The Acne Thread

what about acne scars? I have a couple on my forehead, and I read on acne.org that lemon is good, coconut oil as well, and some weird recipes too.. I tried the lemon and coconut oil and I haven't seen improvement. do you guys have any tips? that works -- :(

yeah my scars make my acne appear much worse than it is. i would also very much appreciate any tips!
also i went to the doctors last week and he said i should pop spots if they were yellow heads that i could pop. i always got told not to - now im confused!

Ok mission Spud Face has begun.. Every night ( 2 nights so far lol ) I have put potato on my face.. I have looked it up and its meant to be good so I thought I'd try it.. No huge (I only have about 2 pimples at the moment and they're healing, the rest are at the end of the healing so probably wouldnt matter now) difference so far but will keep you up to date.. It feels dry on my skin but not that its drying my skin out its just the juice drying.. Hopefully should make a difference in about a week..

I've always had acne but for the past year or so it's gotten much worse, I now have cysts on my face that take months to go away and then I have scars. I've been doing Epsom salt masks every day for about a month and now my skin is finally starting to clear up. But I still have some scarring, so does anyone know a way to at least reduce the redness/purple scarring?

^ *nods* Definitely worth a try...Just think about it, women for centuries have used milk in order to enhance the look of skin! But greek yoghurt has that added bacteria-fighting agent

I've never heard of this, but I conveniently have a tub of greek yogourt in my fridge so I'm going to give it a try! How often do you do this mask? Every night?

As for the shampoo solution, I've never tried it personally, but I do remember my derm giving me a few samples of face cleansers and one of them was a shampoo. I got so confused because I didn't know whether I was supposed to wash my hair or my face with it. I ended up just throwing it away. :p Maybe shampoo does help acne and that's why she gave them to me?

I caved and went to see a derm last month. I've been using generous samples of tazorac and benzaclin ever since and my skin looks great now, and any odd zit that pops up get healed pretty quickly. I'm sad though that I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks and I can't afford it right now. Meh, I might have to cancel. The best thing that happened to my skin and I probably can't keep up the products right now because they're going to cost an arm and a leg and I don't have insurance..

i've been using neutrogena liquid face wash and it
really did help the acne on my face.

i started using it because i lost my proactiv cleanser, and this
liquid soap was the only one available to me. gotta say
it did wonders to my face! i recommend it.

i just wanted to put the option out there for people who may feel like they have damaged or dry skin. try taking MSM and glucosamine supplements. supposedly they help with collagen production and have all these great side effects for your skin.

also, you may want to try apple cider vinegar or white vinegar on break outs. on the body and on the face :)

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, probably, but I'll ask away. I've developed acne on my chest and back. I don't know what could have caused this. I changed my sheets, have not used a new shampoo or soap. It's really irritating me because it doesnt seem to be going away. I'm not sure what to do to get rid of it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

hey, thought i might ask...
i've never really had any problems with acne although got some random spots from time to time and because my skin is really pale [maybe doesn't seem to be, but believe me, i'm white!] i always get those ugly darker marks in the place my spots used to be.

do you know what's the best way to get rid of them?
was thinking about the mix of bicarb soda + water and apple cider vinegar + water afterwards?

thanks for your help!

Yess, let's talk a bit about bacne please

I've said it once in this thread, but I'll say it again...Greek yoghurt as a mask! Not only does it feel cooling and hydrating on the skin, but the acidophilus helps counter bacteria on the surface of the skin...It has literally cleared up my skin, it now looks glowing and healthy...Of course I still have scarring (that's where make-up comes in handy), but people now ask me what my skin care secret is because they see such a huge difference :) I feel as though my esthetician is a genius!
And I know that many people don't believe that pure water makes a difference to the appearance of the skin, but personally drinking enough water daily has helped a lot.

How often do you do the greek yoghurt mask? :flower:

i also have that and can't get rid of it, so annoying

me too. i think if you're using masks/exfoliating properly, they do eventually go away. they stick around for me for about four months max. i have clear/fair skin, so it's very apparent when i get a zit, large or small. i had clear skin through high school and college and as an adult, i started breaking out just at my chin or on the sides of hairline when it was time for my cycle. finally left a scar, but it's completely gone now. the only skincare product i use consistently is lush's mask of magnaminty (i also use their ocean salt as my face exfoliator, but this is switched out with other exfoliators), which completely keeps zits at bay for me if i use it at least once a week. if i forget one week, forget it, i WILL get a pre-cycle zit that will be a honker.

k so i just got this sample bottle of eau thermale Avene redness relief soothing cream with spf 25. it really works! not only does it help keep my skin moisturized (but not too oily) but it protects it from the sun while still letting me get a bit of a tan. its been helping my acne too. it kinda tones the color of my skin so theres less discoloration.

Alright. After years of speculating my acne was hormonal, I went on Diane. It have been a month and it really shows its working. My skin isn't as oily, now a bit more dry and the size of the zits have dramatically decreased but not the numbers. So many in 2 more months...

That sounds interesting... I may try that.

I don't know if this has been discussed recently but I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I never had really bad acne, but I would get pimples fairly regularly. Someone on this thread recommended skintactix and I've been using it for about 3 years now and I love it. (The Antibacterial Face Wash, the Green Tea Poultice and the Exfoliating _____) Its extremely gentle but also quite effective. I still get a pimple here and there once in a while but in general my face has completely cleared up. (My hormones and all that have also likely settled down and all.^_^) Anyways, I would highly recommend it and its not terribly expensive especially if you live in the states. If you're from Canada like me, the shipping costs are a little bit annoying. The also have great CS!
