The Acne Thread

wear something like a bandana to absorb the sweat or just shower as soon as you are at home :)

Okay well I actually I do walk at home I just do it in my neighbourhood. And I do shower right when I get back to the house so it just sits for like umm an hour or so

I think its ok, but I would put a bandana or something to avoid the sweat to go on my face skin ..

Okay my friend has horrific acne and shes only really young she needs a quick and cheap solution any ideas?

Its hard to tell because we arent dermatologsts and we cannot see the skin of your friend. I would suggest seeing a dermatologist for that. As for me, I ve tried a lot of product you can buy at the drugstore, but none worked..

Has anyone tried African Black soap before? The unprocessed kind that is lumpy looking. It's supposed to help clear blemishes.

Acne Photo-Clearing (ClearLight)

Has anyone had this done maybe?

Apparently this method, is one of the fastest and safest mathods in acne therapy. It is applied in 8 treatments over 4 weeks and it produces results up to 3 times faster than any other therapeutic option. ClearLight technology achieves over 70% clearing of inflammatory lesions in up to 1/3 the time of traditional methods - and without side effects.

It is suitable for all body areas, and each treatment takes 15 min.

www.curelight.com (then press the ClearLight option) :smartass:

 Sorry, I actually did write a response, but it got lost on me.
What I would recommend is this cream called Differin. It's perscription, so you would need to speak to your doctor, but it works really well. My younger brother uses it; I steal it occationally, and it is definately effective. Also, maybe you should start seeing a different set of dermatologists? Good luck, and not to worry- you're not going to have this your entire life!

Differin works quite well, imo.

Well, ask yourself this one question, and you will see where I am going:
"does ANY other animal continue drinking milk after they stop being breast-fed? And this is not even milk from our own kind!" - the answer is of-course a big NO
 Love alba

Kitties drink milk, and don't seem to suffer from acne :)))
but i agree, milk is disgusting, the very smell of it - *bleurgh!*
cultured milk products on the other hand taste really good :)

Help!

Holy Crap! I woke up this morning with a huge zit on the side of my chin. My dermatologist can't see me until Monday! It's almost the weekend, and I have plans. I cannot go out looking like this! I'm in desperate need of advice here. How can I get rid of this horrible monster of a pimple (or at least make it smaller)?!

try putting a bit of toothpaste on it,i do that and 90% of the time they dry up and go smalller

Are you sure that is a good thing???

Go to the drugstore and buy a topic lotion ( like neutrogena) in a carrying format like this:

Try to buy a product that contains Benzoyl Peroxide and your pimple will dry away in a day or 2. And after you could put some makeup over it if you dont want the red spot to appear.
Hope it helps, good luck

well of course its better to go and get creams to fix it,but ive found out that if i wake up in the morning with a big zit b4 school,i put toothepaste on it and it dries out and goes down ,just a personal experience tho

Thanks for the help, thus far - really appreciate it! I put a dab of prescription Duac on it - we'll see if that helps. I just hope it clears up soon  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! In my heart I know it isn't a big deal...I'm just a freak about my complexion.

Hmm, I think that this is one of those topics where everyone's experience may differ a little, but I'll try to add my two cents too (but of course...)!

I've tried lots of different things - I used to get small, little bumpy acne as a teenager, and now in my early twenties, it focuses around my period. The problem is that Diane-35(a type of birth control) has been known to increase stroke, blood clots, etc. and is generally not that effective as b-c. So, in conjunction with Depo-Provera, I use Proactiv. The reasoning (for women) in terms of using birth control is that fluctuations in hormones, which are directly related to your monthly menstrual cycle, can cause breakouts... and so, esp. with Depo-Provera, there is no spiking or increasing of the Estrogen in your body, unlike other birth control...

The only problems with Proactiv? Sometimes the Overnight lotion overdries your skin. I try to counter act that by putting a very thin layer on my entire face, and a bit more in the T Zone area. For moisturizer I use the oil-free, PBA free moisturizer from Kiehls or, if I run out of that and don't have time to go to Holts, I use Neutrogena water based moisturizer. Both are amazing and neither clog the pores!

