The Etc Etc of Perfumes & Fragrances

One of my mothers friend gave me Dior's Dune for christmas. But i found it too much "womanish" for myself. Kind of old, if you know what i mean.

What do you guys think? Im just 21 years old. =/

Yeh its kinda mature I think too. Reminds me of the classic Shalimar. Maybe for a special event when you want to feel totally sophisticated ..?

^ Comme des Garçons Peppermint might be nice for a 19 y/o guy! I love it in summer - its so refreshing! Not a candycane peppermint tho...its more a garden mint and herbal thing. Nice and androgynous, not parfumy or cologne-ish. Very subtle and unobtrusive. Office-worthy.

And yes! I have ordered samples and decants from tPC with great results.

Thanks, im going to try this one! another perfume suggestion? I wanna try another perfume that doesn't smell like mint too, but still smell young and fresh.

"Young and fresh"? Gosh I can think of hundreds, but what notes do you like? ThePerfumedCourt has a nice grouping of frags according to notes that might help you narrow it down to a couple dozen ;)------>http://theperfumedcourt.com/Categories/Perfumes-by-Notes.aspx

I've no idea if it's the right thread to ask, but anyway...

Did any of you ever ordered a sample from The Perfumed Court?

I have a few times without any troubles. If you order more than one sample be aware that they might not come together in the one parcel, as I believe there are 3 women that work together to run the site and they all live in different parts of the US.

question- is it ok for a friend to steal another friend's scent?

it drives me up the wall when a friend/in this specific case a best friend asks me what perfume I am wearing, and then goes out and buys/wears the exact same one around me!!

ps current obsession: quercus by penhaligon's

Well they say: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but in this case its a bit too creepy and personal I think. When there are like 100,000,000 possible choices out there, why copy another's choice. Besides, frags smell diff on diff ppl I think.

does anyone have a suggestion for a perfume that smells purely like jasmine? All the ones I've tried have smelled so cheap and artificial. I heard Fresh made a good one that was discontinued, and I've read good things about the Jo Malone one . . . but I would love some input from people who know more about scents than I do (namely, everyone!)

^ Serge Lutens A La Nuit is the most straightforward jasmine fragrance I know. It does not smell cheap (and it isn't).

Try Anais Anais by Cacharel

It's totally unacceptable IMO

I got Miss Dior Cherie! It smells really nice, but it was really expensive for such a small bottle. I wish it lasted longer, too.

Agree! It soo overpriced because it doesn't last long :(

Has somebody tasted Shisheido ZEN for woman?? :flower:

Lolita Lempicka

Does anyone wear this perfume? I just got it and LOVE it. The bottle is so pretty and feminine.

I've been watching the series 'Perfume' on BBC4. It is a real insight in to a fascinating subject. There is so much more to perfumery than I ever thought possible.

Dior is starting to do all their fragrances in house now, therefore a lot of the classics will get reformulated.

which, in most cases means, dumbed down, watered down, cheapened, with the original ingredients being replaced by cheaper ones.

fragrances in questions:

Fahrenheit (!!!!!)
Dior Homme
Miss Dior Cherie

Miss Dior Cherie will also be renamed 'Miss Dior', with the old 'Miss Dior' being renamed 'Original'.

this d!ck move is horribly offensive and rude from LVMH cause basically what they do this way is take other perfumer's work, change it a bit and then sell it as their own, this way effectively cutting off the original perfumer.
