The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #2

I really like the philosophy behind this thread. I've bought so many low-to-mid-level clothing items so often, only to have them shrink/pill after a few washings, etc. I'm beginning to wonder if the answer is just to invest in a few high-quality, expensive pieces of clothing that I absolutely love and will wear frequently.

I just found out that Saks 5th Ave just closed in the largest city in my state, leaving very few other brick-and-mortar shopping stores to chose from (I hate ordering clothes online). So finding these nice clothes has just become harder......:p

Yes, that is the answer :D Glad you're enjoying the thread.

I have an idea for fall shopping, but it's just too damn hot to shop for anything warm. Am waiting till I feel more inspired ...

Ta-ta, you mentioned before that you have cashmere gloves like the ones on the picture below. Where are they from and do you know if they're still available there? Or do you know anywhere online where they sell them? It's getting so cold already here and I think I really need a pair of gloves soon.

Mine are from Barney's ... they're black with a popcorn pattern on top & a decorative pearl button on the inside wrist. They are hand-knitted in England--I don't remember the label, but it's a woman's name I think. Jane something? Let me know if you want me to check the gloves ... which aren't with me.

This thread is so inspiring! I went through my closets here the other day and wrote down what i needed for fall.

- Black coat (GOT I)
- Kingsland parka in navy, black or grey
- Navy blue cashmere cardigan
- Grey oversized jumper (GOT I)
- Grey or black knitted snood (GOT IT, I found one who was grey AND black ^_^)
- Black shorts (GOT I)
- Cheap Monday jeans, one in black and one in grey.
- Black flat boots.
- Ilse Jacobsen tall rain boots in black.

Hah, it looks like i´m only wearing black and grey! xD But i do have a lot of colourful blouses in my closet :p

Hi!

My updates for this fall;

- grey ls v-neck cashmere sweater
- wide leg trouser-jeans (dark blue denim)
- dark blue casual military jacket
- black ls shirtdress ( wide knee length hem)

- two black bags
- black men-ish shoes
- black tall boots

I'm still looking for skinny trousers with 7/8 length (NOT jeans), probably black. And after that, I think I'm done.

Edit: Well, I sort of NEED some new skirts too..., but those are so difficult to find, but I'll try to!

Hi!

Just here to inform, that I find those trousers. They are black cheapies from Zara, but fit is pefect for me and I can wash them home. Really good for my purpose!

And about skirts... I designed two or three new ones and desided get them tailor-made for me.

So, I think I'm more than done for this fall!

Love this thread... I wish Ta-Ta and Belowen and the rest, you'd post pictures of your clothes...I'm so curious what your style is like!

Here's my list for Winter 10/11

Shoes
Black boots (not too high)

Tops
1 or 2 nice and simple but still unique tops in rosé, a light purple.
I hope to find some nice ones with details. Simple is nice, but not too simple. (Maybe pockets)

Cardigans
I'd love a nice, warm one for winter in camel. Not too short and flattering...
I'm size 34/36 so they're usually either too tight or too loose

Accessories
A nice, special necklace that is good quality... I think I get one from my parents for b-day.
A nice hat for winter, I'm thinking wool in camel (as I have a beautiful camel coat with a big hood from last year)
Beautiful, special designer gloves
Black overknees
Pullover
1,2 long ones, either knitted (but not too heavy) or cashmere (in camel, rosé, grey)

Pants
black skinny jeans (not too skinny though)

Let's hope I find all this ;-)

I'm not quite as organized as some of you, partly because I expect to get a lot of my stuff from thrift stores, so I have to keep an open mind. But recently I've found many things for which I had long been keeping an informal mental list.

Recently acquired:
I had a sudden but inexplicable desire for boxy 80s-vintage silk shirts, and I found one in a lovely ecru color and another in black. So I'm done there. They're easy, casual, and refined enough for work.

