The Acne Thread

Went to my GP again today. I'm on new antibiotics (oral - minocycline) and benzoyl peroxide gel for skin. Best thing is I'm on a waiting list to see a dermatologist. Thank F***

Not sure, I'm going back in six weeks for a checkup. If there's no improvement I'll be moving up to something stronger with any luck :)

Urgh, is anyone else's skin super sensitive to the weather? Last week it snowed and today it's 70 degrees F where I live, so my skin is so confused! It doesn't know whether to produce more/less oil and I'm just as confused-- I don't know if I should moisturize with a heavy cream or a light lotion. So frustrating!

I don't think mine is too sensitivie to weather, more to sleep and water. My skin is always better when 'exposed' to sunlight, which is why going on holiday is great ^_^

Nah my skin is bad with the weather. I have two moisturisers a oil free one for most days and a thicker one for when it is cold, windy, snowy etc.

i used lemon juice to wash my face, but there is not much difference, i am quite dissapointed with the result. maybe i should mix it with something? honey?

I tried that too, and I didn't notice anything different. Instead of washing your face with lemon juice, try drinking it instead. Every morning, I drink a glass of hot water with fresh squeezed lemon juice and not only does it detoxify your body, it will dramatically improve your skin. Try it for a week or two and see how that goes. You know what they say, your skin is a reflection of what is going on in your body. Hope this helps! :flower:

It makes so much sense. But unfortunately it didn't work for me, I went vegan for a couple weeks and drank tons of lemon water, and didn't see a difference...

I find that drinking hot lemon water makes my skin glow rather than helps with breakouts i definately didn't see any improvement in that area , but i would still recommend it.

It would take a bit longer to see real improvements.. Maybe try just the lemon water for a couple of months instead of a couple of weeks?

yes, it does take a while to see results, but it's well worth it. just make it a habit to drink your water with lemon every day...and little by little, your skin will start to improve.

I need some advice. I got this large pimple a few days ago on my upperleft forhead. Its large and deep, and there's swelling but no redness. It really hurts b/c of the pressure inside so I tried to pop it last night, but nothing came out. I went to bed and woke up this morning and the left side of my forhead is swollen. There's no discoloration, just puffiness.Of course the actual pimple hasn't changed, despite applying benzoyl peroxide and salacylic acid to it. So anway now I'm trying to get the swelling down with hydrocortisone and ice, which isn't really working. Don't know what to do about this pimple. Anyone know what kind of pimple this could be, and how to treat it?

I need your help, guys. Here's the thing: I have very reactive skin, it gets easily red and flushed due to change of weather, stress, etc. I also get small pimples (bumps) on my forehead and cheeks. I think this condition is called rosacea. I'm new to this because I started to notice this about a year ago and thought it would go away. I was wondering if anybody here can recommend anything? thanks in advance.

I am now trying La Roche Posay Effaclar range (K and AI).
Lets see how that works.

adorkablejulie, La Roche Posay have a range for Rosacea....try googling it :)

adorkablejulie, I don't know much about rosacea, but I've heard finacea helps with that (as well as acne). Check that out as well.

Meh. I just wanted to come here and reiterate just how much acne sucks. My chin is all fugly now, what with all the scabs. Grr. I also feel like my skin is even more sensitive/irritated now even though I don't think I've been doing anything different, so I think I'm going to stop using any medications and just use water to wash and moisturizer/sunscreen afterward. Let's see if my skin feels any better... I hope I don't break out! If I don't, that would be amazing. I'd love to be able to have a minimal skin care routine... I'm jealous of my friend who just uses lotion and only gets like a pimple or two every now and then (she has acne as well... or used to have it pretty bad). My brother had mild acne and when he quit using any skin care products, his skin cleared up beautifully. Hopefully if I have the same results it might mean I grew out of acne and it's just the skin care products that was aggravating my acne.
