The Acne Thread

I would suggest going on birth control for the cystic acne since it's from hormonal fluctuations. Otherwise, treat with tea tree oil and DO NOT touch them - AT ALL. Let them heal.

I would most def look into birth control like Yaz to help. I used to get like 5 cystic pimples before my period and now I haven't had one since I started bc.

I would suggest this: http://www.thebodyshop.ca/en/skin-care/skin-care-best-sellers/tea-tree-blemish-gel.aspx I used to use it to zap the cystic pimples and if used before it gets too big, it can make it go away within days.

Really ? That's great, but how often you used it ? and how bad was your face before using it ? and for how long did you use it (time)? Great to see that someone had a good result :)

If you started having acne problems when first using it it's most likely an initial breakout, which 90% of acne treatment products such as differin cause. It speeds up the exfoliation rate of the skin so any clogged pores/pimples that would eventually come to the surface all come up super-quickly at first. I've used differin in the past and have started using it again, I don't get much irritation unless I use harsh products with it but it does make my skin a lot more sensitive. Works though!

Yes, i started having acne problems when i started using Differin, more than that, it got totally out of control  Now i'm using only those soaps against Acne, but it dries my skin so much. The problem with me is that i do everything as possible to make it disapear, which it makes my face worse.
Thanks for the advice :flower: Anyway, i don't know if would use it again.

I used to have acne pretty bad and tried a thousand different products, with varying success. I'm no longer on any product from the doctor and my skin has pretty much cleared up on it's own, however I keep getting a fairly stubborn spot on each of my cheeks, and I've never suffered on my cheeks before, used to always be my chin. aI vaguely remember reading somewhere years ago that the location that you got spots could be linked to something,e.g on the chin was hormone related, and the cheeks was related to the diet. I have no idea where I read this or when, but does anybody know if there is any truth to that? Because I would like to have clear cheeks again!

The cheeks could be diet related or at least that's what I'm guessing based on where my food related breakouts tend to pop up. And my food related ones are also stubborn. They look like they could pop easily (not that I'm actually trying to pop them) but they stubbornly remain on my face for days. I think it still took a couple of days after I stopped eating the most recent food that caused it but it finally went away after that.

Anyone know any good ways to get rid of acne scars? Normally, my skin is very clear and acne is very mild and rare, but what little I do get has been scarring recently. (Most are probably my fault.) It's odd because I haven't had any issues with scarring before.

That is exactly what I have! The two I have right now (one on each cheek) have been there for maybe 3-4 weeks. Not good at all. My work shifts have changed dramatically since new year and I'm not sleeping half as much as I used to,so I put it down to some extent to lack of sleep (my skin is really dependent on enough sleep). I can't even pinpoint what food it could be causing it. Other than I'm not a big eater, and I just tend to grab stuff on the go. More fruit and veg it is!

I would try to think of anything different you might have been eating in the last couple of weeks. I know the last time it was buying a different brand of the same type of cheese I've eaten before. I also get that from certain ice creams. It's weirdly not even all ice cream, just specific flavors from specific brands.

Does anyone have any ideas for this! I have tiny little bumps under the skin that you can't really notice but they are all over my forehead and my chin and I can't get rid of them! They then turn into spots not all of them though! I've work out that the simple cleansers and moisturisers help my skin the best and ive just strated taking omega 3 but I just can't get rid of them! I've tried Clinique and benzoyl peroxide products but they don't help and exfoliation and honey doesn't seem to help either. If you have any product that would help that aren't expensive I would really really appreciate it!!! I drink 3 litres of water a day and I do eat pretty healthy. :)

Hi! To me it sounds like a fungal infection - not acne at all. Fungal infections look very similar to acne but will NOT respond to your usual acne treatments. I developed this once after using antibiotics for a prolonged period for acne (minocycline). It threw my body out of whack, as antibiotics do, and I developed the fungal infection. It looked like many very small bumps sitting just under the skin. Some turned into spots, most didn't.

