The How Do I Get This Look? Thread

For the shimmery skin, Hyper Real that was mentioned is good or Mac Strobe Cream or Prescriptives Magic Potion mixed with your foundation.
MAC strobe cream is fab. it really improves skin tone & makes you look radiant. :flower:

my favourite highlighting product is YSL Teint Parfait(Complexion Enchancer), they come in about 6 different color correcting/enchancing shades and I have #2 Rose Perle and #3 Champagne

they are oil free and the shimmer is sooo fine and it leaves a really soft and subtle glow to skin.. much nicer than Armani FS i think because the shimmer particles in FS are too big

as for a dewy foundation, I like Chanel Vitalumiere Fluidewhich leaves a soft satin finish

here's a pic of Teint Parfait #3

MAC Cream Colour Base in Luna will give you that shimmer/healthy glow. Also, I love Prescriptives Sheen Cream in Beam.

First of all, use some concealer and powder to start.
Then outline the eyes with some brown eye pencil and blend with a brush. Try to recreate the shape that you see in the picture. You have to blen after because you son´t want it to become to heavy.

Then, use a brush (a flat one) with some brown eye shadow. You can choose one with a bit of shimmer so it doesn´t look to chalky.
Dip the brush in the eyeshadow and then pat so that it drops that extra powder than can stain the face if it drops.
To avoid the shadow to stain, you can also pad some loose face powder on the apples of the cheeks.

Then, after outling again with the shapest part of the brush, put the brush on the crease and blend blend blend!
Using Q tips, smudge to get that softer look that goes until the eyebrow that you see in the pick.
You can give a deeper look by, in the end, lining the inside rim of the eye. Just be careful, because this look can be a bit heavy if your eyes, are small or very deep.

Hope this helps!

Cardinal rules :
Use great brushes
A tinny brush is best for blending
Add a tinny amount of shadow..its easier to build up than to remove too much.

Thanks! When you say the crease, do you mean the inner corners of my eye?

The best way imo to learn how to apply "smokey eyes" is to go to a professional make up artist. (thats how I learned + practice, practice, practice) ..MAC has a lot of them working..ask them for an appointment, so they can teach you.
It doesn't cost a fortune, and more than likely you'll find that you are lacking a good brush or eyeshadow, to replica the procedure at home..and the price of the products you buy will be deducted from the price of the session.

Oh Good Lord! That last thing I need is encouragement to spend more time at the MAC counter!

Ahh. Yes.
And I totally get what you know about the sales assistant! Sometimes I get so embarrassed I try to hide from the ones I saw the last time I was there!

OMG I did the same thing :ninja: ..I think I've reached my make-up quota for a while now..so maybe they'll forget me.
