Currently watching Little Children! I'll report back afterward!

nine was wicked! i just saw shutter island, which was amazing. so im suggesting everyone to see it

I've seen several Frederick Wiseman DVDs in recent months. Many people consider him the greatest American documentary filmmaker.
.
I'm sure everyone here would enjoy Model and probably The Store as well.
Wiseman's new project called La Danse profiles The Paris Opera Ballet. I'm hoping to see it soon.

Has anyone seen A Matter of Life and Death from 1946 starring David Niven and directed/written by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger?

I just saw it'll be out on dvd later this month in Denmark.

just finished watching A Serious Man by the coen brothers. not a personal favourite of mine... not the kind of film that leaves me with a lasting impression or a lot of emotion, but still one of those films you can appreciate from a film making perspective...

worth seeing, i think....a smart film... but cold, in a way.

I very much DISLIKED this film. It was utterly boring to me. I am usually very attracted to independent films and films with a lot of meaning, which usually aren't big-budget... but this film fell 100% flat to me... ugh. I stopped watching it 100% an hour in, and grabbed a magazine just to finish it. My fiance, who is a screenwriter, thought it was a pretty terrible film, too - and he's a Coen Brothers fan.

i'm usually a fan of the coen brothers as well and a serious man was pretty unwatchable for me...

i couldn't tell if it was just because i was distracted by other things at the time, but i can't help but think that if i were enjoying the movie i would have been able to maintain at least a little of my focus

really didn't like it :ermm:

i feel the same way about Crazy Heart.it was unwatchable and very very predictable.

I watched Franklyn a few weeks ago and I did not like that.. There were several question marks stacked on my head at the end; though I love Eva Green and I liked the idea of killing herself repeatedly for artwork, it was just one of those films which brings the question i keep asking when I see films like that - Aren't films supposed to be entertaining?

I thought it was a beautiful film. Throughout the film I was quite lost, and early on (particulary in the Meanwhile city parts) had to push my self to keep going, but once most of the loose ends came together, I felt that it was completely worth it. I guess it's a film that really depends on how you choose to interpret it... and there's some connections and references I'm sure I missed, so even a film that needs to be seen twice (I know you're shaking your head ).

Not at all, I couldn't stand that movie. It was shot beautifully but other than that, I really didn't like it.

I havent seen it yet but try reading the book. I thought it was great! Maybe it just seemed pretentious because its romanced and you only get an outside look on the character. The book is by the journalist that wrote on his death and he tried to understand the psychology of chris.

also a serious man. Didnt finish it yet because my computer bugged out on me but i dont understand the relation between the beginning and the rest. Ill have the watch it till the end i guess to get it.

Does anyone have any film suggestions?....for some reason lately i don't seem to have much of a list of Must See's... would love some recommendations

^ Chungking Express (changed my life!) or Happy Together by Wong Kar Wai. Ok really anything by Wong Kar Wai. Flipping brilliant film maker.

Well it depends on what you're looking for  i have big lists but they have a lot of different things.
What i can recommand because i liked them is citizen kane, godfather, fantastic mr fox, i love you man, bonnie and clyde, superbad, paper hearts... (i have lots more if you want ^_^)

Thanks guys...please keep them coming!

I've seen citizen kane (back in university film class)...didn't love it..:ninja:
The Godfather was great..

i've heard good things about fantastic mr fox...maybe i should watch it..

It's hard to say what kind of films i like...i don't know if my taste is very consistent.. but i don't really like slapstick comedy.. and i'm not really into sci-fi, fantasy etc.. i usually like movies that are intelligent and thoughtful... whatever that means!.. i like woody allen's films quite a lot..:innocent:

some films i like..

the sea inside..
an education..
lemon tree..
paris..
vicky cristina barcelona..
the diving bell and the butterfly..
the lives of others..
life is beautiful..
i've loved you so long..
the visitor..

I don't know if that helps at all! :P

Yes yes yes! It was Chungking and especially Fallen Angels for me.

I would suggest YiYi by Edward Yang, a really sensitive and beautifully filmed story about a Taiwanese family. One of the best movies of last decade. Definitely thoughtful and intelligent.
