The Acne Thread

Worked for me.

Derm's tend to become obsessed with anti-biotics. They'll work for a certain period of time, but then your body becomes immune and you have to change. I was on anti-biotics since I was 13 and I'm practically 19 now.

I read up on acne.org (really good site, check out the forums, thats where I learnt a lot of stuff) and realised that one of the biggest forms of acne is hormonal acne (which obviously wouldn't be helped by anti-biotics).

I also learnt that being on anti-biotics for such a long period of time (as well as Roaccutane) would have stressed my liver quite significantly, so I also started to take Milk Thistle, which has also helped greatly. (Some people have done liver and colon flushes and rave about it, though it just seems a tad extreme for me at the mo).

This, combined with really simple products for sensitive skin, has helped rid me of acne :) For years I was terrified of using non-medicated cleansers and moisturisers, but I'm glad I finally took the plunge to make the change.

^ So what do you use Becky? I have sensitive skin as well. It's hard to find good products that do not cause an allergic reaction.

Antibiotics mainly control the inflammation- the redness. Years of use will damage your internal organs and cause yellow teeth.

Fish oil capsules can help with inflammation, and aloe vera gel with the redness.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that I've been using Clearogen products for 14 days, and I'm having a lot of success with it so far. I'm too lazy to go into detail, so you can go here (a thread on Clearogen at acne.org) and read up on Clearogen and why it's so special in addition. There are some users who also use Clearogen and log their progress their from time to time; I have logged my results on that thread as well. (My username is Calla Lily there.)

i had acne and i tryed like everything! I used proactive but that did nothing but burn!! I used heaps of other brands, so many i wouldnt remember the names of them all! i would also put sea salt on my face and tried lots of antibiotics my dermatologist presribed.
Nothing worked but then i got a prescription for this stuff called Roaccutane. My acne wasnt that bad and normally they give it to people with extreme cases (because it is so strong) but my dermatologist was really nice and i just said how i really wanted to go on it ( my sister had used it and her skin was clear as! )
Anyways after about 2 months of taking one pill each day, my skin was practically clear, and now it is, only after 6 months!
Roaccutane worked for me, and i thought nothing would. It does have its side effects though, but its different for every person.
i definatly reccomend it!

Can anyone suggest a good moisteriser for ACNE MARKS??
I don't really have alot of pimples, but i have a lot of acne marks left over from my bad habit of picking my zits (that sounds kind of gross, right)
I heard neutrogena is okay but doesn't have a lasting effect..a confirmation on this?

They do give to other than mild cases. Mine was not extreme, but they gave me accutane as nothing else helped.

after trying everything for my skin, including proactiv, expensive creams and moisturizers, i decided to downsize and just use my regular dove beauty bar to wash my makeup off, st ives anti-blemish wash and st ives daily facial moisturizer AND I'VE STOPPED breaking out (and i had little blackheads, whiteheads and cystic acne sometimes) i remember i did this in the summer and my skin had cleared but the temptation of expensive skin creams promising to do wonders always drew me back.....but no more!

and those three things are cheap and easy, but it just feels like you're not doing enough, but maybe it's because you do too much?? honestly, my skin was clear all through my teen years and i never did anything, only with the lancome creams, and estee lauder makeup removers did this happen....sad it took me so long to figure this out

:)

I just use the 'Simple' products - the cleanser, toner and hydrating moisturiser. Thats it. I've found its the best routine for me, after years of using acne products which ruined my skin and scrubbing away with St. Ives.

Is your face the only place to get pimples?

Or can you get it on your scalp and back and other places too?

^you CAN get pimples everywhere: arms, back, chest, neck, scalp, belly, even on your bottom. It's most usual on the face, back and chest.

I think I am going to win this "where can you get pimples"-competition... I've had a pimple on my knee!

Man, I cut back on oily foods and I still get acne.

Plus, can you treat scars with something so they disappear or are they there forever?

What do you mean by oily foods? I think cutting back on something like McDonalds food is good, but fat (especially good in oils) is essential for a healthy skin.

As for scars, it depends what kind of scars they are. I know there have been different creams mentioned in this thread. You can also get a laser treatment to remove them. They can also fade by themselves.

I think that's normal, it even happens to people who don't have acne when they shave their legs.

Wow, I have never gotten real zits when I have shaven my legs. I get those red bumps, but this one was a real zit. I am glad I don't have it anymore.

I would be interested in reducing the acne scars too. My dermatologist says that my scars are not deep, and they will vanish with time. But is there a way to make this process quicker? I know I cannot get to laser treatment, but is there a cream that REALLY works, or any other options?

No you're not! I'm going to win. I have had pimples on my breasts and more recently between my leg & vagina. And they're huge!!
