The Only Source For Indie

Hey guys, I am going to start a forum on my new website next week, but in the meantime tell me what you think. We launch the site next week, so you can take a sneak peak this week, just register and comment and mention you are from TFS so we can make you a VIP member. We are going to be the only source for true daily gloabl indie coverage, as oppose to FashionIndie who I have no idea what they are doing with that site now. I do love refinery29.com though!

Later:p

Indie Designers

Ok so there are many qualms about what makes a real indie designer, (which I plan to answer in my mega article coing next week on my website) but in the meantime, if you think you know who these infamous sub-industry leaders are, lets start a discussion on our faves and what they are up to now. Let's each say what we like about indie and what it means. Seems like allot of them are gettin bought out now anyway, so there is an urgent need for newcomers.

Indie- Avant-garde producer of luxury goods whose business structure is not supported by conglomerate financiers

i've always thought that indie means independent...and that indie designers are those that open up stalls at flea markets or craft fairs, producing limited products in a cottage setting.

^yes, it means independent. i think those who sell in flea markets are crafters or people who make clothes as a side job/hobby or students. indie fashion can go very high end as well.

even a famous designer like Ann Demuelemeester is an indie designer because she did not reply on mainstream coporations like LVMH or the Gucci group or any other enterprise to support her finacially, she started her own company.

generally indie designers are associated with avant garde which isnt always the case because alot of them are very ready to wear in a sense it's not typical.
the fact that they dont get enough exposure is quite a shame. but there is a pretty good book out by Daab on young european designers whom im guessing are all indie designers.

wow...tt's interesting. it's pretty tough being a successful indie designer then- to hv to worry about finance matters and designs..tt's pretty crazy..

Indie designers are a lot like indie music, you really gotta search hard and keep your ear to the pavement, before you come across a cool new designer or a hot new brand, agree or disagree.

Layers Boutique

So it's been a couple months since I last posted because I've been busy helping a friend Trudy Miller with her boutique:heart: http://www.myspace.com/layersbrooklyn

A former architecture student, her designs are innovative, playful and multi-purpose. Not unlike, Issey Miyake - but much more affordable - her clothes are designed with the wearer's lifestyle in mind. Specifically, they're ideal for the urban traveler, since each garment converts in several different ways depending on climate, occasion etc. Eventually, she'll expand the boutique's merchandise to include furniture design along the same concept.
