Tattoos

just got two tattoos last week. On the inside of my right wrist is the "Om" Symbol, and on the inside of my left wrist is the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum". They are both pretty small, it only took 15 minutes to do each and it did not hurt at all. I'm not a very religious person, but I consider my self to be very spiritual, and these two tattoos mean alot to me. I know getting a tattoo on the wrist is sometimes looked down upon because it is not considered classy in the professional world, but Im not ashamed about my spirituality and I wanted them placed in an area i can often look at. Also regarding the on going argument of how the tattoos are going to look ugly when you're old and wrinkly, all i have to say is : It's not about how it's going to look when I'm 65, its going to be about the memories I'll have about my life when I look at it. Other people may look at my tattoo at that age and be disgusted, but everytime i look at it (even if it looks wrinkly), I would only be reminded of all that i went through in life, my experiences that lead me to getting the tattoo, and the memories of how my life was after the tattoo. It would be like my personal memoir, one which only I'll know all the details about.

they sound lovely .. adn such a lovely meaning as well .. love they have a meaning to you and somehting very dear to you :floweR: id love to see pics

my friend has just opened a tattoo shop i might finally book up the courage to get one done. I have wanted one for so long but i have such a low pain threshold. Also i know ill regret it cos im so indesisive

i personally don't like tattoos for me, but i think depending on size, they look good on other ppl.

I think if you're going to get a tattoo, it should be something with a lot of meaning behind it.

:o

I really like tattoos, but it generally depends on the person. A nice tattoo can look very sexy

i have 4 tats...
my first one is a red seahorse in the up edge of my left arm near my palm
2nd one is a writing on my right inside the lower arm
my 3rd one is an llustration of alice in wonderland on my back upper neck

my last one is another alice illustration on my inner left low arm

i know this is the most common question you get but. . Did it hurt?

:ermm: :ninja:

Those are amazing

Although (don't take offense) I hope you never get sick of them because they're both quite big

Your ALICE tattoos are beautiful:heart:

My next one is going to be a Christmas present to myself. A crown as an armband I think.

seahorseinstripe - your tattoos are amazing. i love both illustration of Alice.

a friend of mine did these tattoos (on the same day, one after the other) last april. on the inside of my left wrist is the word "Live", it has a swirl off the end that also looks much like an "s" which i love because depending on how you read it, it changes the word. and on the right side of my left wrist, i have a cross which i love and i came in with a simple sketch but he took it to a whole new level. i love both, even though i do realize things on the wrists are seen as "not professional" but hey, i'll cross that bridge when i get to it..

now i'm really wanting something for new jersey, perhaps the outline or exit sign (only people from new jersey would understand the importance of an exit sign!) as well as a bruce lyric of something of that sort, but i want it small and i'm not sure where yet though!

There are some lovely tattoos in this thread!

My sister and I are thinking of getting tattoos soon, at Hart & Huntington since I live right near it. We went in and met the artists and they were extremely helpful and very cool.

I have an idea of what I want but I am not 100% sure yet. I want to get something small on the back of my neck or on my ankle or wrist. Can anyone recommend good sites for research besides checkoutmyink.com and bmeink.com?

I went to them right after they opened.

They are pretentious and rude...and WAY overpriced.

I got a piece done by Jason at Inkredible Ink and it is BEAUTIFUL work.

I'm not saying those guys at H&H won't do a good job. But they were very rude when I went, and quoted me almost three times as much as Inkredible Ink.

They think because they are at CityWalk and co-owned by a quasi celebrity that they can get away with ripping off unknowing tourists, and that people will put up with thier bad attitudes.

I hope you have a better experience with them if that is where you decide to go though.

Post pictures when you are done.

Thanks Iana - I have done a lot of research and I too have heard that they are way over priced, so I am looking into other artists in the area as well. At H&H they told us it was a minimum of $150 to get work done...I was like . I also heard that they are rude but they were so nice and very helpful as well - but they did say it was the slow season so maybe thats why they spent so much time with us.

What's the average price for a small tattoo anyway? (This would be my first if I go through with it)

I am going home to MD for X-mas and if I make it to Georgetown I will check out Jinx Proof again...I have known the owners for a long time, so I know I would feel comfortable with one of them working on me.

Did Jason do your Koi fish coverup? (Yes, I went that far back in the thread ) That is a gorgeous gorgeous tatt!! I will definately be looking into that shop.

Yes Jason did that cover up. You can't even see the old awful one underneath, and it still looks gorgeous today.

He works at the Inkredible Ink on IDrive, not the one downtown.

As far as DC tattoo shops (I lived there for four years and researched them too) Fattys and Jinx Proof are the best in the business. But I have to say that I think Jinx Proof is overpriced as well. I was going to do a small star about the size of a quarter and the told me it would be $150-200. It would have taken like 30mins to do probably. I guess they have a $150 per hour mininum which is pretty standard I guess.

I had a friend go with a design to both FAttys and Jinx Proof for a quote and Jinx Proof quoted her twice as much as Fattys. But the thing with Fattys is that you have to get on a wait list to get an appt.

I would try yelp.com and put in tattoos for wash, dc and you can read reviews of what people say about each one, and compare that way.

What are you thinking about getting?

If I ever got a tattoo, it would be some of my favorite lyrics from an Arctic Monkeys song on my wrist.

Iana - I am not 100% sure of what I'm getting yet....I am thinking of getting something small on my inner wrist, the back of my neck or ankle. These are all areas that are easy to cover if I needed to. I'll let you know when I do decide!

i want to get a tattoo, somewhat.
i'm usually someone who isn't really for
tattoos, but i want it to be discret & somewhere
you'd only see if, well. .you know :shifty:

i want a really simple tatto, just an outline, but i want it on my wrist, pp say its a really painful area and im so sensitive to pain, and also say its a very tricky area bc of the vains and the thin skin..what should i do?

^ i got the word "Live" on my wrist (i posted i think a page back) and i had no pain whatsoever. if it is simple and just an outline, it shouldn't take very long and you should not experience much pain. shading/details are usually what cause more pain.
