The Acne Thread

Adding moizturizer to my routine has really helped. I LOVE *shocking* Wet N Wild Acne Oil Free Moisturizer. It's seriously the only moisturizer that doesn't break me out and keeps my skin so hydrated. PLUS it's only $6!

$6! that's awesome! i use dr. hauschka's rose day cream light and i have to spill $40 every time i need a new tube of it.:angry:

Quick question - what's a good remedy to clear acne on the back and chest? (Why do acne pop up in those places, certain foods or moisturizers?) It's quite odd (or maybe a blessing in disguise?) that all my acne is not on my face but in those areas. But it's annoying when I want to wear backless dresses or low V-necks so I'm trying to think of how to get rid of them.

Any advice? Thanks :flower:

when i do see a pimple forming on my face, i use aveda's balancing infusion, salicylic acid acne treatment and it disappears by the morning! maybe you could try that on your back and chest? it works really well, and smells good, too. it's an oily substance, but it won't stain your clothes or you bed sheets or anything. :flower:

has anyone tried the solution, Clearpores???
it's supposed to work better than accutance without the side effects and its rated pretty high on a lot of websites.

My only problem with blemishes are a few of them on my shoulders and back from time to time. The other day I bought Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion and I'm extremely happy with it. They are almost gone.

I don't know about using it on the face, because it dries the skin a bit (I put it at night and I moisturize well the area in the morning), but I've been using it for 3 days and the skin is almost clear. I must say I had only a couple of blemishes though, but they were annoying.

how much was it, and where did you find it? that sounds like something that would be good to have. you never know when you might get a yucky pimple on your back and you really want to wear a shirt or dress that exposes your back. :flower:

I got it at Boots and it was about £10. In theory is for the face but, as I said, I don't have blemishes there, just had a few on my shoulders.

Thanks for the tip on those pesky back pimples! I also find I get an occasional few on my chest as well.

Just a quick update: two weeks ago I began to use Neutrogena oil-free acne wash daily scrub everyday in the shower. And it is working WONDERS! My face is now completely spot-free and a lot smoother.

For backne I read that adding a few drops of tea-tree oil to your bath helps alot, I really want to try this!

So I just started using MDSkincare Alpha Beta Peel pads and it's working wonders! I never would have thought that chemical peels could help with acne (I assumed they were for older skin).

I HIGHLY recommend using a chemical peel because it is very very important to rigorously exfoliate to prevent acne. Most scrubs are way too harsh on my sensitive skin but these peel pads are one of the most effective skin care products I've ever used. It also helps fade acne marks and even tone! :woot:

^That sounds great, I was considering those :woot: How harsh are they?

Thanks :flower:

those peels dry out your skin, though! ;)

Not very harsh - and I have super sensitive skin. It just feels like a slight tingle, my skin doesn't even turn red afterwards! And believe it or not it isn't drying (something like astringent pads on the other hand :o watchout! Avoid those at all costs). But because it contains Salicylic Acid & Witch Hazel, I avoid any other acne products the day I use them (and of course only use a gentle cleanser/moisturizer). Anyways here is a description of it in case anyone's interested:

"The Alpha Beta® Daily Face Peel is the first peel formulated for daily at-home use. Its unique two-step system of ready-to-use pads contains a precise blend of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, soothing green tea extract, and an oil-free moisturizer to give skin of any age a healthier, more vibrant appearance. Delivers cumulative benefits and optimal results with daily use. "

They're ridiculously expensive though

i know that this isn't a good idea as sun is bad for your skin, but i find that going on vacation and being in teh sun, even for just a few hours (woulodn't recommend any more than that and rarely) really dries up my skin. it's not just the fact that a tan balances it, but it makes my skin more clear. perhaps a bit of sun would be good too...i don't know. dermatologists if they are reading probably want to slit my throat right now.

they probably do. the sun really does clear up one's skin at times, but underneath it all, it's only harming you. :flower:

does anyone have any experience with tanning to cover up hyperpigmentation? fake or real? i could imagine it going either way; it could darken the unpigmented skin and help it blend with the hyperpigmentation or it could just make the hyperpigmentation darker

A real tan would just make the hyperpigmentation darker. A got a tan and some of my scars darkened a lot.

I tanned several times (with sun tan lotion) and none of my hyper-pigmentation marks have become darker. While I was tanned they were less noticeable. Some have faded away with time, others have stayed the same. Though really I would recommend trying to get rid of the marks another way instead of hiding them by tanning all the time.
