I have a question about decorating my very small bedroom....would anyone mind if I posed my question here? I am completely at a loss in interior decorating...

thanks faust. Didn't want to head too off topic.

Anyway like I said I have a very very small room (single bed, small desk at the end of the bed, no room in between basically) and then a small shelving unit beside the desk. however I have quite high ceilings with a couple feet of moulding around the top of the wall(it's a victorian house).

Anyway I want to paint my room a slightly lighter shade of slate grey...because I simple adore the grey/white/plumy egglplant colorscheme. So I was thinking of painting the walls this color and then leaving the moulding and ceiling white and having white curtains/blinds with the plumy eggplant bedspread and sheets....I know painting my room a darker shade will make it look smaller but I'm hoping the white will bring enough lightness in. Any thoughts?

i think if you make it a very light shade of grey you should be fine. you are making me salivate with your high ceilings and moldings :woot:

haha it actually does have a very beautiful ceiling. unfortunately awful light fixture

I figured I could do a light shade of grey...I just want the richness of a slate grey...will have to research colors....

meg, a color that accents eggplant is any yellow based color. you could paint your walls grey with accents of gold, light yellow, taupe, and burnt yellow accessories. it would also brighten up your slightly monochromatic room..

so are you saying that for example, i could paint my walls a shade of a grey, have an eggplant bedspread, white curtains and light fixtures, but then throw in some yellow based pillows or throws ?

meg--be careful with the grey.............2 apartments ago I moved in and it was literally 3 shades of grey from the living room(lightest) to the bedroom(darkest). It was a top floor apartment with 4 skylights, granted the ceilings were a standard 8 ft, but vaulted on one side. When Winter came it was sooooooo depressing and cold. I hated it. Especially the bedroom, I would not want to get out of bed some mornings and I'm a morning person, I actually moved the bed into the living room because it was lighter.

That being said. I love the idea that you are after, just make sure that you go with a very "Soft"grey;) which I think can be very cool. I don't know about the gold/yellow thing, but that's just me. My thoughts would be more with silver accents....like the sequined shower curtain that luna has or at www.westelm.com even silver sequin pillows would be a nice touch..............does the room have large windows, because natural light is sooooo important when choosing a colour.

okay............never mind the westelm thing(I just went there), unless you saw older catalogues when they were using the same colour scheme.....nothing on the site is what I was envisioning.

btw--Luna--nice apt...........

..............moving in to my place this weekend, maybe I'll post pics when it's complete, which could be 6 months from now:lol:

oh wow! it really is ORANGE:woot:
