The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #8

eizhowa, you may want to also consider maintenance costs ... I'm assuming you will probably need to have it cleaned at least once a year, so you may want to find out how much & how long it would take. Here furs have to be in cold storage in summertime ... but maybe that's not true in your climate?

Maybe you can try to get a higher-quality wool sweater in the sales and see if it wears better for you?

Umh... I do? I am hoping to make ut through 1,5 seasons without having to dry clean. I get a job in 1,5 years:P. It is always cold here so I don't think storage is important...

I am not excactly sure, but some of my in-laws have furs, and I don't believe that they keep them in cold storage during the summer (lets face it, Scandinavian summers are just not that hot)..

I've fallen completely and utterly in love with a red biker jacket. Somewhat out of my comfortzone, but I can really see how it would jazz up my entire wardrobe.

My only concern is how well it would wear. I am a bit afraid that it will look dingy too fast and that wearing it during rainfall will stain it, as have been the case with my green suede jacket. Does anyone have experience with coloured leather and the durability?

Well, we all know white is magnetized to coffee, lipstick, and whatnot  I think mine is washable, but it has been to the cleaners at least once, maybe twice. I am fairly neat, but sh!t still happens ... and I'm assuming fur cleaning is a different beast, like leather. My cleaners sends suede and leather out to another city, so it's like a 6-week ordeal for me. I'm assuming fur would be similarly complex, but I don't know. I would think maybe it goes to a fur specialist?

There's something in the air here with statement jackets  betina, I think leather should be much better than suede. Suede really doesn't like to get wet. What did you experience with your pink jacket?

Well, there is nothing like a statement jacket  they just seem to spice up things in a whole other way, than other kinds of statement clothes, IMO. Apperently I have enherited my mother's love for jackets and boots - very practical due to the Danish weather - I could pretty much wear little jackets year round - as outerwear during summer and over a sweater during winter, to keep warm.

I am glad to hear that leather should be better, I might take the chance then. I don't really know with the pink jacket - the colour was a lot lighter, and it had a few stains already when I bought it, but I have no clue how they got there, since I wasn't the one at fault, so to speak.

eizhowa If you have the money and you don't mind sacrificing the other thing you could do/buy with it, I'd say go for it. I would however avoid coffee, non-white cats and random stuff like that, like ta-ta said. Buying a white coat is brave, white fur is taking it to the next level (or insane, whatever you prefer ).

betina I've had a grey/green leather bomber a few years ago and it didn't fade faster than non-colored leather. I treated it to make it waterproof though.

---

I've been in Copenhagen the past few days, and even though I see lots of great stuff I just don't feel like buying anything.
Quite refreshing, wondering how long this will last.. :ninja:

Treating the leather sounds like a good idea. Also what I've seen with bags leads me to believe all leather is not created equal. I remember the classic Coach leather was really bad about spotting in rain ... I knew someone with a rain-spotted red briefcase. But I've had lots of leather bags myself that tolerated rain perfectly well. I try to protect them, of course, but the odd few drops never seem to do any harm. I do remember at least one wallet I had that managed to get rain damage--I guess from my pulling it out of my bag to run into the store

I'm assuming you wouldn't deliberately wear it in the rain, but you're more concerned about the unexpected?

PS I admire your restraint, Fewormany! It's such a great design city ... I expect I would be tempted by Royal Copenhagen, but maybe tabletop is not your thing ...

Come to think of it, I once dropped my green leather CdG wallet in a rain puddle. It survived without staining, but I'm not sure if that's just luck. :innocent:

^ Their wallets seem to be quite nice ... it's a challenging category, and theirs are always interesting.

Thank you for your input, you guys! I would treat it with colonil before use of course (thank you for reminding me, fewormany :flower: ) - sounds really crazy about your CDG wallet - impressive!

I haven't had the problem with my bags neither, but since I mostly have black or at least darker bags, that is not quite the same, I feel. I wouldn't wear it in the rain on purpose of course, but in Denmark you never know. I wasn't planning to wear my suede jacket in rain neither, but once I got caught in heavy rainfall, on my way to work on my bike, so...

