The Acne Thread

It sounds like a course of antibiotics would help, the spots that occur deep under the skin as bumps are usually caused by bacteria and can only be treated internally. See your GP.

Thanks! I've been using Tetracyclin or something like that, but I stopped because of the summer. I guess, I should pick it up again. I was just thinking about trying for a microdermasion, and I don't think the dermatalogists performs those if you're using antibiotics.

I have to say taking 50 mg of Zinc and 4 8000 Vitamin A pills has really helped my skin. It is very glow-y now. Yay!

Does Zinc and Vitamin A help against acne? And it that amount not above what you can take daily?

Zinc and Vitamin A. why is it that its always the popular acne remedies that seriously never seem to work for me :ninja:

Flaxseed oil is amazing INTERNALLY. and rooibos tea is SO AMAZING. seriously everyone out there give rooibos tea at least ONE try topically and internally for one week along with internal flaxseed oil ;)

Flaxseed oil is only good for women mostly though, right? :/

My skin was starting to look fab and now not so much. Hmmm

i had a terrible acne. and nowadays i have only some leftovers on my face, which is a blessing after so many years of fruitless battle. i treat this leftovers with La Roche Posay Effaclar A.I blemish cream and it works perfect... i am clean all over my face like i used to be couple of years ago.

Does anyone have any remedies for post-acne? What treatment do you find are the best for treating nasty scars?

I simpled my routine to the minimum, just a fragrance free cleanser and toner before applying. At night (when I had taken my make up off and was sure that had probbaly removed the last traces of zineryt) was when I would use more 'elaborate' products, like a face mask which I can't live without. I didn't moisturise at all cos I felt like that would make my skin oily but I think as you continue using it you'll feel more confident applying your usual lotions and potions ;)

If any of that makes sense at all ^_^

I've been off it for 2 weeks now and I only got my 1st 'real' spot this morning, and the antibiotics still arent supposed to have taken effect yet, yay!

I couldn't work out whether it's best to put Zineryt on before or after toner/moisturiser/cleanser. If Zineryt after, might the chemicals in the products block the Zineryt a bit so it's not absorbed as much? I would have thought putting Zineryt on after washing with cleanser/exfoliating would work best? Then toner and moisturiser. Ughh it's so confusing.

On top of that, I've nearly run out of the stuff, and my skin is starting to look bad again with quite a few new spots. Very irritating. Is using it too much bad? I apply it several times a day. Hmm.

Will my GP be pissed off that I used it up so quickly and want more?

So many questions...

^ I don't think your doctor will have any problem with you getting a repeat so soon. A friend of mine who was on it before me went to her doctor to ask for it and was given it there and then, even though she had no visible spots on her face. She came off it after the second bout and has got the most perfect skin ever.

And my own doctor told me that I could go back on it should I want to stay on it for longer :)

But you're right about it being so complicated. I hardly wore any make up in the 5 odd weeks I was on it cos i was scared it'd all rub away. It will get better!:flower:

I'm starting the zinc supplements today... 50 mg a day. I thought my skin was doing okay before, but it's breaking out again and I don't know what else to do. Sigh. I wonder how long I have to wait until I see improvement... :/ acne sucks.

Mousquerader, zinc works if you have hormonal imbalance...if you don't then the zinc won't do much for you. Is the zinc chelated? What type of zinc is it?

anyone suffering from acne should really check out roaccutane. i had such bad acne. Went on that and it was all gone in a month. I've been off it now for a year and not one pimple has popped up. i get compliments on my skin now all the time coz its so clear. i really recommend it. the only side effect i got was dry lips...

Roaccutane should be a last resortthough, it has many side-effects that are common for example; peeling skin, hair loss, dry & sore eyes, headaches and as you said, dry lips but there are more too.
I advise you seek other less evasive treatments before going on Roaccutane.

My skin has been really good lately.

I just ordered 8 "ClearSkin" items from Avon b/c a friend in my Speech class sells it and "made" me. LOL! Anyone have any experience? I've never used Avon products before.

I got Cleanser, Scrub, Treatment, Peel.

I don't know for sure if I have hormonal imbalance, but I've heard that if you get chin/jawline acne that could be an indicator of hormonal imbalance, I certainly get acne in those areas. It's worth a shot I think... No, the zinc isn't chelated; it is zinc gluconate. I think my skin is doing okay now, but it's too soon to tell if it's because of zinc.

Zinc is an anti-inflammatory. I don't think one must have a hormone imbalance in order to reap its benefits.

^^^^agreed...Zinc is good for acne regardless of whether you have hormonal acne or not. Also, for those that do have hormonal acne, and are female, Spiro works really well. In fact I'm like 98% clear, and have been on this for 4 months. its fairly new drug for acne and it has minimal side effects--if any. of course, always read up on any drug you take first. this had been a miricle drug for me, and is NOT like Accutane and is not an antibiotic. It works by inhibiting teststerone in woman (which cause the majority of acne in woman) its NOT a birthcontrol/hormone pill either...all I know is that this is the only thing that has worked for me and has been really easy to use

^ zinc didnt really help me. I repeat : rooibos tea helped me and so did flaxseed oil. Also a chinese medicine 'watermelon frost'

Ew my face is all broken out again. It seems I can never get my skin completely clear. I take 500 mg of tetracycline every day and use a Biore blemish-fighting cleanser but my skin still doesn't look very good :(. I'm wondering if my body has become resistant to the tetracycline since it's an antibiotic and I've been taking the same strength for about 2 years now.
