The Acne Thread

I haven't been offered a repeat,my doctor suggested I then move onto the antibiotics and to see a dermatologist as well. I came away feeling really down cos she made me feel like my skin was worse than I had thought. I went in on a 'good day' and she implied it was awful lol. I think the antibiotics are to stave off future infections, because I only have to say the word spot and BOOM! My face flares up lol

I tried all kinds of antibiotics and birth control pill and gel such as differin, duac, retina. they are all work but only for couple of months and then I have to go back to my dermatologist again. However, I started the acne regime at acne.org, and no new acne formed. the best thing is that you can use recommended products in any stores.

OMG you guys. My skin this week has been HORRIBLE. It was so clear for so long and now BOOM! WTF is up with it? I think it might be the weather/AC. UGH!

What are the best of the best products you've tried? I need H-E-L-P!

Are you stressed? If you haven't changed anything in terms of diet/skin regimen, stress could be the problem. Stress is the worse for me, it's something that I can't control and it drives me mad. It's also infuriatingly catch-22. You have stress and then the acne pops up and then you get even more stress and then...more acne. Try to relax with exercise, eat berries, take vitamin c and drink camomile tea etc.

I don't know what will get rid of your spots, but I'd suggest you aboid touching your face so not to spread anything. It could just be hormones?

I've been loving the Mario Badescu drying lotion lately. Just put it on at night and in the morning the zit is gone:) Just make sure you don't put it on anywhere else than on the zit because it dries the skin alot.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, yes, I've been stressed lately because school is coming right up. I didn't even think of that.

I'm going to try and calm down and see if it helps.

i know a lot of people here are more for the fancy products :o but i think acne mark fading peel by Neutrogena (if used in moderation) works pretty good. and by "in moderation" i mean if you don't use too much (in quantity)..or abuse the product..it's good to use daily, but i haven't used it in years

^I find neutrogena products quite good in general, good value for money.

Has anyone ever been on the antobitics-Tetracycline?
Only I've started them today and I hate starting tablets cos i can never see the results for a while :(

I've stopped taking oxytetracycline and now I have some really horrible looking spots.
I think I need to make an appointment to get some more fast!

Also, I want to try and take DIM & royal jelly.

Do you guys think it's genetic? Like did your parents have bad skin or do they still have it?

It's not genetic for me. My mother has flawless skin and both my parents had no trouble with acne. In another note, it is interesting that acne is more prevalent in industrialized nations as opposed to developing countries.

I have like no idea about my genes since I'm adopted, but I'm glad I sorted it out..

guys i need help. my face is so dry, except on the bridge of my nose where it is oily. i don't really have zits. but the dry skin flakes off (gross i know) and forms bumps. i have no idea what product to use. can anyone recommend something? not too expensive, i don't have money to blow.

I always use locobase when I have dry skin, works really well for me..

I think mine is a little genetic because my mom suffered from acne quite a bit when she was younger and still has enlarged pores (one advantage is that oily skin gets less wrinkles though!), but hers was never as bad as mine (she didn't really have inflammations like I do).

I've been on antibiotics for a long time now (first a month of tetralysal and now 3 weeks on minocyclin) and I thought it was clearing up a bit, but now it's worse again. I did wear make-up one day, which I usually don't, but it was mineral and I never broke out from it before, yet somehow I have some extra pimples now...
It's really getting me down...

For me, it's not genetics... my parents both had clear skin throughout; however, my sister and I have to deal with ACNE :( I think it's more based on diet and the environment... back then they had less junk foods... a better atmosphere.. nowadays High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated Oils are in EVERYTHING... so much crap we put into our systems... or it just might be hormones

I don't know, but ACNE is such a horrible thing to have to deal with :sigh:

Yes back forty years ago there wasnt fast food everywhere to consume so people were healthier, leaner, looked better, and now sugar is in everything, and caffeine is also bad for couperose, easily reactive and reddened skin. Sugar is an inflammatory. I wouldnt say I consume large amounts of sugar hardly at all but I do have sensitive skin and I've started cutting out sugar and caffeine (this one slowly) to see the feedback on my face. I have some areas that are red patches that I'd either love to have IPL on a regular basis, or perhaps they'll quit being so noticeable with the abscence of sugar and caffeine. Lets hope!

^ Funnily enough i've been cutting down on sugar and caffeine majorly. The other week a small amount of chocolate lead to a breakout. Not going there again; see if it has any good effects on my skin.
