The Acne Thread

^ I already have told my mom everything you listed, but she is kind of narrow-minded when it comes to me.
Your third point (the benefits) is in her eyes nonsense, as the pill enhances the risk of breast cancer.
Oh well, I'll do it anyway *sigh*

he already thought of that too, funny you mention it ^_^
She's stubborn, if she thinks this or that is wrong/right, that's the way it is.
The cancer thing is very important to her (her mom died of cancer), plus there's osteoporose... And the sexual part is in her opinion undeniable, she's afraid of me seeing the birth control as a "ticket to sex" (altough it is definitely not).

awww if you're feeling really rubbish about your skin though, can't she understand that? Explain to her how down your skin is making you feel. I'm lucky that my mum was realy good about letting me try lots of things to get my skin better.

I second this, having a bad skin can make you feel awful. But trust my words, it will not last forever :flower:

has anyone here tried Duac? its a its a cream with benzoyl ( spelling?) peroxide in it... i have been on it for about 3 weeks so will let you know how i go

^I've been on Duac. In my case, it didn't help a lot (esp. after I've stopped using it, the effect was gone immediately).
Watch out, it bleaches your clothes etc (it bleached my fav t-shirt)!

^yeah i had my Cath Kidston duvet cover bleached by some acne face cream the day i bought it. Was so grumpy. Damn acne.

yeah my cousin went on antibiotics just some mild ones and her skin is great now and i wanted to go straight to them but the doctor was like " no try this first" she had no idea what she was talking about

I do think your doctor might've had an idea. I was first given some cream, then mild antibiotics, then accutane. Antibiotics aren't as simply as you think, that's why doctors cannot always prescribe them like candy (and if they do, I would change the doctor to be safe). Your doctor has a reason to not put you straight to antibiotics.

As for your cousin's case, you are different persons. How do you know she got the antibiotics ASAP? Never compare your medical care to someone else's, it's no worth as you are different.

does being on the computer too much or lack of sleep cause acne?

I wouldn't say it causes acne, but it is not good for your skin, especially not sleeping enough, which creates stress, which is definetily not good for your skin.

no she didnt really listen to us.. this has been a problem for years and we have tried all the creams.. she didnt see my skin as much of a problem and did not listen.. what happens when you go to a free medical centre.

^i second that. finding the right one was a long way for me (took me over 3yrs), but it's the right choice ;)

Question:
I usually break out right before my period and was wondering if there was anything besides birth control that might help balance my hormones during that time of the month.. (or anytime really lol)

Yeah, I'd like to know if there's anything out there as well. I've been told I have a hormonal imbalance or something so I break out when it fluctuates.

Also, I dont' know if anyone else experiences this but when I don't care about my face and not analyize it the zits aren't as visual/emphasized. I don't know if that even makes any sense. But I've been trying to stick to a healthy diet and drinking lots of liquids. It helps along with exfoliating to keep the blackheads down. (big difference vs. none at all)

For those who don't want to go on birth control, try Evening Primrose Oil.

I took 3000mg (you can buy 1000mg capsules from Holland and Barratt for UK-ers).

Evening Primrose Oil stabilises your hormones and it definately worked for me :)

sounds good, I feel like taking pills is better than rubbing sth on your skin :flower:
