The 2012 Summer Olympics : London

Anyways I don't know why sending a model there?
They've strengthened Brazil's presence in popular culture, it makes perfect sense to me.

Gisele would've been far far more representative but I guess they gotta go more commercial, and Alessandra's definitely more famous among men and people that aren't necessarily into fashion.

Speaking of which, I thought there would be at least a couple of minutes dedicated to British fashion. They should've come up with something special for Kate Moss..

John Lennon's tribute was beautiful .. as was Freddie Mercury's.

No words for Jessie J and Queen.. what the hell were the organizers thinking :ninja:.. also expected the Spice Girls' performance to be a bit more exciting. Oh and Wonderwall felt like such a cliché..

Getting so excited for Brazil's Olympics + World Cup marathon already!

I thought Adele was going to perform since she is currently the most famous british singer...oh well she probably refused to do that due to pregnancy...also what about Robbie Williams?why wasn't he there?
Spice Girls were just AMAZING!Loved Victoria's dress it was so sexy! Also Jessie J was really good, so does the "fashion" segment
Alessandra Ambrosio looked like a beauty peagent, that dress was so tacky, she should have worn some typical brazilian costume or something coming from a British designer.

I wanna give this Olympic a rate of 8.5/10...it was not perfect because of the bit boring opening ceremony and the bored stare of the queen (as well as the terrible 007 sequence)...can't wait for RIO! 1453 days to go

I´m pissed and yet resigned that they didn´t showcase hard rock/heavy metal... other than PF and Queen...

Nothing against Ale but imo Gisele should have been there... pregnant and all :)

Not having Jimmy Page at least a minute was such a slap on the face.
I didn't mind the Spice Girls, since I can stand their music, and oddly they all are better looking then 10 years ago. :brows: Ginger and Emma.

My goal now is to be actually in Rio. B)

Edit:
And one last thing, if you are going to show this red cards for floating at least be consistent.
I hate the targeting to our race walkers.

seriously can somebody explain me wtf Jessie J did to be in the closing ceremony let alone sing with Queen?!
and how is her and One Direction there instead of british pop stars like M.I.A, Lily Allen or Adele??
the biggest absents for me were Morrissey, Radiohead, Joy Division, Siouxsie and Amy.. at least a tribute or something would've been nice:(

i think this closing ceremony in general had great elements but they didn't really know how to mix them coherently, it looked kinda chaotic and even bizarre at times :ninja:
i liked George Michael's show although i think his second song was unnecessary.. also it seemed that he didn't have much from the budget, i mean he was literally alone on the stage and compared to Annie Lennox's
my highlights were Emeli Sandé, Spice Girls! and of course Kate Moss and the girls:heart:

she looked so cool when she was unveiled B)

^ I agree about the performers. While I secretly like One Direction :ninja:. I hated that MIA or Radiohead weren't mentioned. I can understand not having Morrissey & Joy Division, since they are not as popular, even though I adore both, JD is my favorite ever..

I really liked the models, Kate killed it! I was with friends & they didn't quite get it.
The John Lennon & Queen tributes were the best. Spice Girls! I loved it & wish it had lasted longer.

The taste of Rio was cool, I can't wait for Rio!

you know i was actually thinking, perhaps MIA and radiohead were asked to be part of this but declined. i know both artists can a bit uncompromising so maybe it's not the venue for them.

loved the kate bush feature though! and i adore the newer version of running up that hill with kate's more mature vocals. kind of a nice contrast with the original 12" version which this was based on. too bad she didn't actually perform but given her reluctance to performing live i'm not shattered about it. still got to hear kate in this moving tribute to british music even though some were left out. would have loved to hear some bjork too. even though she's icelandic her solo career for the most part was derived from the british music scene and has been an intrinsic force in britain ever since. would have also loved to hear PJ Harvey as well given the subject matter from her previous album and the fact that it was inspired by england. shame.

I really enjoyed the closing ceremony; lot's of fun and it just seemed like a giant party. But I can totally see why the Queen sent Prince Harry to represent her, it didn't seem like her scene at all. I think parts of it could have been executed better but overall not too shabby, Britain! I liked the first set a lot, all the printed literature was really neat. I loved seeing the Spice Girls preform, they are just so cool. And erm, I have to admit, I did enjoy seeing One Direction preform. Their music is just so damn catchy! :innocent: But I was so excited to see Ed Sheeran and he did not disappoint. And of course, Take That rounding out the show was absolutely lovely.

Also, I loved when "Bright Side of Life" was being preformed, a total classic, and it was perfect when they panned to Prince Harry singing along to the song. The way that they extinguished the cauldrons flames was really interesting, and it's definitely my favorite olympic cauldron that they've ever had.

Brazil's presentation was interesting, I was expecting more to be honest, but I'm sure it's just a little teaser of what's to come. And if nothing else, it looks like Rio will be a great party!

I'm not too worried about the underwhelming performance by Rio, I remember London's performance during the closing ceremony in 2008 was pretty dreadful as well.

The closing ceremory was great, except this:

One Direction :innocent:
Russell Brand (i didn't know than him can sing) :ninja:
Jessie J (It seems tha her was so very excited to be part of this) :ninja:

The surprises was:

Pet Shop Boys :woot:
Annie Lennox
Kate Bush (well i know thah she don't appear on the ceremory, the new version of "Running Up That Hill" is )
The tributes of Lennon & Freddy (except with Jessie J singing "We Rock You")
Oblivously the runway with Kate, Naomi & the other girls (with a little tribute of Bowie in the beginning)
Take That (really miss Robbie on the ceremory)
Spice Girls (i didn't know than they reunited to perform)
George Michael (singing "Freedom") :woot:
Madness

Also i'm so disspointed than Blur don't appear on the ceremory :( , i mean the media said than their were perfoming, it seems will don't.

Was great production, but i still the opeping ceremory was better, can't wait of the next olympics in Rio show us on all around the world.

The Closing Ceremony was lovely, even better than the Opening one. It's more like a music concert though

 Spice Girls + Darcey Bussell and the models

Other songs are great as well.

I am surprised that the Queen wasn't there though.

Good job London! I love Olympic Games this year, sad that now it's over.

Robbie Williams said before everthing that happened with Gary that he would be opting out of the closing ceremony to be with his pregnant wife.

i'm sorry but what was this jessie j thing all about? i think that's the one area i was really dumbfounded with. they literally tried to shove her down our throats. and she was horrendous on the queen track. sorry but she may have a big voice but it's too contrived for my liking....mercury is was very natural and operatic.

and i forgot to mention....annie lennox was splendid....little bird  i love that whole goth-y pirate theme that accompanied that track.

I was a bit disappointed that she didn't segue into Walking on Broken Glass though!!

^agreed. some might even say what the music tribute had to do with a sporting event but the whole point of the olympic opening and closing ceremonies is to celebrate the cultural heritage of that host country/city. and fashion has its intrinsic place in british culture and also seeing that london does happen one of the main stops on the fashion circuit.

people seriously should get over it.
