We have a leg/thigh thread but bums are a whole other story.....some people want them flatter, others want them more voluptuous....firmer, more toned, rounder, tighter, whatever....

They're a bit of a potential problem spot for women too.....i know that whatever weight i put on, which usually isn't a huge amount, goes straight to my bum....and it drives me crazy!!....everyone tells me how great it is to have a shapely bum but I'd really like a flat one.....lol.....

So let's put it all here....tips, what to do and what not to do, particular exercises or sports that target the butt area....how to get it smaller or bigger etc....I always hear how great lunges are for toning the butt area....but don't they add muscle/bulk ? What about trying to slim down?.....

Can anyone get us started with some good info ?? :flower:

I am pretty happy with my butt. It's nice and round and sticks out a little. However, due to me being small (petite and slim) I find it difficult to get a pair of trousers, a skirt, or a dress that fits well and shows off my butt rather than hiding it and making it look like it is non-existent. The only thing I know of to prevent that is, if you're buying trousers, to make sure the back pockets are small and stop above the crease of your buttocks. If they are long and go past those creases, it makes it look as if you have a long, saggy, flat butt as the pockets do not go into the creases and hide them. The only other thing I know that seems to work for me, is exposing my lower back (to show that I really do have curves) by wearing a shorter top and/or low-rise/hipster bottoms.

What else? I've heard squats help to give you a rounder, more toned butt that sticks out a little more, but I haven't had the time to try it myself. Even though I am happy with what I have, I wouldn't mind having my butt stick out a little more.

I don't know what to advise on losing butt. If it's all muscle, I don't think there is anything you can do if you were born with that. If it's fat, the only thing I can suggest is trying to lose weight all over.

I like big butts and I cannot hide,you other brothers can`t deny...B)
Sorry,I couldn`t help myself
It is a problem area for most women,I want mine firmer but since I`m too lazy to work out.:(If you have a pear shaped body that`s the first place the fat will go so if you want to make it smaller you have to loose weight all over.If you have wide hips like me(I`m talking about bone structure)you might not be able to get a small one at all, you`ll just end up with a wide flat butt. There are ways to hide it but if you want my advice just flaunt it.A good friend of mine has this type of body and she hates it eventhough I keep telling her it`s her best asset.

My butt is pretty much not existant, but it is so untoned. Anyone know any good way to firm, but not increase the size?

Hello guys :)

<long time lurker, first time poster:p

Here are some exercises to help shape up the rear (via thedietchannel):

Lunges
Silence_Lunges-A.gif
Silence_Lunges-B.gif
 • Stand upright.
 • Take a giant step forward, bringing the back knee down close to the ground. In one movement, bring the leg back in to the starting position.
 • Repeat on the same leg unless you have troublesome knees. In that case, alternate legs.
Hip Extensions

 • Begin on your elbows and knees.
 • Pull the abdominal area in so that the back is flat and not sagging.
 • Lift one leg towards the ceiling until there is a straight line from the knee to your shoulders.
 • Bring the leg back down.
 • Repeat on the same leg, then do a set on the other
Single Set Squats

 • Stand on a bench with one leg hanging off the back.
 • Bring the free leg down towards the ground.
 • Return to first position.
 • Repeat on same leg, then the other.
Step Ups
Silence_Step-Ups-A.gif
Silence_Step-Ups-B.gif
 • Stand on the ground next to the bench used above.
 • Use one leg to step up onto the bench.
 • Keep the other leg off the bench.
 • Return to starting position.
 • Repeat on the same leg, then do on the other.
I personally swear by the Mari Winsor Pilates DVDs (The Bun & Thigh Sculpting in particular).

you really opened it, great:woot:
One exercise I like is the following (excuse my very bad painting skills ):
Just bend down as shown and watch out that your knees are behind your toes, it's even more effective if you use a gymnastics band.
I do it 20x in a row.

Please tell me the exercise that can make my girlfriend's butt like this one!! hahahaha

I really did open it laurette....thanks for the little push

your drawing is adorable.....i do that exercise too....but i always feel like it's targeting the tops of my thighs more than my butt....do you find that too?

kalli you are so right....the grass is always greener isnt it.....i have so many friends tell me they want my butt....wtf....i want theirs!!! i don't have wide hips, that's the thing.....my butt isn't big 'sideways' (if you're looking from the front or back), if that makes sense....but it is fairly voluptuous if you're looking at me from the side.....i probably just need to get over it !!!

marfabulous glad you came out of lurking status! thanks so much for those exercises!! those hip extensions look like they'd target the area really well....i'm going to try them at the gym tonight....

xpedro i wish i could help....i want my butt like that too !!! if you find the secret, let me know....

my butt is kind of.. i dont know, i dont really pay it much attention.
ive got a twig build so its not wide, and i never really thought of it as too big or too small or whatnot
... now im worried:shock:

no no !! that wasn't the point of this thread.....don't start worrying !!

dandywarhol i'm sure your butt is great

oh thanks for the links marfabulous !!

i'm going to try them...

im am latin, so theres not much need of an explanation. id really like it to be toned, like jessica biel-gisele toned. but bum exercising is so complicated. its not like jogging or doing something that keeps me motivated or moving. that just doesnt work for me, and swiming, forget it....so i dont know what to do. i cant expect a miraculously fabulous *** overnight, but i know theres somethig i could do to make it the way i like it and not giving it up by the third day.

I have been told by a fair few people that I have a nice bum and that it is one of my best features. But my boyf won't tell me what makes it a nice one. What do you think makes a nice butt?

this is a nice butt i think

a toned butt is always a nice butt! a lot people don't seem to realise that there's so much you can do to make your booty bootylicious, like exercising, eating healthy ect.

everyone's got a different body shape that you should also take into consideration

have to agree with you about the excercise, adorefaith, it is better for the thighs than for your butt, but since this is an easy exercise you can do practically everywhere I though't I'd post it anyway :flower:

Deborah, my friend (he's male) and I just had a talk about that:lol:- he said he liked it (his choice of words) apple-shaped, round and firm.
Why doesn't your friend tell you what he thinks?

My boyfriend won't tell me because he says I will get obsessed with keeping it that way!
