im trying to rebuild my fall wardrobe... what do you guys think are some good basics to start with? i making a list so i can try and budget everything out as university has got be going broke :(

^How about a turtleneck sweater, a pea-coat, and knee-length boots? Don't buy anything if it's short-sleeve.

do you know any "french chic" fashion blogs?
looking for an inspiration... :innocent::flower:

PS Here's a necklace for $485 ... to show you what a bit better quality stone looks like. Oh, and I was going to suggest that you might want to check out pawn shops ... some at least don't assign any value to colored stones because they're not sure if they're real or not. So the rings would be priced for the gold only. That way, if you can find it, an emerald would be within reach ...

Oh, okay! A pawn show is a great idea! Hopefully the next time I go to San Diego I can start perusing them. :)

^ :o The Lanvins? Could you have them resoled?

No not the Lanvins. I do need to have those resoled as after getting caught in a freak storm while travelling in Washington they are quite badly damaged. But as they are black patent, I see them as more an Autumn/Winter shoe than a spring summer. Not sure why, just my personal preference ^_^

ta-ta i am loving that ring and pendant!

Belowen - wow - ur list puts mine to shame :(
lets go shopping! ^_^

I love some of the "french chic" blogs suggested here, just thought I'd share one of my favourites (not French, still awesome) - http://tomboystyle.blogspot.com/

It's tightly focused on one aesthetic, which I find useful and inspiring when it comes to paring down on shopping - it keeps my mind on what I truly like.

I've always found it challenging to make lists when it comes to shopping, because I either get discouraged when I can't find what works for me and abandon it, or I get distracted by other things, and abandon it. It's quite amazing how organised some of you guys are!

I've decided I don't need anything else for the next few months since I bought several things in the past month, but I am currently obsessed with the idea of a plain navy long-sleeved shirt (in a soft fabric), or blouse.

Things I need for fall/winter:

1) A white turtleneck
2) A black turtleneck
3) A versatile, patterned scarf
4) A red coat!!!
5) White & red raglan, white & black raglan, and white & navy raglan from American apparel

I *think* I have everything else I need?

Hi!

My updates for this fall;

- grey ls v-neck cashmere sweater
- wide leg trouser-jeans (dark blue denim)
- dark blue casual military jacket
- black ls shirtdress ( wide knee length hem)

- two black bags
- black men-ish shoes
- black tall boots

I'm still looking for skinny trousers with 7/8 length (NOT jeans), probably black. And after that, I think I'm done.

Edit: Well, I sort of NEED some new skirts too..., but those are so difficult to find, but I'll try to!

I really like the philosophy behind this thread. I've bought so many low-to-mid-level clothing items so often, only to have them shrink/pill after a few washings, etc. I'm beginning to wonder if the answer is just to invest in a few high-quality, expensive pieces of clothing that I absolutely love and will wear frequently.

I just found out that Saks 5th Ave just closed in the largest city in my state, leaving very few other brick-and-mortar shopping stores to chose from (I hate ordering clothes online). So finding these nice clothes has just become harder......:p

Yay! I crossed off a few more items off my list!

longbuttonovercardigan.jpg

Well, not as chunky of a knit as I wanted, and I wanted this sort of item to be from All Saints, but I still adore this! It was love at first sight. It looks better on, of course, rather than on the rug like that. So figure-flattering, and I love the collar/neck line. I'll prolly be able to find an ultra-chunky cardigan for winter when it's more appropriate for stores to be selling them, though. :D

lacerufflehemlayer.jpg

I love lace, so it was kind of a win-win to have it all over this ruffle layer. Haven't tried layered it under a long sweater yet, though, but I am sure it will look good.

shortsleevesweaterdress.jpg

I didn't buy this--my sister gave it to me--and a short-sleeve sweater dress isn't on my list, but it's definitely welcome to my wardrobe! Love the simplicity and the puff sleeve detail. It's so me and it'd be perfect for fall and winter, and maybe I could layer a long sleeve under it?

I could've crossed off the brown strappy sandals off my list too with a pair of shoes I bought from Chinatown (which were extremely cute and not tacky/cheap looking at all!), but I realized the vendor boxed the wrong shoes (in the wrong size, too!) when I got back to my hotel room, and when I tried to go back the next day he wasn't open. :( I'm so mad!

I've just updated my wardrobe to include:
Striped shirts (in red and white, also in blue and white)
Dark wash jeans (two pairs)
Blue Blazer (this has a bit of a military feel to it which I love)
Grey cardigan
Pink scarf
Cream colored scarf
Blue and purple tank top

However I am still on the search for a pair of oxford shoes and ballet flats. I think that these items will work well with the rest of my wardrobe and keep it simple and elegant.

I saw some beautiful grey leather Oxfords at Zara, and they were quite comfortable too, might be worth taking a look there. I wish I could find some decent ballets flats too, I refuse to buy Repettos because in my experience they're just not worth the price.

I like the sound of that blue military-ish blazer..
