The Acne Thread

^I totally agree. I think good skin and eyebrows often make the difference between beautiful and forgettable.

Even given the importance so many of us obviously place upon having good skin, I still sometimes feel guilty for thinking about it so often. How much would you guys say you think about your skin, and what amount of concern constitutes obsession? (I worry that I'm obsessing.)

I agree. If you have great skin and eyebrows. Makeup is hardly needed.

I obsess about my skin constantly. When I think my skin is getting clear. I have a major outbreak the next day. It is quite annoying.

i think about my skin sooooo much! if it's doing well, i constantly check it to make sure it is the same, and if i break out, i constantly check it to see if it's doing better, i want totally clear skin so bad (minus all acne and marks.....think "thandie newton" skin) my skin isn't breaking out now, but i want it to be free of everything....sigh

My doctor took a test to see whether my skin is this way because of too many testosterone, but the test showed that my hormone level was fine.
He said it was most likely that my skin problems are caused by psychological problems
Now I'm confused.

Stress is usually what causes me to break out also. Attacking my face after I break out hasn't helped either.

My skin went back kind of normal a week ago, it was all broken out and horrid..it's definitely stress and hormones because my period ended..and it sucks knowing that my skin will go okay and then bam, 3 weeks later i'm in the same bad skin situation again, knowing that it's inevitable is just craptacular.

im going through that! its so frustrating..i just continue my usual routine>?

I have combination skin (oily t-zone, normal/dry cheeks) and I bought this awhile ago:

I don't use it every day, maybe 3-4 times a week and I have seen a definite improvement in my skin! I have less breakouts on my forehead and around my nose. Plus, it's not an abrasive or harsh scrub, so I think it'd be okay for sensitive skin. It has 2% salicylic acid and it's about $6 or $7 at the drugstore.

Most of the time, I use Liquid Neutrogena at night, and Kiehl's Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser in the morning. The Liquid Neutrogena is a bit drying even for me, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you have oily skin.

what do you guys do for scars?

gettin rid of this would make a bigger difference in my skin more than the discolouration.

has anyone tried benzac AW or something at walmart?

its in a green box and it has 5% benzoyl peroxide which is pretty high.

btw if anyones interested proactiv worked for me. it took about 3 days. i stopped after a month.now i seem to have broke out again and i used it twiced and its getting better.

My friend had REALLY bad skin for years, and the beauty specialists kept giving her expensive products which didn't help her at all. Then she went to a skin specialist and he told her she actually had a skin disease which gave her the acne. She got some pills she had to take for I think it was four months (if I am not completely wrong it was A vitamins) anyway, they cleaned her skin up completely and now you can't even tell she ever had bad skin. I don't know if her case was special, but it certainly worked.

I also know from my stay in England - I've never heard of it happening in Norway - that doctors give antibiotics for acne. As mentioned above they only work for a short while though, and I don't believe they solve the problem.

yeah ive used microdermabrasion. i only notice a difference when i use it every 2 weeks but i did use to do it every other day.

i do it twice a week (for almost 3 months now)and my skin has no more discoloration and the scars have minimised significantly..

I got off the pill last year and broke out terribly with horrible cystic acne on my chin. I use Paula's Choice 2% BHA lotion and it worked wonders.

emailme if you are prone to scarring don't use anything with benzol peroxide, it caused some terrible hyperpigmentations in my face and my doctor told me that many people don't respond very well to BP.
If you want to try it, start with a low dose and see if it works for you but don't begin with a high dose.

okay so what should i do?

im thinking of getting the loreal dermabrasion but what about my acne?

my experiences:
MAC make up gave me acne that I never had before, don't wear it
Neutrogena works better than proactive
Hormones are your worst enemy and cause all acne other things just inflame the acne
there is a wash you can buy online called MOSOM it is the most amazing , not expensive that I used to buy from a dermotologist and it cleared up my pores it has a scent of gasoline but it's amazing
After I stopped eating meat (11 years ago) my acne disappeared

i used to have pretty oily skin that was prone to breakouts but i used the clinqiue three step system for a while and it really cleared me up. i definitely recommend it! now to soften my skin up but still get rid of the oiliness, i've been using cetaphil in the morning and oil cleansing with grapeseed and jojoba oils at night...so far, i'm getting pretty good results.