For exfoliation, the Proactiv face was does have a bit of "texture" to it, so that helps, but once a week I use the Estee Lauder Thermal Refinisher - its AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING (and I've used Peter Thomas Roth, La Mer, Kiehls, Chanel, La Prairie, and a few others) and wow! the first time you use it you geta nice healthy looking "glow" (i know it's cliche...but there you are)... AND to help the few little blackheads that have planted themselves in the tip of my nose region, I used a little tip from the Hometreatment Thread - using salt on damp skin, rubbing in circles. I do that ever 3 or so days for the last few weeks and it's definitely helped.

To get rid of some redness, esp during the winter when my skin is finicky, I use Retin A to counteract the redness and lately I've tried Mederma, which is pretty good...I prefer Retin A, but Mederma is easier to get.

Anywho, that's my two (or fifty!) cents! Hope it helps someone else out there!

Hipkitten, steam it and squeeze it out.
It still might end up red, but at least it will be flat.

So, I have basically never haad pimples my entire life. (I'm almost 20) I may have had little red spots, but I never understood the squeezing thing people always referred to.

Now I have an ENORMOUS pimple on the side of my nose. It was originally just a normal pimple, but eventually the tip turned all white, and every time I washed my face, it'd rupture and lightly tinted liquid would come out. My rooomate suggested I put alcohol on it, and I did, to no avail. About a week later, the white stuff turned a little yellow and kind of crusted around it.

This became excruciating not to touch, because it'd graze the other bit of skin on my face and it was enormous, like, maybe .5 cm high, yellow, and crystalized.

One morning, I woke up, groggy and swiped my hand across my face and broke the thing off. Finally I got sick of it and decided I didn't care if it scarred as long as it went away and it started bleeding, madly.

Now, it stings if I put pressure on it, but it's essentially a really big dark brown scab. It doesn't bother me as much, but I still think there's a pimple remnant lurking under there.

Is this, like, the advanced stages of pimple no-no's? Am I doomed to have this pimple on my face forever? WHY WON"T IT GO AWAY? IT"S BEEN LIKE TWO WEEKS!!!

The only other time I've had something like this (as in white bump with pus oozing out) was on the shell of my ear, which lasted almost a month before my parents decided to pop it. Then I left it alone and it went way in about a week, seeing as I was lying unconscious during most of that week for unrelated reasons. I have no qualms with small scar on my ear, but is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

I generally have pretty clear skin, I hardly think one enormous pimple that lasts forever constitutes as an acne issue, but I'm tempted to call up a dermatologist and ask if they can laser my pimple off. Not as if I could afford a procedure like that anyhow, if it even exists.

I know people who had their acne disappear after using african black soap. I am using the neutrogena microdermabrasion system and it so far has made my face smoother, more even, and all around amazing. A friend pointed out that I have a glow. I can really tell the difference and it's only been five days! I highly recommend it.:flower:

http://soap-please.com/store/home.php is another link for unrefined shea butter products. it is Daybreak Lavender Farm- an organic farm where they handmake everything. no black soap though. i swear by their rassoul mud facial soap.

for the above site, my friend who swears by it wanted me to add this for you:
Hi! I love black soap. I'm also pretty sure that anyone asking about it is talking about african black soap. My understanding is that "black soap" is made with a high percentage of plant butters or oils(shea, cocoa--depending on what is local to the region) and ash from native wood or plants. I order mine from http://www.agbangakarite.com/. It's a really pure black soap from Togo and I like it because it uses mostly shea butter. I've looked at some brands sold is stores, but they're scented and don't have a very high percentage of shea butter. If you order it (I go for the 1 lb sample), know that it's not scented, and it looks weird, like a block of mud or something. I microwave mine to melt it and then press it into a pan, let it cool, and cut it into bars. It's all totally natural, and the company that I mentioned above is really cool--you can read about it on their web site.

yay for black soap!

oh--I use it for face, body, and hair.

I think I may just go pick some up now.
