The Acne Thread

By the way, if anyone is a female with acne, they should look up PCOS... it's Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (not cancerous or anything, so don't worry!) and 1 in 10 women have it (anyone can have it and at any age). It can be a factor of acne (because it usually involves your hormones being screwy) as well as other health issues (like diabetes and heart problems). Some of the symptoms include acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism), excessive hunger, weight gain, irregular menstrual cycles, and so on.

You'll just have to google more on your own, but (there's a lot of information at the soulcysters.com forum), this is what I'm 99% sure is the cause of my acne because nothing else is working to clear me up 100% and I have a lot of the symptoms. It makes sense.

So yes, please look that up with you're a female struggling with persistent acne at all. This might just be your real problem. I think it'd be a lot easier to treat acne once you know what mainly causes it.

thank you so much for mentioning this. I'm waiting to get an ultrasound to see if I do have PCOS. I've had symptoms all my life but it didn't make any sense until I broke out like mad since January that I went to the doctors and ask for a blood test. The blood test showed heightened levels of testosterone, a major source of acne. (hence, the sterotype of teenage boys) I don't think I've ever been so excited for an ultrasound or to start birth control.

^Yay, I'm so glad to hear that you're getting treatment for this. Let me know how it goes. If vitex fails (and maybe other holistic methods I might try for PCOS) I just might go down the birth control route as well even though I'm fearful of the negative side effects.

I've only been taking vitex for about a week now and coincidentally my period came on the day I started vitex. I know it wasn't from the vitex because the vitex had *just* arrived in the mail and I hadn't taken it yet. Hah, I guess just being in the same room did it. Before this one, the last period came in mid-January. Can't wait until next month to see if it comes back when it should.

hey so i posted my recent problem here and got two product recommendations but i dont know where i can get it here in canada.

i already asked and i dont want to be rude but providing where to get or how to make the recommended product or treatment would be vital information.

its not just on my instance either some people here recommend products here but dont provide where they get it and i just ask myself 'okay but how do i get hold of it?'

when i do give suggestion i try to tell them how to make it or where i got it.

basically the point of this rant is: if i dont know where to get it, i cant buy it.

I know it's different for everyone, but I started BC a month 1/2 ago and felt no negative side affects whatsoever. And I was SO nervous starting them because of all the horror stories I'd heard. Two weeks in I did have an initial breakout which is only now calming down (with the help of Ziana--really good stuff, BTW).

But with the BC pills, right from the start my skin was about 70% less oily. So I know it's working to sort my hormones out, blocking the androgens, etc.

Anyway I just wanted to share my positive experience so that you don't think, based on what you've read, that BC is all bad :flower:

emailme. Try drugstore.com

á la Balenciaga you should try TCA Cross at home it will get rid of acne scar in a week. i dont think topicals will do anything to fade acne scars

a la balenciaga, I recommend using a 10% glycolic acid (also known as AHA) like one by the Alpha Hydrox brand which you can find at Walgreens. Dan Kern's 10% AHA+ Lotion which you can order online at danielkern.com is also a good choice, which is what I'm using and loving now. I've also used DDF's 10% Exfoliating Oil Control Gel w/ 2% Salicylic Acid (find at Sephora, Macys, & other dept. stores) and prefer that, but it's a bit pricy at 48 bucks. DDF also has a line for hyperpigmentation, so you can check that out as well. Also, a good sunscreen with SPF is vital as to not exacerbate present acne scars. I personally wouldn't try Mederma on my face because I don't think it's formulated to be noncomedogenic.

, thanks for the input. That does make me feel better about the BCP. I'm happy it's working out for you. What brand of BC are you using? That seems to be different for everyone, too.

Daniel_, BC stands for Birth Control Pill.

I've thought about asking to go on Yasmin but I'm not too sure. I re-read my perscription for my antibiotics last night and I'm on them till at least December :(

i used lemon juice to wash my face, but there is not much difference, i am quite dissapointed with the result. maybe i should mix it with something? honey?
