The Acne Thread

Went to the Dermatologist for the first time ever yesterday... the appointment was a lot shorter than I thought it would be, but I did walk away with three prescriptions-

Brevoxyl- Skin wash, morning and night
EpiQuin- Lightening of hyperpigmentation
Minocycline- Acne in general

Anyone use any of these products? How did it go?

^I don't use any of your products (I think I might have already used products with the same ingredients though), but my doctor told me that you should first focus on getting rid of the acne and then lighten hyperpigmentation, otherwise your skin gets messed up. As long as you have acne you still get new hyperpigmentations which makes "fighting" it useless, that's what he told me and it's quite reasonable imo.

I've still been using the spearmint and it's working pretty well apart from one or two small spots now and again. I am getting fed up of drinking it every day, though...

I read a lot of good things about shea butter helping with acne and scars (not just hyperpigmentation, but also stretchmarks) so I bought some. Been putting it on problem areas for three nights in a row (along with drinking spearmint tea) and today I woke up with amazingly perfect skin. Smooth, clear and glowing apart from a few stubborn hyperpigmentation spots. I'm very pleased and hope things continue this way, but with the stress I've been under I'm worried the clear skin will not last very long. :(

If your skin is not sensitive you could rub half a lemon on your face and leave it over night,

I heard about this lemon wonder. I've been smearing it over my face.

How does it work? Does it get rid of pimples? Am I suppose to leave it overnight?

I don't have a steamer I just boil the kettle then pour it into the sink with a few drops of tea tree oil. Then put a towel over my head and lean over it. It is a lot cheaper.

That's the best way. Remember not to put your face too close to the water as it is not healthy for the skin. Put your face about 15cm above the water and don't steam your face longer than 20 minutes.:flower:

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm definitely going to give steaming a go, maybe 1-2 times a week. Hopefully it'll get rid of those blackheads on my nose. My face is all clear except for those darned blackheads that just won't go away (squeezing them was a mistake, lol--I just ended up with a couple pimples and I never really break out there).

Oh yeah, I was searching Google for people's experiences on steaming and some people says it can break capillaries and sometimes make one break out... why/how would steaming result in any of those things? :/

I would just like to thank the first person that came up with the whole "no dairy" theory. To update, I'm convinced that it was affecting my face. I don't break out with any cystic acne anymore! My face doesn't feel the same, it feels smoother and i'm just waiting for the few marks that i have left to continue fading......it's a relief....and i've told people, but noone believes me...but who cares?

I have tried steaming before above either a bowl or sink of hot water with some lavender oil in it and a towel over my head. It did not do anything at all to my blackheads, but it made a small difference to ordinary spots.

I tried steaming last night for about 15 minutes. My skin felt so soft afterward. Hard to breathe during steaming, though. I wish I could go to a sauna room now...

sorry for answering so late.
Yes, it gets rid of spots etc. and tightens your pores, my mom swears on it and she had always had fine skin.
You should try leaving it for 10 min, if that's okay go to 20 min and so on, your skin might burn a bit and redden when you do it the first time.
But: if you're prone to scarring make sure not to use it on any wounds in your face!
Hope that helped :flower:

Okay, I've just done the worst thing. I picked. At this point, what's the best thing I can possibly do for my skin (aside from not touching!)?

Do you have Bepanthen or something similar? Put it on your face and wrap polythene film around it, leave it on for as long as possible. Or do the same with vitamin E oil.

Ok heres something I tried:

I tried the oil-cleansing method but differently, I used Molton Brown rose oil on my skin and massaged it in thoroughly. I filled my sink with steaming hot water and added a few drops of tea tree oil. I put my face over it but not on the water of course for the steam. I then waited for the water to cool down, and put my cloth in the water and squeezed the water out and put it over my face for the steam and to cleanse my face several times, then left my face to dry and left it at that.
It has worked so well and my skin is very soft and lots of spots have cleared out.
