The Acne Thread

A 2% BHA solution, applied every night, really did the trick for me. It's definitely worth giving a try.

Beta Hydroxy Acid, or more commonly known as salicylic acid.

i would like to introduce u guys this brand.....kinda good i must say...~

Naturalis

i've been using their scar treatment because of my ance scarring.....i must say, it's really good...my scars appear to be lighten even less than a week of application....

100% satisfied...~! :flower:

Heres a tip for everyone who uses any kind of hair product like hairspray or gel or..things like that. Wash your hair before u go to sleep. Having greasy hair that rubs against your skin all night= not good. :D

my skin- last resort

Hey guys i am so fed up with my skin
I have bad acne- not terribly bad but bad to the point where it drives me insane. I wear make-up everyday because of it. I have read everything in here about acne. I have seriously tried everything there is - proactive, the pill, other antibiotics, every face wash on the planet, gels etc
IS there anything you can help me with? I drink water, eat fruit and veges and exercise. My mum is buying me zinc tablets today so hopefully they might work.

Anyone have any advice?

Since it sounds like you've already covered all of the basics.... I suppose it's either genetics, age, or a combination of the two. At which point, I don't beleive that there is anything you can do.

You mentioned that you wear makeup everyday... perhaps try going a couple of days a week without it? Let your skin breath a bit?

I dont wear it everyday but if i go out i do... Its genetics i think

my mum reckons my dad had bad skin into his 20's!!!!!! I'm 18 so it should have finished by now
I hardly ever see girls my age with bad skin

Maybe you're doing too much to your skin? I find that if I use only a few, gentle products my skin looks great; if I mess with it too much I break out. Most importantly, don't use products that dry out your skin! I've had good luck with Shu Uemura's Light Cleansing Oil.

Have you tried monthly facials or microdermabrasion? Facials keep my skin glowing and having a series of microderm is always a good idea if you're prone to breakouts.

Also, have you tried switching make-up? I went through a period around age 21 where I was constantly breaking out. It wasn't until I switched make-up that it stopped. Or perhaps you have another allergy?

Good luck :flower:

since doing make-up artistry i have learnt to be really careful with my skin and i dont use products that dry my skin out. and all those things i said above i have done them over a long period of time if you know what i mean.
I cant afford monthly facials :( i would if i could but hopefully soon i will be able to

hehe and also i use different make-up and have tried different foundations so its not that either.... its weird because my face feels better when i have foundation on - its actually really soothing ..... has anyone else ever noticed that????

I will probably go to a dermatologist soon but i'll see how my zinc works out hehe

I went to a dermatologist for about 4 months and a cosmetician still helps me.
The first thing they all said was "Don't touch your face as least as you can!". And that really helps, too.

My face looks so much better now!!
He gave me some pills and cremes for using only in the morning, and one for the evening/night. It needed time, but it really helped me.

Iam cleaning my face now just with products from Clinique, they don't have alcohol or something in it.

Good luck! :-/

oh, listen! for many people DAIRY causes acne. cut out all dairy - including milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc, for a week and see what happens. also a low fat diet will help.

girl, just go to a dermatologist and get on accutane. its so worth it. your face will peel off and look like hell for 5 months, but it really works. I know so many people that have had great results. don't put up with acne. its a stress no one needs to have.

I used to use acne medication but the doctor told me to stop and only wash with water. I never had bad acne, but the water thing has really been working really well, but I guess it depends on ones skin type.

Every morning try drinking boiled water with a slice of lemon - this will help cleanse your system.

A clay based mask might help once a week.

Try not to get stressed as this will make your skin break out - yoga might be useful. (Headstands are good as they bring a fresh supply of blood to your face!!)

Try to avoid refined sugar, processed foods, wheat and dairy and try to eat as much raw food as possible.

Drink heaps of water and get lot of sleep.

Try not to use harsh drying proucts as your skin can try to balance it out by producing more oil thus clogging your pores.

Try organic skincare which is very gentle.

Your foundation could well be the cause - I used Mineral foundations which are actually good for your skin - Jane Iredale is my favourite and there are loads of reviews on Makeupalley.com. I used Double Wear by Estee Lauder for ages and my skin kept breaking out - as soon as I swicthe dit calmed down alot.

This is a good website for make up and skincare advice too - www.cosmeticscop.com.

Google the Acne Cure by Dr Perricone - I have heard lots of good things about this.

The zinc supplement is great but also add a Vit. B complex and a Vit C.

A visit to a dermatologist is a must though if you can't sort it out yourself or maybe you could ask your Doctor to do a series of blood tests to check for any hormone inbalances, Polycystic Overy or the start of Diabetes which mild acne is a symptom of (not that I want to worry you !!)

Try not to get too down about it though as life is far too short and we always think it looks worse than it actually does !

I have also heard that taking iron will work. And a more economically friendly hint...which i think is effective...make your own facial until you can afford getting it professionally done. I used to boil water and drop a mint tea bag in it. It worked really well on my face, though I don't have acne. But it made my skin look nice and alive! But for me, my skin does look its very best when I do nothing to it but wash it. I use a very mild bar of soap from neutrogena. I have never used a better product.

I had really bad acne too. Went to a dermatologist, she gave me antibiotics and cleared it all up. Seven years of acne, and all it took was two weeks of pills! But seriously, Sonia Dakar has some good products for scar repair. I also use a calendula toner and Cellex-C hydra 5b. best of luck to you!

Hi there! Like some of the other posters I too recommend a trip to the dermatologist - as everyone's skin and acne are different! I have had persistent grade 1-2 acne fortunately the mildest kind since I was 19. It has never been bad enough for me to go on Accutane - however if it got worse I certainly would use it never mind the side effects. I used to take various antibiotics in rotation - as after a while your skin gets used to them and the acne returns. It's important to bear in mind that different antibiotics work for different people - so you need to find the one that works for you. As I am getting older and my acne is less cystic (boil like) I am tending to stick to the topical solutions - I love Retin-A 0.01% and 0.025% Gels which you apply twice a week at night. There's also a retin-A and antibiotic combo gel which is great too - you must be careful not to be too heavy handed though or you'll get red and sore skin. For regular facials and skincare I rate Murad. I don't use anything specifically for acne from over the counter pharmacies as these products are too harsh and drying and my skin (like many acne sufferers) is fine, delicate and sensitive. My acne isn't effected by diet or water consumption but by everyday stresses and the dreaded hormones!!!

yeah mine isnt food related either and i lead a pretty stress free life- well i dont let it get to me cause i'm cautious of my skin.... I have a retin a gel that i was given to by a doctor that i use each night

thanks everyone- i have more to write in reply but i will do tmrw
