ah sorry delonge/gwod! I understand being in a tight space - my flat is teeny tiny. It looks great - I'm sure it'll turn out fantastic!

oh i gotta tell you one interesting thing about that..im a student of anthropology and we used to have a course on what influence culture has on architecture, interior decoration, furniture arrangements etc..and a fellow student of mine came up with a theory that the way you arrange your furniture etc is actually based on cultural-specific factors.. this is especially the case in open-plan offices, schools etc.. and i think its also a matter of the environment, i myself wouldnt like to have my back turned towards the door in my office either :p but for my study room its ok..

i think its also a strategy of stopping yourself from being distracted by other things in the room.. during exam preparation my room mate used to study in our bathroom, because, as he said, there was nothing to keep him from staring into his books ^_^

:lol:haha that's smart.. I'm going to try that when I have a hard time focusing

you guys are talking about "feng shui" :)

One of the suggestions is also that your back isn't to the door
Some sort of negative energy...

For myself, I have my back to the door but my body/face is towards the window ,sunlight.

yea i also have my desk towards the window.. gives you a lot of positive energy and fresh air, especially in summer.. besides, you dont feel kind of 'isolated' when you have to study or work a lot.. but its definitely a problem when your room isnt that big and you dont really have the choice about where to put which piece of furniture

i hate having my back to the door when i'm seated too.

you guys might have seen this on apartment therapy? - but i just love this picture with tiffany blue accents.

ohh goodness I love that ^

Robin's egg blue is one of my favorite interior colors..

Does anyone know of any websites that have photos of rooms? I know there is the Selby but sometimes it feels like the profiles of the living spaces gets overshadowed by the personalities of the people.

^ i know what you mean about the selby. too many of the pics focus on things that are uninteresting to me (like someone's teddy bear or an old pair of shoes) rather than good interior decor. i would also love to find websites more focused on interior decor but still with cool, quirky style.

i would suggest http://freshome.com/
i dont know if its exactly what you guys are looking for, some pics still focus on particular items or pieces and some interior concepts are not really innovative, but many of the ideas are really cool..

love that pic from AT. I've been thinking more and more about trying to re-do my dad's house on cheap when i'm there place this summer. He's very very handy (ie has basically rebuilt his house from the interior) which means that if I want to change lighting fixtures/etc. he can do it.....because right now. Things are not so pretty. Which is shame because his home has beautiful bones.

i saw these colour arranged books on a blog an immediately thought of this thread!

aesthetically pleasing (a lovely little blog filled with pics of interiors, fashion and other beautiful miscellaneous things)

Btw there's an article in House Beautiful's color issue this month about custom paint color matching, and they also had the former creative director of Tiffany's pick the best match to the Tiffany's box available off the shelf. I believe it was Home Depot ... :innocent: If anyone's interested I can look it up.

fashionista-ta, that would be wonderful if it's not too tricky to find?

this colour and similar shades seems to be featured a lot lately in style blogs and mags. here's some more inspiration.

thank you claude! i love the tray in the second and the chair in the third picture.. so wonderul and unique

^ As I look at the article (duh!), the colors aren't off the shelf but are custom made to match the Tiffany box. The former creative director said Home Depot did the best job matching it. Lowe's was the runner-up.

xhommex please add the flicker account that the picture was take from :flower:
