The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #2

I literally have no idea where to start..

What is and is not working for you currently?

Do you understand what your personal style is? (We have a thread called Starting the fashion thing that might help with that, if it's an issue)

So I made a list of the ultimate basic wardrobe list and it seems I have a lot of black on it...

Well, my issue is that when I go shopping I seem to gravitate torwards prints and really...eccentric pieces. I never buy basics-ever. So when I'm getting ready to get dressed, I literally have..nothing to wear because sometimes I'm not in the mood to wear something wild and crazy.

^ So I would identify the top 5 basics from your list, and hunt for those this season. Or maybe allow for one statement piece ...

it's time to revisit this thread again
i'm done for autumn shopping. just bought a bag, which is major. it instantly kills all of my craving for bags. so that's quite a success. really, it's just "the perfect bag" for me in every sense, the color, the shape, the size, the functionality, and the incredible feel of leather...
clothes wise, i'm really tired of mass-produced, low quality clothes. just cleaned out my closet for second time of the year. so from now on i really gonna settle down with nice, comfy, flattering clothes that i love wearing again and again...
what i've bought during sales:
a bleached boyfriend jeans that i wear non-stop
a light pink button down shirt
a cute bra
a black fitted smock dress (very lovely)
a sweatpant (again so comfy and lovely)
a beige ankle boots from yoox
and the bag
that's it. i'm done for the new season. very happy and very fulfilled ^-^

We have a few color threads that might be helpful to you ... you could try one of the color analysis methods, it would at least be a jumping off point for you.

I have Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui ballets ... like them both, but don't find them perfect. I have not yet been able to bring myself to spend Lanvin $$$ for flats. I do regret not getting the silver python ones Michelle Obama has--metallics are so versatile, and they really are gorgeous. The python, of course, was even more expensive ... Have had Hollywould in the past--disappointing. Not sure they're still in business ...
I'll take a look at the color analysis threads. I might also go to a store that sells lots of t-shirt in different colours and try them on and see what works. I think good ballet flats are difficult to find, as so many of them are badly shaped so flop off the foot or are unfortable as there isn't enough sole on them.

^^
Ferrgamo makes flats available in a variety of widths, so you could get a narrow pair, for example AA. I would also search on Zappos by size and include width.

yup, ferragamo's flats run from very narrow to very wide. and their ballet shoes are so comfy and durable as well!

Starting to think about my fall purchases, which feels slightly ridiculous because it's 110 degrees here. (I live in the desert, real fall weather doesn't hit until November...) I feel generally content with my summer/spring wardrobe, it's just my fall wardrobe that I always feel is lacking. Money is tighter than ever this year, though, so I've indicated my price ranges. Here's what I have so far:

- chocolate brown heeled boot (all of mine are flat) - not more than $200
- emerald + yellow gold ring - not more than $400 (if I can't find something in this price range, then I won't get one of these this year)
- oversized cat eye sunnies - not more than $150
- cashmere cardigan - not more than $200, I'd say. (Not sure what color, this is where I'm stuck! I have two over-sized cashmere cardigans from J Crew in black & gray, but I want something more fitted. Not sure if I should get it in black or some other color...)

If you have any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them. :) This list is still in-progress, so I'm sure I'll be editing this as I go along.

^ Would you consider another stone like chalcedony or jade? As far as color for your cardigan ... I like plum for a 'neutral' that's also a color ... you could also go with a statement piece (like red or leopard) since you have the basics already ...

I love jade. If I could find one within that price range, I'd definitely get it. Never heard of chalcedony, I feel so dumb! Going to Google it. Also, if it at all helps me, I have gold I can melt for the setting, so then most of the money could go to the gem.

Ah your color suggestions are always perfect! Plum is gorgeous, & you're right, that'd be such a good neutral. Brilliant. :)

Updates:

Removed the co-operative sailor top from Urban Outfitters because it sold out. Also removed the ditsy print babydoll dress from Urban Outfitters after reading reviews of the product and deciding it wasn't worth the money.

Purchased a khaki coloured linen shirt & am considering going back to get it in either red or navy blue. (image attached source: my own picture) And as I've previously mentioned in this thread, I purchased a black pencil skirt (on sale!) and the perfect pair of boyfriend fit rolled cuff jeans.

I received the printed dress that I ordered online intending it to be my 'event' style dress for the season, but it's so short I can only wear it with opaque tights, so it's going to be an A/W piece, not a S/S piece for this year. I also have received my See By Chloe beach tote and it is MASSIVE. It's going to be perfect for taking to the beach/pool/BBQs.

I discovered a pair of sandals that I had completely forgotten about, so that takes one item off of the list but unfortunately my only pair of black ballet flats are about to die! So I will need to replace them ASAP. I did manage to find the perfect pair of black peep toe wedges at Nine West recently (I think I have mentioned this before) but I need to figure out if they are wearable on slippery surfaces because sometimes the thinner heeled wedges are quite unsteady and I don't really want to faceplant in the middle of the city.

^ :o The Lanvins? Could you have them resoled?

Don't know if I mentioned this, but I recently discarded a pair of cheap (and by that I mean under $100) ballets and resolved that I just am not going to buy shoes at that price point anymore. I have a very solid shoe repair guy who can fix anything, and I can continue to work with shoes if something on the bottom wears out. But if the upper is shot, nothing to do about that ...

On the wedges, why not have them Zipsoled?

CaraMia, don't feel dumb ... you learn something new every day ;) This one is $60 ... just the first one I found.

PS Here's a necklace for $485 ... to show you what a bit better quality stone looks like. Oh, and I was going to suggest that you might want to check out pawn shops ... some at least don't assign any value to colored stones because they're not sure if they're real or not. So the rings would be priced for the gold only. That way, if you can find it, an emerald would be within reach ...
