Yay Catherine! I like your synopsis, Scott. I'm particularly impressed by the fact that she's able to incorporate goth influences in her work - even the clichés - without devolving into tackiness, and while maintining a strong identity. I particularly love her accessories, very inventive and romantic...here's a closer look at that felt ribcage-piece.

G+N: Gerritt Uittenbogaard + Natasja Martens, a Dutch couple working out of Arnhem. They started out in the late 90s and are still working but have been pretty quiet for the last few years (I think they had a lot of difficulties with sales recently). Their website has also lain dormant for a while now, so there are no current pics, but it's still worth a visit...and afaik the little e-shop is functional: www.fashionfugitive.com

droogist,I so agree. I think those aspects are exactly what I found interesting when I discovered her on Disciple's coverage. Of course,learning from MMM,you tend to learn how to execute things in a different and unpredictable manner. I've never been one myself for the clichés of Goth but she executes the influences rather brilliantly.

the wouned-medical theme has been around for ages in Paris,
pure product of the Parisian student scene since at least three years now..
of course she's working on it, in a real inspired vein but still, it seems so 'done' and graduate class to me, i simply cant go 'wow'

Well,Catherine's taken a slightly different direction in the last couple years since I first saw her wrapping those clamps round the legs of her models....by injecting that sweetness I mentioned by doing these 50's-style dresses and floral patterns. I mean,it was really heavy beforehand...now there's a slight whimsy in the work now. Her style is still progessing,though.

There's a jewellery label from Singapore that i really like. It's called Argentum and the designer was trained at Central St Martins. Pieces are mainly done in oxidized silver with a battered and raw finish. She also accepts commissions for wedding rings It's been around for quite a few years and it's not too expensive. Currently, it's only stocked in Singapore and Sydney.

there's a brand called universal utility by caryn mansfield. sold in dover street market. i checked with a staff...he said the brand is based in london but designer is from south africa, and that's where the stuff is made. she usually makes for the japanese market only, but has been picked up by dover street. anyone knows more about the brand? i really like it!
