I have to say that it is so incredible to look at this list and the women who are ranked. It's also incredible to think that both Lara Stone and Joan Smalls can still be in the top 10 after all these years in the industry. Joan especially. This girl needs to write a book on how models of color should do it.
Unfortunately, I don't think that any of the girls in the top 10 have what it takes to stand the test of time. A few seasons ago, it was all about Lexi Boling and Binx Walton. They're both already sliding into irrelevance. I had hopes for Julia Bergshoeff and Vanessa Axente, but where are they now??
Once we move past the social media thing - and we will, because there is incredible push-back happening from within the industry - Bella Hadid will be a distant memory. There's something about Gigi, which makes me think she will last a bit longer, but she too won't go the length.
All the other girls, including Anna Ewers will drop after a couple more season. They all look the same with the same features and therefore, replaceable. Natalie W, cute, but won't last either.
Agents need to focus more on brand building and less on hype and social media. Also, for the love of God, they need to stop accepting every. single. job that is offered to a model. There hasn't been a girl that selectivity didn't work for... other than maybe, Zuzanna Bijoch. Once a model becomes ubiquitous, no one wants to work with her. Balance the campaign work with a heavy, steady mix of editorial and she'll be good to go.
Also, special shout out to Mariacarla Boscono. I don't know how she's been able to do it. Personally, she's not my cup of tea, but major respect to her and her agents for what they've been able to accomplish.
The other girl who needs special shout out to, is Jamie Bochert. She's not ranked on the list and I don't beieve she will ever have the kind of season that will put her on, but there's no denying that that chick is a legend!
Oh, and I have the feeling the Julia Nobis will have the type of career that Jamie Bochert has. She will be around for a very, very long time.