Come to think of it, I used to have a red wallet. It got darker from wear but I guess a wallet, which you touch a whole lot, and is lying around in a bag, is more prone to looking worn.

- BTW, I am really impressed, Fewormany - I go to phases like that from time to time as well - usually not for long enough though. How did you like Copenhagen?

When my white cat gets stained (think gasoline) we just put it in the shower and scrub it with dishwashing soap. Are you saying I can't do that with my fur coat?!

I already had an image in my mind of your working on the coat with baby shampoo

I use my own shampoo on the dogs in an emergency, but I have read it's the wrong pH for them ...

Haha:lol: I tried shampoo on my cat. It didn't work at all, so I had to use stronger stuff... I was terrified my cat would try to clean his fur and get poisoned and die:shock: So in the shower he went.

 What you can and cannot do with fur and/or leather!

Speaking of the wedding dress, I finally received it today! :woot: It is extremely beautiful of course, but I am not satisfied with the fit - the bodice is too big for my frame even though I didn't lose any weight, so it has to be altered. I know a good tailor and she should be able to fix this for me, but I was really hoping that the dress would fit me perfectly, since it was custom made and therefore more expensive. The main problem is underbust and bust area (it is strapless after all, these are such a pain in the as* fit-wise ), without wearing the blouse with it it could easily fall off when dancing.
I was told from their CS that they had added the smallest bit of room to given measurements to ensure that the fit is not too tight as that would be worst case scenario. Even when dresses are made to order, they still may require minor alterations to perfect the fit - this is the case with almost all design houses.
Anyway, my best friend aka maid of honour and my mother comforted me that this won't be a problem for the tailor and I think I'm fine now. :Pink: I already packed it up in a nice dust bag with a note "touch it and I'll kill you" note on.

Just kidding about the latter.

Btw, I hated the packaging. :ninja: So Asos-like, very basic - just a cheap plastic hanger and transparent polyvinyl dust bag, all packed in a regular box . They should act up on it definitely, it makes a huge difference IMO.
I can totally relate, especially for custom made clothes. Fortunately it's a bit too big, because (most of the time) you can have it taken in easily. Love your note! ^_^ When I order something I want it to be not only nice 'inside' but also on the outside. Some packages have already almost lost their shape when arriving, so annoying when they don't use sturdy packaging. Love it when they use delicate wrapping paper and a nice bow or even sometimes a nice sturdy storage box. It's all in the details imo.

I am seriously losing my mind over their customer service. I mean they are quite nice, but they don't cooperate at all. I showed the dress to my cousin today and while she couldn't stop admiring it, she immediately said the bodice has to be too big for me. I tried it on later to measure it, finding out that the underbust measurement is almost 10 cm (3,5") bigger than it should be!! I mean, how is that even possible, my measurements were provided even before the order has been completed. Same with the bust and waist, but the difference there isn't so huge. I sent them an email explaining everything and they said I should provide detailed photos of the measuring tape against the garment laying flat. I did so, but measuring the bust and underbust area is really difficult, since the dress is obviously curved there and most importantly - it is low back and I am not MacGyver.
I have a feeling they haven't even took the underbust measurement into account. Without this it could not be a made to order dress. Otherwise I could just order a regular size discounted dress that is closest to my size, save a lot of money and call it a day as opposed to paying a higher price and now I have to add the costs of a tailor that will take it in.

Sorry for the ramble ...

^Don't appologize. Bring it on!:flower: I want to hear how it works out. 10cm is a lot!

To be continued! I really want them to cover the tailor expenses for me and think that's the least they could do.

I completely agree. 10 cm ... that's a whole freakin' high heel! You could even put one in the picture  I think you're going to need an accomplice to take these pix.

If it were 1/2", then I could believe the argument that they want to give you growing room. 10 cm, that is nothing but one giant mistake.

Yes, I agree with fashionista-ta, that's not custom made! They should at least cover all your expenses when making it fit properly. Very annoying, rant away!
