Target's "Go International" with Luella Bartley

a lot of the items are out of stock or are only available in large sizes on the target website.

beware.

Definitely, my friend was talking to a shop assistant in Target and she was saying that the Luella collection is selling really fast and probably be in store for the 90 days its supposed to be as there won't be enough stock, I'd get it while you can!

I want that cherry print tennis skirt so badly, and my target doesn't carry it. I tried to order it on target.com but it's listed as part of an outfit and when I try to add it to my cart, all I get is the shirt.

keep checking other targets around you. they are bound to have different stuff.

the polka dot dress isnt even on the target website.

I went to Target today and I got the tartan dress which I have been in love with for awhile. I tried on the kelly green pencil skirt but it was really unflattering. Overall I was pretty impressed by the collection except for the fact that it was missing a lot of the pieces I was looking forward to, like the rugby shirt. I think I'm going to go back and get the white puff sleeve tee and the button down oxford. I really like the navy blazer, the cherry tennis skirt, the black zip skirt, and the light yellow ruffle blouse, but I would rather wait for these to go on sale.
i agree with fashionaddict1 on this one, the reason why this line is only here for 3 months (until April 1st, I believe) is so that consumers will not pay the items on sale. I read it somewhere in an article, it will keep consumers from waiting and force them to buy it now because it will only be here for a short while.

And another note, I went back to my local Target yesterday, and I had also gone February 1st, they already had new stuff in! The rugby shirts, the polka dotted dress, the bathing suit items, and other things too. I asked the someone when they restock, she had no idea but said that they had some unopened boxes in stock. I would check every-now-and-then if you're waiting for a particular item.

Has anybody seen the black bubble skirt? I saw it in a magazine a few weeks ago, but it doesn't look the same online. Unfortunatly, my Target only has a few items right now.

Yeah I prob. should just get the stuff now, my birthday is coming up so maybe I'll ask for a few pieces. I'm going back on Friday or Saturday, hopefully they will finally have the rugby! There were only two yellow ruffle blouses left on Saturday, so I bet they are out of those.

My Target had the bubble skirt. I think it's pretty cute in person.

so so

I saw the line at Target and it was ok. There are definitely a couple of scores there, but for the most part I thought it was pretty boring, especially compared to her regular stuff.

the bubble skirt is different than the skirt with the zippers!

sadly, i havent seen the bubble skirt yet.

but i did see the polo shirts. they looked kinda nice.

I went to the Target in Commack, LI near my boyfriend's house.. they had all of the stuff... I wasn't impressed with most of it though...

Skull shirt is now available at target.com!!

It was "sold out" online this past weekend, but it is now available for pre-order (will ship out mid-late march). This was the piece I wanted most in the collection...fell in love with the print and colors.

Overall, I feel the button-down shirts are the most flattering. If you're going to get anything, get a shirt. I have a hard time finding dress shirts that are narrow in the shoulders and not puffy in the back. Luella got the cut just perfect...it follows your curves without being too tight.

I bought the red cherry print shirt at the local Target. It looks great with the sleeves rolled up.

I also tried on some of the pants while I was there. I tried on the heart jeans in a size 3 and they were pretty true to size, but I had to go up to a size 7 in the suspender pants just so they'd look decent. They are cute pants though.

heres a qu for those with the cherry ipod case - what sizes of iPod does it hold, and also, I'm not mad about the brown strap thing - do you think it would be possible to remove it DIY style without wrecking the thing? ie. how is it attached?
(sorry for the qu's, i'm ordering online from the uk, so totally blind! any help is 10000% appreciated)

the ipod cases are built for the regular size 3g (generation) and 4g ipod. Meaning, it won't fit the ipod mini nor the new video ipod.

thanks, darkintragedy - that really helps.
do you happen to know if the strap is removable?

has anyone seen the pink empire waist dress at any of their local targets?

or the other dresses? (ie the red or black "trapunto" stitch dresses)

or the bomber jackets?

the shirt dress is online now.
so is the balloon skirt and the victorian top.

i wonder if the victorian top would wrinkle. are there sequins on the balloon skirt?

"English prep and punk" for Target

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Even though her name rolls off the tongue, odds are that you've never spoken it or even heard of designer Luella Bartley. But in a bold fashion move, Target is hoping that you'll fall for her and her clothes.
With its successful Isaac and Mossimo lines, Target is branching out into new territory. Bartley is the first designer for Go International, a series of edgy designers who in a whirlwind of fashion excitement will make cameo appearances at Target with one-time collections.
Last Wednesday, Luella for Target debuted. The clothes and accessories are bright and playful. There are cherries on skirts, purses, shirts — everywhere.
Born in Stratford-on-Avon, Bartley, 31, became a journalist after college, first at the Evening Standard, a UK newspaper, and then as a fashion writer at British Vogue. In 1999, she staged a casual fashion show and went on to present her own line of high-end clothes and accessories. Her signature is sturdy-but-whimsical leather handbags starting at around $800.
That's part of why the Luella for Target line is such a breakthrough and a fashion moment. Now for $19.99, you can own a skull and heart-covered tote, or a dress for $39.99.
Bartley lives in London, has two young kids and showed her couture line at New York Fashion Week on Sunday:
Q: Your designs aren't as known here. How can the Target line connect with an American audience?
A: I feel like more than geography it's about age. I would like to think that any teenager or young girl would be into this collection. The inspiration is a very English take, but there are a few American refs, too, like the cheerleader skirts and pony baseball jackets. I think there is a strong mutual like for each country when it comes to style and culture, so I hope the English inspirations will work around the U.S.
Q: Why cherries?
A: Cherries for no other reason that they are really cute, and I associate them with youth. The inspiration for the collection is very English, from the London music scene to more traditional English references, like old English schools and equestrianism and English sports, a mix of English prep and punk.
Q: What is your favorite piece?
A: It would have to be the tartan puff ball dress, it's very '80s posh, looks like something a teenager might wear to a hunt ball (posh English party for debutantes).
Q: What is the difference between this collection and your other designs (other than price!)?
A: It's much younger, which I have loved doing. I have really been able to get into the youth and energy of this project. This is a market that I have not really been able to reach before, and it's great to be able to design for a market where the young girls wouldn't maybe be able to afford the main line. I have really let myself run riot and go really young and cute. ...

Does anyone else get annoyed with the misuse of couture? Luella did not show a couture line at NY Fashion Week. Gah!

But I digress. Checked out my local Target and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't buy anything yet but I did try on a few things. I thought the black zip skirt and green Grommet Tulip skirt were adorable! A bit shorter than what I would normally wear, say to work, but definitely out.

I also loved the orange bolt striped School Blazer. It fit really well, but sadly, I am not a girl who can wear those colors! I looked a bit like a deranged ice cream vendor. :(

I would like to see more of the sculls/heart line. I'm planning to check out a larger Target before I pick up some of this stuff. Oh yeah, and the sizes are Junior. Don't let the numbers get to you, you might have to go up to the next odd number or more.
