this. i totally imagined it this way - minimalistic grey. When I read the book, I thought the reaping took place in a dilapidated town square.
With the the buildings and shops all a greyish color from the coal ash and a cobble-stoned street.
Just a very cold, ashy looking place.
I didn't picture a green, spacious country town like this.
Maybe most of the "gray" will be added in during post-production with effects.
And Prim looks so small. I thought she was taller. I'm liking the look of Gale though.

Finally, the nation of Panem has its President Snow – Donald Sutherland has just been announced to be playing the role in The Hunger Games!
President Snow has been the autocratic ruler of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years at the outset of the story. He is cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics.
SUTHERLAND, star of such iconic films as M*A*S*H, Ordinary People , Klute and Kelly’s Heroes, will next be seen in this summer’s comedy, Horrible Bosses and recently starred in The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster, The Eagle with Channing Tatum and the highly-successful long form adaptation of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.
From Deadline:
Lionsgate executives told Wall Street analysts this morning to expect big things from The Hunger Games, a series of four action films that the studio will release from the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. COO Joe Drake said it was “the highest selling film we’ve ever had” at the Cannes Film Festival and that overseas exhibitors consider it “the movie that can change their company.” Although Lionsgate wouldn’t disclose its budget for the films, Drake says Hunger Games could become an “outsized success” for Lionsgate. The studio says it bought the rights before the books became runaway best-sellers, and it has “retained the majority of the upside” in its talent and distribution deals.
Elfman and Burnett will be collaborating on the film score, with Burnett also serving as the film’s Executive Music Producer, producing songs for the film and soundtrack.
Said Lionsgate’s Head of Film Music Tracy McKnight of the musical dream team assembled on behalf of the film, “THE HUNGER GAMES is such a special property – it has worldwide mass appeal, but it’s also sophisticated, cerebral, soulful, and rebellious. We needed a composer who can translate these qualities musically, and we have not one but two incredible artists in an absolutely thrilling first time ever collaboration.”
Production president Alli Shearmur is overseeing the production for the studio, and the deals for both artists were negotiated by McKnight with Lenny Wohl, EVP Business Affairs Music & Publishing, on behalf of Lionsgate.
Danny Elfman and T-Bone Burnett will be scoring the Hunger Games film!