I finally found a black skirt that will do for the winter, to wear with knee high boots. The funny thing is that I had originally bought it for full price at J. Crew, but then thought better of it and returned it. Never went on sale in my size. But I found it at the thrift store this past weekend for $7. :mowhawk:

I finally found a nice pair of men's-inspired oxfords, too. I will wear them a la Karen Walker, with skirts and dresses to impart a bookish tone to my outfits.

Still need to find:
I'm looking for a pair of culottes for the winter. In a brown tweed or a heavy cotton that drapes well. Maybe a coat, and some warm woolens, too.

P.S. I always have this tiny fear when I visit this thread that I will have one too many items and be kicked off.

^ :woot: Is that a skirt with your name on it, or what :woot:

Now you know that's never happened to anyone

Bonjour, if you look back in the thread, both of us have posted pix ... I haven't posted any here lately because I haven't bought anything. But I've been getting invites offering champagne & other goodies for Fashion's Night Out, so maybe I'll have something to report soon :shifty:

The typical French wardrobe for me would include:

A navy/white striped tee
beret (cliche but love)
Chanel bag
A creme blouse
Repettos

cream wide legged pants
white wide legged pants
grey wide legged pants
(all jersey but they look cotton)

camel colored cotton pants

white and black printed leggings
(jersey)

Black soft georgette top with black and dull gold embellishments.

Oh forget it :'-/ They don't ship to Europe...I'm so upset.
Does anyone know nice online stores that ship to Europe?
Topshop,...? I'd be grateful for advice!

My color palette is almost always black and red (with its variation in shade), with a bit of white and grey as accent. However recently I noticed that blue looks good on me, and wanting to add it as one more pop-color. However I am not sure if it will make me buy too much of stuffs.

What do you lovely ladies think about adding new color? TIA....

My updated list:

Cottony, tropical top (done, used to want to buy silk, but found batik cotton to be prettier)
Black tshirt - done
Ferragamo peeptoe kitten heel - done
Ferragamo black pump
Sunglasses (done, Forever21 and not branded, but so pretty and I will feel safer bringing it to remote jungle)
Jeans (done)
Laptop bag
Non-black leather hobo (done, Chloe Paddy capsule. so functional!!!! i take the lock and chain off, though)

I think I am done with the peep toe shoes as well. It is to replace my favorite white by sergio rossi which unfortunately has been scuffed beyond repair. Instead of buying the ferragamo ones, I opted to ask a cobbler to make a copy of the Rossi shoes in white python leather. It should be ready next week.

Now on to the laptop bag....

I think you definitely should ... I like to have a new color theme each season, but I do have favorites, so sometimes I repeat, or pick up an already existing theme ... I was shopping with a friend when I bought a pinky coral T, and she said 'Coral is your fall-back color, isn't it'

I believe I said, I prefer 'recurring theme' :ermm:

I also have lavender/purple, greys, a particular pink or two, red, green, etc. You can have lots of color, it shouldn't stop you ...

Thanks, ta-ta. I also found myself gravitating towards brown accessories (blue and brown are kinda cute, right?).

The paddy capsule that I had is brown, my first brown bag ever. Now I am also looking for brown laptop bag, while I am a through-and-through black bag girl. How funny.

i actually rediscovered red as "my" fall color.
and appart from them i notice that i get away from my limited black/white/grey color sceme towards adding a colorful piece here and there.
e.g. today: brown boots and a blue and beige carf.

I think so ... picture a navy dress + brown croc belt

I am definitely craving something red as well. I'm thinking a red sweater like Acne showed on the runway or a simple, chic red dress. It certainly has to be a specific cheery red, not anything too vampish as I think it'd age me considerably since I already have a vamp-y look about me, hahaha (pale skin, big lips, big almond-shaped eyes, dark hair). So, for this season, I would like...

some red item
a black Equipment silk shirt
a simple, fantastic-quality black dress
a nude platform wedge (my favorite pair just broke!)
