The Acne Thread

The hydroquinone that is used to bleach acne scars has been banned in many countries as it has been linked to skin cancer.

^^Really?:woot: I hope so. I haven't tried any medical creams yet, so Skinoren is my first. I've been using Cleanance K for few months now, but I didn't notice any progress:doh:.

I'm sceptical about the effectiveness of Skinoren alone. I've used Skinoren twice. First time I was prescribed it with oral antibiotics. My skin cleared, but I think it was mainly due to the antibiotics. Soon afterwards my skin started getting worse again. This time I tried to fix it with Skinoren alone, but it didn't do much good and I had to get antibiotics again...

Isn't Skinoren antibiotic? That's what I was told. And a doctor prescribed it to me.

It is not an antibiotic, it is azelaic acid, but it works like an antibiotic, kills the bacteria, plus it fights hyperpigmentation. Try it, I think that you'll be satisfied after (at least) month of use.

I think the only thing that helped m skin was cutting out soy (it gave me cysts) and drinking this type of tea that's supposed to help with digestion.

^^^
Yeah soy breaks me out SO badly. Which is really horrible because my favorite pasta is made with soy.

I hate that :( There are so many things I love to eat (I really love tofu...) but I can't now really because it breaks me out. I think there's something else but I can't quite pinpoint it. I know dairy does to a certain extent also. I think the deal with the soy is because it mimics the structure of estrogen?

I have super sensitive acne prone skin that can get dry patches. I use a gentle cleanser (like cetaphil) only in the evenings along with Retin-A.

I've recently started using a lactic acid over the counter face peel that works fabulously! Believe it or not acid peels suit my sensitive skin much better than any grainy exfoliater could. I'm a strong advocate of them now - nothing will get your face smoother!

I have a question though...I once read that a breakout occurs something like a 2 weeks after the pore has been blocked/infected, meaning that if you use a cream and break out the next day the zits are really due to something you did 2 weeks ago?? Anyone else heard this??

skinoren is very comedogenic, it made my face break out even more
I would recommend you zinerit if it's sold where you live, my dermatologist advised that to me too

I use the same routine and it is actually really smart routine to do.
Cetaphil is very gentle on skin.
If I think using a moisturizer would be helpful too.

Hey ok the blaQ tea actually worked to keep my complexion clean but then made me break out!
So I brought Clearasil ultra pore cleansing pads and its so drying but it helped my skin go back to normal. note to self: stick to your old routine.

So products I would reccomend would be Clearasil Ultra pore cleansing pads , it really really helps ^_^

Can anyone recommend a good homemade spot treatment? I'd like to try something natural on a spot I have on my cheek. It's nothing huge or devastating, and I'm entirely open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

If acne is a allergic side-effect, than what foods, if any, give people acne as their allergic reaction?
