm a law student).

You shouldn't think twice about going. Just pick a place, and take out some loans. The return on your investment will be almost infinite.

thanks everyone i agree you should def try to MAKE yourself socialise with people from the country your studying in rather than with fellow brits/americans etc otherwise whats the point in it at all?

legaldiva you sound like you've had some amazing experiences, what was it like in East Africa/what did you do there? Im aiming to do Law as well so id love to know

that's the best way to learn any language, if you're in a foreign country or not

when I was "studying abroad" (in quotes cause it was a complicated situation...), all the girls who became serious with local men ended up deciding to stay a semester longer, a year longer, some even came back for a second year.

I would definitely reccomend (sp?) studying abroad. I haven't personally done it yet but both my sister and my friend have and they both had amazing experiences. My sister went to Spain and lived in an apartment with 3 girls, all from different countries, while my friend went to France and stayed with a family. My friend even met a guy there! I want to go also and am hoping to go not next fall but the year after. My GPA isn't quite high enough yet but I am bringing it up! So my only advice to you would be definitely go, but stay on top of your schoolwork at all times so that you'll have the opportunity to go.

i studied in france for a year and also met my ex there. definitely made me learn the language more quickly and extended my practice of it years later...
