The Hunger Games Thread

for whatever reason i always had this cold - minimalistic - very modern image of that period, this looks just like the middle of 20th century, no? not quite what i imagined, either.

About them looking starved, I thought someone already explained that Katniss and Gale don´t look like that cause they hunt so they always have food... and boobs don´t necessarily decrease in size cause you´re thin LOL

About the outfits, they´re exactly as I pictured them, plain and boring. Like clothes people wore in WWII.

well i always imagine my own versions of characters in my head and don't really take every little detail from the books (i usually forget about them:ninja:) i picture them more from the actions and movements or how they're described in some scenes, something that is repeatedly mentioned. in my mind Katniss was this skinny, wiry, sporty, agile girl. her strength comes from within, she's smart and not afraid, that's why the other tributes had respect of her, not because of her build.
and i'm not sure if she was described like that in the book but i imagined her a little boyish, small boobs, and no big hips

Jennifer looks like she sits around all day and eats cake (not that she's thick or anything) but not like she goes hunting every day. and just because you have something to eat every day doesn't mean you're not skinny, especially when you have to go out and hunt for it.

her body is great, just not in any way how i imagined Katniss to be.

When I read the book, I thought the reaping took place in a dilapidated town square.
With the the buildings and shops all a greyish color from the coal ash and a cobble-stoned street.

Just a very cold, ashy looking place.
I didn't picture a green, spacious country town like this.

Maybe most of the "gray" will be added in during post-production with effects.

And Prim looks so small. I thought she was taller. I'm liking the look of Gale though.

Lionsgate's official Twitter just announced the casting of two members of Katniss Everdeen's prep team. Welcome Nelson Ascencio as Flavius and Kimiko Gelman as Venia!

With Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Latarsha Rose as Portia, and Brooke Bundy as Octavia, this completes our team of stylists!

Finally, the nation of Panem has its President Snow – Donald Sutherland has just been announced to be playing the role in The Hunger Games!
President Snow has been the autocratic ruler of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years at the outset of the story. He is cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics.
SUTHERLAND, star of such iconic films as M*A*S*H, Ordinary People , Klute and Kelly’s Heroes, will next be seen in this summer’s comedy, Horrible Bosses and recently starred in The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster, The Eagle with Channing Tatum and the highly-successful long form adaptation of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.

I was convinced that Jennifer Lawrence will be good as Katniss. But those clothes and bts photos doesn't help much. And I don't even wanna talk about Gale and Peeta. :( Although I love that man as President Snow. He is just as I imagined.

it's looking not too bad, I don't mind the costumes and 50s look, I could see it working, a nice contrast to a futuristic Capital

There couldn't be a more perfect Snow than Sutherland. Funny how I like almost all of the supporting cast, but couldn't care less about the leads.

Apparently, The Hunger Games is planning on following in the footsteps of Harry Potter and The Hobbit and will be making the last film (The Mockingjay) into a two-part film, which means there will be 4 films in the series:

From Deadline:

Lionsgate executives told Wall Street analysts this morning to expect big things from The Hunger Games, a series of four action films that the studio will release from the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. COO Joe Drake said it was “the highest selling film we’ve ever had” at the Cannes Film Festival and that overseas exhibitors consider it “the movie that can change their company.” Although Lionsgate wouldn’t disclose its budget for the films, Drake says Hunger Games could become an “outsized success” for Lionsgate. The studio says it bought the rights before the books became runaway best-sellers, and it has “retained the majority of the upside” in its talent and distribution deals.

Pictures of Josh Hutcherson finally on the set of The Hunger Games:
I don't think he's in character in these pictures. Also pictured is Elizabeth Banks as Effie.

i'm gald, the more lenght on the screen the more accurate to the books they may be. The story is good , and if they manage it good , it can be a great commercial success.

Josh has grown so much  I remember him as a little child. Well, I must admit, maybe he doesn't look THAT bad as Peeta. Not the best choice, but maybe he can work it out.

^I know! It seems just yesterday I was watching him in Bridge To Terebithia.
But he looks a lot taller in these pics, so that should please the fans who were worried he was too short.

Danny Elfman and T-Bone Burnett will be scoring the Hunger Games film! :D

Elfman and Burnett will be collaborating on the film score, with Burnett also serving as the film’s Executive Music Producer, producing songs for the film and soundtrack.

Said Lionsgate’s Head of Film Music Tracy McKnight of the musical dream team assembled on behalf of the film, “THE HUNGER GAMES is such a special property – it has worldwide mass appeal, but it’s also sophisticated, cerebral, soulful, and rebellious. We needed a composer who can translate these qualities musically, and we have not one but two incredible artists in an absolutely thrilling first time ever collaboration.”

Production president Alli Shearmur is overseeing the production for the studio, and the deals for both artists were negotiated by McKnight with Lenny Wohl, EVP Business Affairs Music & Publishing, on behalf of Lionsgate.

I'd never heard of The Hunger Games before until I saw it attached to Jennifer Lawrence in a news headline. Now I'm reading the book and so far, it's so hard to put down.^_^ Can't wait to see the movie!

^thanks!
I like it, even without the animation it makes a cool teaser poster... nice tagline :)
