I am Love was a wonderful Italian melodrama.:heart: Especially because of the coherent wardrobe by Raf Simons for Tilda's character and the emotional music.
 
I watched Angels and Demons last night and I have to say I am not a fan. It had an odd twist at the end (which I wont spoil for anyone who hasn't watched the movie) but I just didn't get it all. Quite hard to follow and a bit gory and some parts but not a fan. What does everyone else think who was watched it?

Also, watched The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pitt in and I hated it. I had to turn it off because myself and my mum just didn't understand it. Quite a hard plot to follow and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, quite upset because I usually like Brad's movies but this one was appalling.

I really want to see this ! It's not out here yet though

The last film I saw was Salt, which I loved (Angelina Jolie :heart:) and before that Inception, which I thought was just okay, but my boyfriend thought it was amazing and one of the best films he saw in the past years. Marion Cotillard was great in it though..

We also rented Happines and Before Sunrise today.. Has anybody seen these? What did you think?

Before Sunrise is lovely, a different kind of romantic movie, with the whole movie being primarly a conversation between the two main characters.

Speaking of conversation I wanna give a shout-out to Conversations with other women starring Aaron Eckhart and Helena Bonham Carter, if you enjoyed Before Sunrise there's a chance you might enjoy this as well.
 
lately i've been into films again
i am love - loved all the food p*rn! That scene with Tilda eating prawns will be a classic! ;)
An education - 1960s, young girl, coming of an age.. im such a sucker for these themes. absolutely loved that film!
Sedmikrasky (daisies) - made in 1966 in Chekoslovakia, but feels fresh after 50 years. i feel lucky to have seen that film!! Fun & anarchist, sugarcoated with two charming girls gone bad, it has a deeper side as well.
Plus it has the best dedication ever: This film is dedicated to all those who are horrified only by the sight of stomped-on lettuce. a must see!
Antichrist - intense! from the rational to the complete opposite. a very intriguing film.

and now, going to rewatch some Fellini ;)

Doubt was very interesting. It's all about when two nun's find out that the priest has been fiddling with boy's and they try and prove it but there isn't really any proof but one of the nun's got him sent away but by accident got him a promotion. It didn't seem that long to me and not much really happened, but was okay. I would give it a 3/5 because Meryl Streep was really good in it but it was a very gloomy film.
 
i have been sick and watched tons of movies...

for example:

JENNIFER´S BODY

it is actually pretty good for that kind of movie.
i liked it and cast was good for their roles.
there were few cheesy scenes but i liked it twisted humor and there were good lines.


NEW YORK, I :heart: YOU

boring.


I :heart: YOU PHILIP MORRIS

i liked it a lot. Ewan is allways great! and Jim was not so annoying as he usually is.

I've really wanted to see Sedmikrasky! I'm glad you thought it was a good movie :)
 
Fellini!!! It's so hard to find his films here..Woody Allen, Ken Loach, Almodovar, very rare as well...just completed my Wes Anderson collection, going to start with Bottle Rocket soon^_^Currently looking for more Meryl Streep movies, so far I have Kramer vs Kramer, Deer Hunter, Devil Wears Prada, Bridges of Madison County, Mamma Mia, Prime, Julie & Julia (:heart:), Doubt and It's Complicated, no Sophie's Choice:(

I love An Education so much I bought the screenplay:lol:just bought I am Love, very excited..I wanna watch Antichrist but I just don't have the guts, Un Prophete too, if it's too gruesome I'm gonna have nightmares:ninja:

Has anyone seen You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger yet? Is it good? Looking forward to Another Year by Mike Leigh, I :heart: Happy-Go-Lucky, especially the flamenco scene..

P.S. I never really understood The Seventh Seal, too cerebral perhaps?
 
You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger....i have seen it...i'm a huge Woody fan (older Woody, when he was still starring in his own films) so i will see anything he ever makes.. but i have to say i was completely underwhelmed. i haven't liked much of anything he's done recently...except vicky cristina, which i loved mainly because javier and penelope were so damn good together. :heart: his films aren't the same since he stopped filming in new york. i just don't think his wit and darkness fit in england, which is where this one is set.. and the casting really didn't do it for me. naomi watts cannot do woody allen style neuroses...it just doesn't work....a bad fit, imo, and it's nothing against naomi or any of the actors. antonio banderas was the only one who came close to tapping in to woody's genius mix of humour and tragedy, imo. there were a few good lines...but honestly, i'd rather watch and re-watch manhattan and annie hall and hannah and her sisters etc....all the good oldies.. that was him at his best.

also saw the new mike leigh film Another Year.. i hated happy go lucky....found it painful to watch.. this was painful too, but in a much better way. a meditation on loneliness....the choices we make....parts were painfully funny, the kind of tragic funny where you feel bad for laughing because it's all so pathetic and plays so deeply on all of our fears of loneliness, heartache, etc. this one is worth watching imo. i am not particularly a fan of mike leigh but i think he's a great filmmaker....you squirm and cringe and feel hollow in what i think is exactly the way he wants you to....and you leave feeling that you've really experienced the film that he set out to make.
 
Ooh, yeah Vicky Cristina Barcelona is good..I've searched Manhattan and Annie Hall for a long long time, although I did saw a boxset of all his films, the price was scary:shock:There's been a lot of buzz about Javier in Biutiful, is it released yet?

I've read somewhere that Happy-Go-Lucky is a departure from some of the bleaker films he's made in the past, I've never seen any other of his films..I think someone in this thread mentioned Naked..thank you so much for the reviews!:flower:I think I'm gonna watch both, can't say no to Woody:lol:

Btw, are you familiar with Yasmin Ahmad's work? She had a retrospective at MoMA this year..

I will see Biutiful as soon as I can find a way to! imdb lists the release date as Oct 20 for France only. not sure about anywhere else. haven't heard anything about a release date for Canada, which is where i am at the moment. i will see just about anything Javier is in. ^_^

yes I think happy go lucky was quite a departure for him in some ways, though there is still a lot of consistency there, a lot of connectedness to his other work, and to Another Year even. my partner is a pretty big Mike Leigh fan and i commented halfway through the film that the main character in another year felt to me like a grown up version of the girl in happy go lucky, and he agreed completely. Another Year is less manic, less joyful in some ways, but i think he is playing with many of the same ideas....just within a different context and in an older generation.
 
^ Oh Manhattan and Annie Hall are amazing films. I preferred Annie Hall out of the two, the lobster scene is hilarious! And yeh Woody's new stuff just pales in comparison. Did you see Scoop? The less said about that film the better..
 
Into the Wild should be on everyones bucket list. i cried so hard at the end.
