The City

^ Yup- it's entertaining, although completely unrealistic regarding their 'jobs' and 'work'- you'd be fired on the first day if you were that clueless, lazy and difficult to deal with! There are always ten people waiting to take your job...;)
I watch for the babeage- and one of our model members was involved in one of the castings with Kelly- I was so thrilled to see it!!

Umm....I probably shouldn't say- I think she was not happy because her agency blew it- something about an extra fee for being on the TV show or some such nonsense; they weren't getting paid extra so they wouldn't let her do it... Welcome to the real world of modeling... :(

that s very true. in the real world olivia would ve been out the door long ago

I'm starting to think a lot of it is scripted- more than they say...Case in point: the two shots, where they show the people talking and the other people reacting and then go to a shot of the room, and then someone gets up and walks into the other room; you never see the other cameraman or people moving around- how could they be filming it so seamlessly if it wasn't set up beforehand? I don't see how half of what happens could be real or spur of the moment...

And the penny drops.

It's all rehearsed, all reenacted, all set-up.

Olivia does not work for Elle.
Roxy and Whitney do not work for People's Rev.
And Olivia and Whitney never worked for Diane Von Furstenberg.

Amen...Having grown up in and around NY and in the industry, I sometimes feel sorry for some poor kid out in Ohio or wherever who thinks "I'm going to go to NY and live like that!" :woot: The odds of finding jobs like theirs, especially in the beginning, without spending four years in the mail room, are pretty slim, unless you have big time connections, like being a Trump or a Bloomberg. And with studio apartments that are not rat infested, if you can get one, going for thousands of dollars a month, the mail room salary is not going to get you very far. And forget the great clothes and nights out in the happening clubs- unless Daddy and/or a rich boyfriend are financing things, none of that will be possible either... I just think the completely unrealistic picture they present is so misleading.... :(

hahaa... i think you've killed some girly-dreams with that

I think a dose of reality would help the show. I'm guessing Olivia didn't want to support Whitney because she's read the horrible things Whitney has said about her in various interviews. Of course on the show Olivia can't address the issue so it looks like she's just hating on Whitney for no reason.

I do think Whitney's collection is pretty. I do however think that she has a lot of help from professionals. I mean, how do we know she has designed these clothes herself, she may have had the designs in her head and got someone to illustrate them. In the last episode she had a pattern maker to make and cut the pattern and then someone to make the clothes, we also saw her picking out fabric. I think MTV has financially backed the label and she has a fantasic PR company in Peoples Revolution representing her. It just goes to prove that it's who you know most of the time. When Whitney is at Peoples Revolution she never does any work except gossip and move a mouse around the desk, that is why I think she does not work there. At the end of the day Kelly is a very shrude PR woman and what better way to promote her business & her clients than agreeing to be filmed for MTV.

As far as Olivia goes, I love her and her style but she is not listed and never has been on the contributors page of US Elle, if she worked there she would be on the list.

actually, very few designers cut their own patterns. even as a new designer if u have a pattern maker then obviously they ll be the ones doing the pattern, if u can afford it.
i don t know if u know this but making a pattern takes a lot of time and when u re preparing for a show...having someone do it is no big deal.
same thing goes for a seamstress.
it s all about whether as a young designer u can afford it or not. if u can delegate some work to people who s specialty it is to do it then go for it.
obviously they ll be working from a sketch that u created as well as technical drawing which gives specific measurements... but u re the one who came up with the design and u choose the fabric. everything else someone else can do

doesn t make u less of a designer

I believe that the reaction shots and empty spaces are editing. But, they have been doing it since Laguna. Its kind of a signature move, I think.

^ To some extent I'm sure- but old downtown NY buildings like People's Revolution are tiny, and you could never edit dozens of shots enough to cut out all the camers and mike booms and so on...
