Teeth Whitening

OT: i noticed a few members saying they don't like their sharp canines, but i actually like sharp canines like a vampire, they look really neat. Craig David has them i think, i saw these two sharp canines in one of his music videos, except they look cosmeticaly altered to look really big and sharp.

I considered teeth bleaching - though I must admit I hardly need it. I thought it was permanent, but after reading here that you need to do it every 6 months - no thankyou!

I'm actually in the process of whitening my teeth.

I'm using Colgate Platinum Daytime Professional Whitening System (here) as recommended by my dentist (who happens to be my sister and who has also used it herself ^_^) Basically you wear mouth trays with paste in them for one hour a day for 2 weeks, and will put you back around $200 for a pack. Which should actually last you more than 1 complete 2 week treatment.

The only problem is you need to avoid coffee, red wine and tobacco (god that's like almost all the good things ) during treatment because it'll discolor the teeth.

Most people are concerned about tooth sensitivity. At the risk of sounding like a commercial I'd reccommend GC Tooth Mousse by Recaldent (here). My teeth were feeling a little discomfort from the whitening and I applied this once - and it went away just like that! I was pretty impressed. It even comes in different flavors; strawberry, melon, vanilla, mint and tutti frutti, haha :flower:

I have tried the at home kit- Arctic White.
Its crap, to put it nicely.
It promises drastic results, and you just get sensitive gums. There is $100 I will never see again. Im really upset over it!

I really want to whiten my teeth using BriteSmile, but I was wondering if anyone here used it and what it was like, etc.

Also, is it really pricey?:ninja:

i really urge you not to do this ... there has been so much in the uk press the last few weeks about the dangers of these home kits, urging people not to use them. They destroy your teeth and they leak etc. adn cause lots of trouble. It is really worth saving up to get it done proifessionally, i mean its a small price to pay when you consider how precious your teeth are.

i addicted to whitening toothpaste... i secretly carry a stash in my handbag for a pick me up brush  i brush at least 4 times a day

Thank you for the advice Tia, but I did it like a month ago. And yes its crap I wish I would have known before hand that its a waste of money. For sure Im going to a pro next time.

has anyone tried go smile? they sell the kits at sephora and i heard it's great...
Hi
I used GoSmile,I find it worked way better than the BriteSmile.
The person that did my teeth at britesmile said it GoSmile had higher amount of bleach and was good. It's just that it takes a few days to get awesome results, where as britesmile is immediate.
I like the maintenance of GoSmile and you will notice a difference right away. I like the little ampules that stay fresh, because they are individual.
I highly recommend it.

I have been reading many of your posts regarding pain in reference to personal whitening trays. I have been working within a dental facility for some time now, and a good way to PREVENT the - tooth sensativity - is to reccomend a lower solution of whitening, as well as purchase a flouride* toothpaste. Place the toothpaste in your tray prior to whitening, and let sit for approx 1 min. After whitening, repeat. That should solve your whitening sensativity and further allow you to enjoy your super white teeth! This will act like a shield towards sensativity-Pain free.

I've ALWAYS had sensitive teeth.
I got a professional whitening tray & gel from my dentist and I didnt find it to hurt at all... I wish i could remember the name of the gel stuff I was given.
What brand is everyone using?

A professional brand of flouride paste, which acts in prevention of tooth sensativity after whitening, and other affects is Pro-DentX, you can purchase this from your dental facility, or any for that matter.

I do the same thing!!

I have two big front teeth too, I've had people comment on it. As for people with vampire teeth I think those sort of things are really cool, frekcles, minor imprefections are way attractive.

As for the baking soda, Im going to have to give that one a try.

The only thing with baking soda is that some people actually obtain a reaction on their gumline. Be sure to brush away from the gums and rid of all outstanding baking soda. It can irritate and cause severe redness. Baking soda does work though, yet only over a period of time.

*nods* I think it's too slow acting for me, haha. I like things to be instantaneous

Yes, crestwhite strips work. Yet they tend not to target all areas.
For a fast and drastic change i'd really go with the trays, i've done it all.
