The Acne Thread

Has anyone tried Proactive? My cousin (my age) swears by the stuff. I recently started breaking out for no apparent reason, and I want to give this stuff a try before visiting the dermatologist. Does it work?

We actually have a long thread on Proactive :flower:

Discoloration question- I have discoloration from acne and wanted to know, has anyone used Neutrogena's skin balancing product? The one that Gabrielle Union talks about in the commercial? Just curious, I think I may go get some. I want to model, but they aren't gonna take to kindly to my skin at the moment.

I've tried various methods of skincare and the only product that seems to work is the Grandpa's brand soaps. That probably sounds odd... but it works! The soaps that work best to keep my skin clear are the pine tar soap and the thylox soap. They really are "wonder" soaps. ^_^ If you're worried about the soap drying out your skin - don't be! I've used it all Winter and my skin has not been dry. Of course, you still need to use a good moisturizer... but the soaps are great.

^ I agree. If you have acne scars then the sun is very bad and can make it look worse. (I have also said this before in this thread). Depending on which country you are in, the sun would be good for your skin. For example, in England yes the sun is good for your pimples, in Australia no the sun is not good for your pimples as it is too strong...

Well, I think that the sun just makes it worse. It makes you all sweaty and oily. Even in England I think it just makes it worse.

^ Are you putting a liquid foundation on because that is VERY bad for your skin and that's probably where you got your small pimples are an allergic reaction because your pores are clogged from your liquid foundation.

Get powder foundation from jane iredale which is a mineral makeup company and very very good.

Too get rid of those pimples, you need to:

- stop putting that liquid foundation on to let your skin breath.
- go to the pharmacy and get a non-clogging cleanser and moisteriser to use twice a day.
- don't put anything harsh on it as you stated it is not pimples and more of an allergic reaction to your foundation...

thanks!
ooh i never knew liquid foundation was THAT bad...will it make my pores bigger as time passes? =S

as for foundation would ID bare mienrals be as good as jane iredale?
the thing is i have dry skin that is why i like to use liquidie things also its so dewy and glowy but i guess in the long run its not good eh?

ive been using cetaphil and i fidn it its not THAT good as so how many ppl say how good it is. my freind tried GLYTONE acne, has anyone eheard of it i kind of want to give it a try

Really, my friends and I with British sun made it better... My GP in England also said that it helps....

From what I have heard from my dermatologists (I have had about four of them during the years) and learnt from personal experience, the sunlight has a very positive effect on my skin. I've also heard this from various other people.

Yes the sun dries out your skin. It also helps your skin produce Vitamin E (I think?! or A I don't know!). My GP also told me that sun exposure in moderation helps acne.

I have had acne for a while, have been to the family doctor a lot and the dermatologist a couple times (and have been referred to another one recently). My doctor says there is risk of acne scarring, its already starting to scar a bit. So I have two questions:
-What can I do about acne scarring
-What is a good moisterizer for skin with acne? (I like cetophil as a cleanser but not sure how good their moisterizer is)

BTW, I am using clinadoxyl get (which makes my skin really dry) and an antibiotic, min cycline (or something like that..)

The moisturizer depends on your skin type. There are different skintypes with acne. I myself have a very sensitive and dry to begin with, and I have noticed I should not do anything drastic to my skin in order for it to be well. I use one of those very moisturizing moisturizers made by a drug company and sold only in drug stores, you know those "basic creams". They work the best for me.

I think the best thing for you would be to ask a dermatologist about this. That way you will know what to use as the wrong choice of product can cause damage.

Yeah, I am going to discuss it with the dermatologist, but my appointment isnt for monthes and because of that stupid clinidoxl gel my skin is really dry and peely.
My skin is really really sensitive. Its mostly combonation, but like i said its been really dry latly

Then I'd opt for something by a medical company. Something very moisturizing etc. I would stay away from using all those "acne moisturizers" which promise to kill the bacteria, as those usually only make your skin more irritated.

Thanks for your advice :) I am not sure what you mean though - what type of medical company? Do you mean something that is sold in drugstores or not?

Yes, I am meaning those basic creams they sell at drug stores. I apologisize for not being the best person to explain it, but I am not quite sure if the word drug store is the right one, as in the US etc they seem to sell make-up and whatnot too -- but in short I am meaning those shops which sell you prescription medicines. You see, English is not my first language :)

The product I am using is from a Finnish medical company Orion. I know these companies vary from country to country, but I do believe every medical company has some kind of basic cream. Ask the pharmacists about what you are looking for and I am sure they could help you.

^ you mean like the basic nivea moisturiser that you can use anywhere? Also, norwegian formula by Neutrogena might be good. I was on minocycline before Roaccutane and it worked pretty well. I think it's one of the best ones excluding Roacc. so hopefully it will get better.
