The Acne Thread

I must warn people, use antibiotics with caution!! I know a small amount wont "hurt" you, but they get rid of the good bacteria in your system (as well as bad) which can lead to health problems. Just be sure and get lots of dairy probiotics afterward :flower:
yeah that's so true, but taking antiB for like 10 days or something is ok I think..I can't remember for how long I took it to get my skin better but I didn't have any problems with it..

I'm very reluctant to use any sort of drug for an extended period of time...The thought of long term side effects and becoming too dependent on them kind of steers me away from it...I know several of my friends who have resorted to taking birth control pills solely for their acne, and once they stop taking it, they get an extreme break out...Has anyone tried taking vitamin supplements instead? (like omega 3, calcium or zinc) And if so, were they beneficial to the appreance of the skin?

I used to only take zinc every day and my skin cleared up a bit, but now that I take omega 3 and vitamin b-complex as well it's even a bit clearer and much smoother on top. I'd definitely recommend trying whether supplements work for you before taking any drugs.

The thing I've found out at least for my skin is that using something that supposedly should make your skin better only works a little but you'll never get the great skin that you really want...the only thing that have worked for my skin is Diane^^

K tonight I'm trying an aspirin mask... only, it's baby aspirin..orange chewables. Hope that works somewhat. I added honey too so I'm going to have to resist not licking it!

I wouldn't put orange chewables aspirin on your face.. the additives probably won't be too kind to skin.

Acne.org has a whole section about hollistic acne treatment including stuff about vitamins. Very interesting with some compelling success stories.

well I did it and I think the exfoliating properties are what made my skin feel great :)

The thing is, my skin looks normal from a few feet away, but I have really small bumps in patches. they're not even red, or blackheads. anyone else have this?

I'm healed. I used to read some comments in this thread because I didn't know what to do against some weird little white points in my face. There weren't many and they are almost not visible but they made me go crazy. I found out that those are not pimples but "milia" or milk spots or whatever you call them and I guess I should drink more water but now I want to know if anyone went to a cosmetician? I heard you should not try to get them away on your own and they need to be cut with a scalpel. Contacting a dermatologist is a bit too much since I don't have a lot I guess but would my family doctor do that as well? I guess it doesn't cost anything to ask.

No a family doctor wont remove milia. These are never to be removed by yourself, as you can cause serious irreperable damage to your skin. They need to be lanceted, it's a very very tiny incision (not made by a scalpel, heavens no) and then they are pushed through the incision and out of the skin. Dont try to do this yourself, like you mentioned. I would go to a dermatologist, it's worth it.

Here is some further very informative info on milia:

I drink lots of tea, green and white to help my skin, and also contraceptive pills helps too i think, I did for me ever since I was on them

I hear you... I have some milia on my chin as well and it's super annoying. A lack of exfoliation can't be the cause, though, since I do that quite religiously. :(

I think I have some too, but on my eyelid, I used to have one under my eye, but I took it out..I think it was just fat or something

Has anyone tanned (in a tanning bed) while on Minocycline?

I just started this antibiotic again...Ive had acne for 6 years and becoming really depressed about it. I was on Accutane and everything was so great but now 7 moths later I'm breaking out again. It's hitting me extra hard because I had such great skin for the past 7 months...I feel so ugly and horrible now.
But any way. I have to go to a wedding in 2 weeks and I gotthis beautiful dress but it's gonna look 20times better if I have a litle tan but we're having an awful summer. So I just wanted to go to the tanning bed a couple of times to get a light ta but I know with Mino there's more of a risk that I'm going to burn right? The thing is that that risk is supposedly also real high when on accutane, but I went on vacation while I was on that and it was really hot and I was in the sun a lot (wearing SPF20) and never burnt...
So what do you think?

I was on mino a few years ago and my dermatologist would forbid me to stay in the sun while I was on it

hmmm...yeah. I guess so. It's just that I was fine tanning on accutane so I thought maybe...
But I'm especially cautious because it's a tanning bed. I feel you burn a lot easier in those. If it wee sunny here I would sit outside for a bit and then check whether my skin was reacting badly...

thanks for the replies. I'm just so sad that my acne is coming back and feel miserable because it's been 6 years and I have this beautiful dress and everything for this wedding and then I'll have my hair all pretty and my stupid skin will ruin everything...:(

sorry for the rant, I just don't understand why some people get acne that won't go away and others don't. It's unfair and it kills me to think about what people might think when they see my face...they don't know I've been doing everything I can for all these years to get rid of it.

I was so depressed when I had bad skin, I just wanted to hid under my bed and come out when my skin was all better, and it felt like nothing I did ever helped.. I hate it! And it kinda sucks that ppl have different type of skin because then if someone tell you that this and this stuff really works for their skin, it's not guaranteed that it will work for your skin.
