The Acne Thread

people that are ony medication or applying solutions for acne think they could eat whatever they want because the med's and creams are doing all the work! WRONG!

it's very similar to those that take diet pills, they think the pill will do all the work on it's own, and it doesn't happen like that. you have to at least workout or change your bad eating habits in order for it to function.

^ That doesn't apply to everyone.

I thought it did, but MY diet doesn't affect MY skin. The meds I'm taking are doing their job, without any lifestyle changes.

I just look at my skin in natural light out of curiosity.

Bad BAD idea. I'm depressed now. This always seems to happen when I feel things are getting better.

Why oh why do some people have to deal with this while others don't? :(

that's interesting, I always thought my skin looked better under natural light. I hate artificial light, especially the ones they usually have in shops. I can tell you my love for shopping almost completely went away once I looked in some of these mirrors.

imaginethat1107: I did use differin, it did nothing for me, but then again no lotion really worked for me...

I had acne for a few years and finally decided to take medication. My Dr's told me that it had nothing to do with food since acne is a hormonal thing.
My bro has some acne but he doesnt eat choc much nor does he eat greasy/junk food. He is a healthy eater but does not make a difference.

You can tell what causes your acne by having your skin analysed. Certain areas on your face can mean different reasons eg chin acne is mostly hormonal

add: but also some specific foods can cause acne like dairy, white carbs like bread and caffeine

I now have soya milk with my cereal every morning. I think it has helped!

Boots acne relief? Hmmm I have never seen that, is it with the rest of the vitamins etc? How much was it?

Yeah it's around there somewhere. I think it was around £4 for 60 tabs. Not too bad - you take 1-3 a day.

I know exactly how you feel. Its really a struggle, Its the worst.:(

I know

And even when you do get your skin clear, it's still all uneven and marked. It never ends.

I'm on Differin right now and it helps get rid of the tiny bumps that I have now.

It irritates and dries me out a little though, so I have to put a little extra moisturizer on.

okay because I use it at night and in the morning my pimples look even redder and larger. I've been told that certain medications do that but I'm just making sure that this is normal..

I went to a different dermatologist and she has me on a pill called Doryx, and the topical treatments Differin and Clindagel. Has any of these worked for anyone? :\

@ Sav
exactly. dont get me started on scarring.

i have been super annoyed lately because i have been getting acne on my chin. and its weird too because it gets red how a whitehead does, but it is actually blackheads. then, when the pimple part disappears it leaves an annoying red blemish behind. i heard aloe works to get rid of them, but does anyone else have any suggestions on how clear up the red blemishes and how to prevent me from getting acne on my chin?

currently i am using a product with 10% benzoyl peroxide and after washing i use a salicylic acid product with soy only on my chin.

it is really annoying though because for all of my early teen years i had AMAZING skin. now i am almost 18 and i am starting to have problems:(

Omg this is exactly whats happening to me right now  seriously it's driving me nuts. I have horrible lumps under the skin on my chin and it's looking like I've been smacked in the chin.

They haven't come into an head and it's just leaving stupid red marks which never seem to go away

My skin was perfect up until 18 too, now I've got these horrid things on my chin

Mine don't look any bigger, I'm just drier.

And I was on Doryx before but it was a little too weak, so now I'm on Doxycyclin(sp?). It's a little stronger and I have to take it twice a day.

But when I was on Doryx, it didn't really help.

It's pretty common for people to start having skin problems AFTER everyone else has dealt with it...they say everyone will deal with it at some point...

If you're breaking out on your chin, I'd say it's a hormonal issue.

ugh, seriously carly. why now? haha

and yeah you're probably right sav. i just wish it would go away. i guess i should just be grateful because its not as bad as it could be.
