The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #8

yup, Ta-ta. They are subeng, earring with long back a bit like Dior, traditional in my country. I always wear my hair in a bun or ponytail, guess taking so many dance classes has effect on the way I style my hair hahaha

Very pretty  What's the stone? Maybe rock crystal with diamonds??

I remember reading something about Ferragamo offering custom color combinations--leather, ribbon, etc. Are you interested in those?

I think I tell you guys every time I wear something out  It happens regularly, but typically after years, sometimes many years, of use. I do buy some fragile things, but I guess I try to keep it balanced. Something that wears out after only a year in heavy rotation I consider a fail. You can't build a wardrobe if your stuff is wearing out every year. I consider even two years in heavy rotation iffy. I am looking for 3-4 years minimum for something other than a white T, and many of my items exceed that, often by a lot. Even most of my white Ts last for at least 2 years.

wow...maybe i'm doing something wrong. i can count on one hand the number of things i have that have lasted 3-4 yrs... and it's mostly either things i don't wear very often (mostly dresses or more formal blouses) or outerwear.

almost all of my sweaters pill before the 3-4 yr mark, and it seems like it's not just the cheap ones... and t-shirts wear out, get little holes, lose shape etc...

ta-ta... teach me your ways!

Well  An important piece is that I rarely use the washing machine ... things I wear out of the house go to the cleaners. That makes a big difference. I also send stuff only when needed (i.e., not after every wear). I also don't consider something getting shiny a reason to get rid of it

I also don't buy things again that haven't worked well for me in the past ... like I've had silk skirts and pants wear out by pulling at the seams. Do you know what I mean ... not ripped, but the fabric pulls away between each stitch? If something doesn't work out for me like that, I just don't buy it again.

I believe you can definitely find items that will last 3-4 years even at high-street brands and I actually don't consider that a lot. Often the most important (and obvious) indicator is material. There is more synthetic clothing each year it seems and it bothers me so much. Nevertheless prices are constantly increasing.

Eizhowa, you are full of surprises!

Mid-season sales began and I found a really nice cardigan at Weekday, it's cotton with 10% wool and 10% cashmere. This brand is really growing on me, especially some tops I already have are really on point and the new collection is great. I needed a cardigan and a replacement for a grey V-neck sweater this season and this will serve me as both. Because of a waistband I can also use it as an outerwear comes spring, so this is a really versatile choice for me.
Fashion bores me to death lately, so finding a "fun" piece is out of question. I think my next purchase will be new leather gloves, preferable with some elegant detailing.

Ta-ta, actually I can't find the description in the website, which made me believe it's a custom piece item. They do made subeng in amethyst, moonstone and other stones I am not familiar with. intestingly, most of the subeng are made in silver, as gold will be too heavy.

I think I will get this one instead http://www.shoptulola.com/collections/subeng/products/lotus-blooms-subeng-gold-dip

Ahhhhhhh I always dream to have personalized bicolore vara, but I really have no idea what color to choose. I am quite conservative in the sense that I only wear nude or tan shoes (esp with dress and skirt) or black with black pants, in order to maximally elongate my mini stump of legs. You have shoes in animal print, right? How do you pair it so as not to make you look shorter? (or maybe you are a very tall lady?)

do you happen to hang your tshirt while they are still dripping? i used to do that, and the weight of the water changed the shape of the tshirt.

Here are my purchases:

Did make some pics of the pants, but they didn't translate well compared to real life.

My updated wishlist:
- black wool blazer
- long coat/blazer without sleeves

I agree with Jinadaze, you are indeed full of surprises eizhowa! Why are you growing it out? Want to look like Kate?
Your cardigan looks really nice Jinadaze, cozy.
Those are gorgeous floodette, really like the lotus shape.
For what kind of things do you use the washing machine fashionista-ta?

Nymphaea, I really like your purchases, they are so cohesive.

And the first pants are just amazing.

Great purchases Nympaea, 'Paint it black' started playing in my head while looking at them.

I love all your purchases Nymphaea! All of them look like things I would wear so I might be biased

Thank you all!
That's a great song Fewormany to have in your head! After having seen that black outfit with the green scarf, I'm very enthusiastic about a statement flash of colour in my outfits. Going to keep my eyes open.
I've been quite extreme in my list of items I want. I have a folder on my desktop with all the pics of items I like/want/need, so I can look them over each day and determine which things I really like and others that I liked at first sight but after while not anymore. I've got some subfolders for items I maybe want during the sale, but I already know/feel that those items probably will never be bought by me. Another subfolders contains items that are so to say 'in the pipeline' like that leather backpack I like and a summer dress that's been made atm by a tailor. Another subfolder has some maybe items, and the last folder are items for the future from for example SS16. It really helps me to focus on the best and therefore most loved items and creating a cohesive wardrobe with items that hopefully will last for years. ^_^

I am not tall (I like to think I'm 5'5", but that is best case scenario), but my leopard shoes are  I don't worry too much about height. Being short is far from the worst thing that can happen to someone  I also think you can act tall. There are short people (like my mother! 5'2") who I don't really think of as short. If I want to feel tall, I wear heels  I really love statement shoes of all heights. Many times my clothes will be background, and the shoes make the statement.

Nymphaea, nice purchases! The sweater looks like it has a nubbly texture? Those folders sound like much more trouble than Pinterest  Whatever works

I use the washing machine for lingerie (though anything with an underwire I wash by hand), loungewear, PJs, towels, washcloths, the dogs' beds, rags (I barely use any paper towels), etc. Clothes I wear in public (not counting the front yard--I consider it a private zone regardless of the fact that people on the street can see me :innocent:) go to the cleaners.

PS I like the lotus design too! And especially the stem/leaves detail in the back is nice. They remind me of some rose studs my mother wore when I was little.

Nymphaea i absolutely love your purchases! looks like my wishlist. and it seems you've invested in really good quality materials and pieces. what brands are your go to's for trousers like that? :flower:

^Thanks! I would say that the last couple of years Acne is my brand for jeans and now also for suit trousers. Most of the time I don't really like what Acne is sending down the runway, but browsing once in a while their online store, I find simple pieces with good quality that are really nice. But concerning the suit trousers I keep my eyes open for other brands. Imo there should always a few percentage of elastane in the trousers fabric, it makes the fit and comfort so much better. In my experience you have to try a lot of trousers to find the brand that suits your form the best.

Thanks! The sweater is woven with hairy yarn, the same composition of the long Acne Raya vest I have.
Ah yes, I use the washing machine for the same things but also for jeans, cotton blouses/shirts and wool knitwear.

I know you didn't ask me, but I just wanted to write a reply for you anyhow :flower: I have spent a lot of years worrying about what I could or could not wear, and limiting myself because I felt like my body-type didn't allow me to wear anything other than black pants, a-line skirts and heeled shoes. Of course I think one should dress in a matter that shoes of your best features, but during the past couple of years I have discovered that I "can" actually wear a lot more different styles than I had expected.

All I am saying is, maybe try a new cut, new colour or new style once in a while, since you can be surprised, and often I think all of these "barriers" are mainly in your own head  At least that is how it was for me.

flodette: I really like the gold flower earrings!

Nymphaea: Love your purchases!

I decided to stop coloring my hair red, because I realized it was a bit silly to admire other peoples blonde hair when I actually am a blonde myself:smile: All my favourite women are blondes, so yes, it is partially because of Kate:wink:

Fashionista-ta: You wouldn't be the first to think something along those lines. When I was in London a man in the supermarked asked where in Scotland I was from. I told him Norway and he said "Oh, then there must have been some straying!"