Cheap solution? Buy an antidandruff shampoo like Nizoral, or anything that contains ketoconazole in the strongest concentration you can find (usually 1 or 2%). You can find this in a drugstore/chemist. Lather it and apply to your face morning and night everyday (be consistent) and leave it on the affected areas for a few minutes before rinsing. If your skin responds to this treatment, you will know for sure that it is a fungal problem, and not acne at all. If the problem still persists, it would be best to see a doctor for a more permanent solution.

If you do some googling, you will find quite a bit of info on this!

Hi!
I also use differin in the 0.1% solution and have been doing so for about a year. Like you, I was VERY apprehensive at first as I didn't want to make my skin worse. I couldn't take anymore! Surprisingly, I experienced very, very little irritation - it basically only made my skin slightly sensitive for a short period of time. For months and months now, it has no adverse effects at all. It definitely DOES help your skin - it eventually significantly reduces pore size and creates a nice, even skin tone. It completely refines the texture of your skin. I highly recommend it.

I am also currently on Spironolactone and this is, without doubt, THE holy grail of acne solutions (providing the causes are related to increased production/sensitivity to androgens). It's the only thing that has fixed my acne 100% with relatively minimal side effects. I've lived with acne for 20+ years (I'm 34) and am only too happy to try and help others, so if anybody wants to ask me any questions about Spiro, fire away. I've also had great experiences with Duac and Differin, as outlined above. Also, I've used Diane, which works as well as Spiro, but the side effects sucked.

Thanks a lot for your experience. :flower:
It seems that there are a lot of divided opinions about the use of Differin, anyway i'm going to the dermathologist next week.
To be honest it really scares me, using differin again, so i wouldn't use it on my own.

I didn't experience an initial break out at all with differin, but then I was also on Spiro at the time. Have you tried duac? It's also very good.

I heard that acne on the cheek area is hormonal and the ones on foreheads and the chin are from what you eat. Has anyone tried Fish oil capsules? I've read a lot of positive reviews about them.

IF you have really bad acne (Im talking cyst) THE best you can do is go see a dermatologist and maybe start to be on accutane it works I never have acne now
If you have a regular acne but that still wont go away you can be on antibiotics for 1 or 2 months and ull get special creme like effederm and cutacnyl5% these are the best cream ever and theyre so cheap
I do hear a lot of doctor prescribing the pills right away I dont really agree with that but for some people it does make wonder
I would recommend gym on a hard level like ropes and running when u feel your cheeks are gettin red its when things will start to get reall good your body is gettin read of all the bad stuff your skin is producing new cells
also go see a dermatologist or specialist to get a deep peel with vitamic c or some laser too

^What kind of antibiotics? Do I have to go to the doctors for them?

yup you can ask your regular doctor or take an appointment with a dermatologist directly u will always need a prescription for antibiotics

he will define the period ull need to use it 1 to 3 months max
if its regular acne it will go away really fast
this is the name of those antibiotics tétracyclines (doxycycline, lymécycline, minocycline)

Really? How is that acne on different face areas have different causes? Never knew that before  My face is pocketful of acnes esp around the cheeks & chin areas. I'm using the Eucerin Dermopurifyer which targets at eliminating acne. However it didn't really works  I'm not sure about the Fish Oil capsules.

As far as I know it is not really accurate what you've written. Actually, acne/spots on the cheek area are food issues/allergies and stuff, because it comes right from your liver. At least I was taught that the condition of your liver and areas influence your cheeks' skin. What is more, your chin is influenced by hormones, definitely not cheeks. That is why women USUALLY get spots before menstruation on chin and nearby areas.

But this is what I was taught by people who help me go through my severe allergies - and in my case it is true. My liver is damaged thanks to chemicals in food products and when I eat something bad I immediately get acne on my cheeks.

I don't know where you've read it, for me it is very misleading and I would love to see your sources, maybe there is something I still don't know and can educate myself.
