The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #2

Oh, I think I may start doing this. I have enough new clothes (went back-to-school shopping and got plenty of stuff) that I can afford to save up for some higher quality stuff... For me, I'm always on the hunt for a good pair of flats. I wear a size 10 or 11 in American sizes, seeing as my feet are huge. It's a constant struggle trying to find appealing shoes. After basketball season I think I'll contemplate my list much better and decide on an overall list and one for spring/summer and fall/winter.

^ We have a size 11 shoe thread. Karen Hughes says she gets all her shoes at this TS/TG shop in Austin ... hey, whatever works.

If they don't fit perfectly in back, I have them altered so they do--usually removing some fabric strategically.

You want to be spending enough so it is worth the cost. I ideally want at least several years of wear for my time and trouble (and $$$) finding them & getting the alterations done right. Plus, there's no reason to be wearing unflattering pants, which is bad for morale  I just don't see it as optional.

I agree about pants morale entirely  That's exactly the kind of alteration I need, but for some reason I thought it wasn't possible because it would distort the grainline too much or something.

I called up a bespoke tailor recently and got quoted $189 for a pair of pants, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. Too bad I'm short on funds at the moment!

I am not a fan of trendy jeans anyway--most of the time people look like idiots (to me anyway--and more so the older those people are) as the whiskers and distressing come into fashion and quickly go out again. I am the only one allowed to 'destroy' my clothes.

I actually found some jeans that fit me really well, but they're from juniors brands that have nothing but trendy styles. When will the backside embellishment end? I don't want embroidery or studs or glitter back there :innocent:

The signs/colors thing is interesting. I'm an earth sign and tend to wear mostly neutrals and dark colors. I could use some "fire" in my life - wonder if I can reverse engineer by wearing more brights. :p

^ on the embellishment. I wonder if you can find plainer ones from the same labels--I wonder if what you're seeing is the buyers' selection rather than the depth of the labels?

Here's the cycle:

Fire feeds earth, so the pinks/reds/corals would support you. The blues and greens that support me would do to you what black does to me.

That explains the greens and blues I wear, I feed of them :shifty:.
Pretty interesting though :).

I am planning on going to get my colours matched sometime soon, hopefully that will help me out in the future to build a wardrobe that I will love and get a lot of use out of! I know what I like and I'm pretty sure that I know what suits me (most of the time) but it will be interesting to get a professional opinion and also have a little swatch book of colours available to reference when searching for new pieces.

Totally need to organize my wardrobe and go shopping (sales time in Paris), it's always inspiring popping back to visit this thread.

Recently acquired a pair of comfortable high-heeled black booties which hugely leveraged my wardrobe by making my jeans flattering, lol.

Been wearing n'importe quoi for too long...:ninja:

Salut Ta-ta, çava??
I always thought Libra was Air, but there is no Air in your chart??
Regardless of traditions though, I've always felt a strong affinity to air and water.

What a boost is a successful shopping spree!!
I despise indulgences and tend to go minimal when it comes to clothes shopping, but you know when you've done good shopping because it actually feels amazing.

Finally found and purchased these Joe's jeans today which I've wanted for years, and a lovely cream cashmere cardi from American Vintage (to replenish serious sweater shortage) and a bronze belt from Zara which will allow me to make use of a bunch of dresses.

Doing pretty well, hope you are too

Libra is Air ... I have no planets in Air, but I do have Libra at midheaven, whatever that means  (Sun is in Leo.)

Glad to hear of your successful shopping :woot: Is American Vintage actually vintage?

Haha no, American Vintage is a French brand, good for knits.:p
Libra in midheaven...sounds like a good thing! Good to know Libra is indeed air...what would feed/energize/overcome air? And what are its colours, would you know?

Total sales shopping necessary for winter wardrobe:

Jeans (done)
black booties (done)
sweater/cardi (done)
sweater/cardi
long skirt
casual coat
cocktail dress
evening dress

That's more than four/five but I have a minimal wardrobe, professional needs have changed, I lost weight, and many items got damaged this year.

^ Libra is coquettish. Libra is a flirt. Libra is an aesthete. (Libra is also an astonishingly vapid and shallow sign :innocent:)

Pink, Pale Yellow and Sky Blue are generally Libran colours.

lol, I take it you are a fellow Libran? ;)
Vapid and shallow...were that true for me and my nearest & dearest Librans, life would be unbelievably easier.

Here you can find out your Chinese element: http://www.astrologizeme.com/your_chinese_sign.shtml

How long does winter last in Paris? Here we can start to see the first signs of spring about a month from now, so I'm starting to contemplate next season ... I think a new skirt would hit the spot.

I don't know that I've ever known a vapid and shallow Libra, but I try not to linger around the vapid long enough to learn such details ;)

Yes I'm a water rat.:) Not sure what that means...but I know without astrology that I have a strong affinity to air and water.

Pessimistically speaking, what I'd consider winter lasts from November to April basically...six months...:( Still a long ways to go before we see much sun, so I can do plenty of useful winter shopping still.

Ugh...the vapid...yes, to be avoided for sure. Lately, especially after spending a very meaningful month in a country in strife and poverty but so rich in humanity, I've been especially distressed at the amount of cheapness, shallowness, discontent, meaninglessness, ego, loneliness, and yes vapidness in our so-called "developed" societies...

From shopping to Chinese astrology to social issues, could not be more OT.

I am a wood/rat/scorpio. Whatever that means

Anyhoo back on topic - has anyone ever had their "styles" professionally assessed by someone? I am thinking about getting that done after getting my colours done, despite having a fair idea as to what does actually suit my body type. It would be nice to have a go-to reference when shopping.

Every time I revisit this thread I want to go into my closet and get rid of everything! It's become unmanageable to this point... I'm super motivated to go in there and be ruthless...so wish me luck, everyone!

Belowen, I would love to have both my colours and style done. I have a basic knowledge of what suits me in both, but I still think it's a wonderful idea. Obviously helpful for long term investment pieces.

And good luck, two months off. I know that feeling. I did that this past fall and it was very nice to just toss stuff.

I have never had my colors done or anything else ... but I've read several books about color, which have largely confirmed what I already knew. I guess I just don't have confidence that anyone is going to tell me anything I don't already know  I'm afraid I'll feel I've wasted my money. One place I've learned a few things is right here at tFS ... people have sometimes explained the reasons why things are working for me. Like bell sleeves to the elbow balancing out a generous bustline ...
